Great video! I was so proud of myself when I cook chicken or turkey and used the bone to make stock lol did I know that I could make bone meal. That makes me feel good knowing nothing is waisted now. I will definitely do this. Thank you!

As for making bone meal it's faster in a pressure canner, place bone in jars with water, finger lid cook in the pressure canner for 90 min. Let cool. Take a fork and break it part. Then place it in the dehydrator until dry. Place in a grinder makes powder.
Thank you! The pressure cooker does something to make the texture of the bones good for dehydrating. I've tried just regular cooking and dehydrating. The bone seemed too hard to grind.
Just bury the bones in your garden bed.
Most people don't own pressure canners. So it's not always practical.
@@oakmaiden2133That's ineffective for short term use. It takes months, even years for bones to break down & be useful that way.

You’ll enjoy this fertilizer so much. It’s significantly cheaper as an NPK fertilizer than commercialism brands for sure. And yes, making your own bone meal for folks like us who can and garden is another good value!

Can this make my potting soil more richer and a better foundation for the seeds? I just recently cut slice of tomato, then lay it flat on my my potting soil. Covered it a little bit of the same soil. Just did this today.
Do you then compost the alfalfa hay? Or can that be used as a mulch?
I recently canned chicken and beef stock. I remembered this video. I did save my bones AGAIN. First from collecting up, and second after making my broth. I tossed them in a freezer bag and there they sit till I have enough to fill my dehydrator. I will be using in my 2023 garden.
That's how you do it Amy! No sense in letting anything go to waste! Bones have so many uses it would be a shame to just toss them. I bet your broth was delicious!

These recipes remind me of Korean Natural Farming inputs like fermented plant juice (FPJ).

I have been using banana peel soaked in water for a week then watering my plants with it. Last year it attracted a lot of Ants so I stop doing it that way. I will try the dehydrating way.

Hi Cassandra, You mentioned a few times the need to use non-chlorinated water. What would happen if we used chlorinated water?
This is what I came to the comments for! Where do I get unchlorinated water? I have a Zero filter so I’m going to use that. Hopefully one day I’ll have land with a natural spring but the filter will have to do for now.
I believe the chlorine damages our plants. A container with chlorinated water uncovered for a day and the chlorine dissipates/evaporates. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
@@juniperwildflowers keep leftover water from boiled potatoes or other things. Let it cool and use that. It's also beneficial to your garden.
