Not before computers, Miss Vickie, but before AutoCAD. This is amazing what was accomplished. What will be more amazing is what will be accomplished sixty-years from now.
That surgeon is acting like a jerk-- flipping his scissors and clipping his nails while dealing with a man's life, pain, and deformity. No need for hand-wringing, but a degree of sober and thoughtful respect might have been nice so the patient feels he's worth the effort and not just some metaphorical piece of spinach the doctor has to pick out of his teeth-- in fact I'm surprised he wasn't picking his teeth. It demonstrates very well that extremely well-educated people can still be extremely stupid.
What a great episode!

WOW. Hand drawn diagrams as a guide. Computer generated must be much better.
Hope!

Climb off your soapbox!
Just acting ,not real, terrible script, with terrible actors, but a great show , showing the progress in medicine at this time.
