Hiya Nick, Another great video; thank you. I use a stepped mandrel in UK ring sizes and even mark the size on the split band to get a good-sized fit. The button, I love the planet/asteroid surface in your un-polished version. I use Argentium silver for an almost perfectly smooth surface with a minor cleanup. It forms an excellent surface with no chance of fire scale. Using all Argentium means you can fuse rather than solder, although you can now get the basic three types of solder in Argentium paste. I love your use of items like the clean nails to form on. Great size and durability at a meagre cost. Plus, using basic engineering practices to form the silver is worth emulating. You are only limited by your imagination with these designs; thank you. You can be sure I will be adding some to my shop in time. Stay safe, Steve...

It's such a simple technique but you gotta give it a try stleast 5x before you get the swing of how tight to hold the dowel or the copper. There's some fantastic teachers on here teaching us. Once it's done on a dowel you then you'll through a drawplate to tske it to mm you require and I gotta say even a 26ga drawn down to a 6mm looks absolutely incredible. And best bit you only need to weave about a inch which for me takes about 15mins and thsts enough for a bracelet! I use a 10mm dowel with 26ga copper wire. Hallo Nick, thank you very much for sharing this video. I like the use of the chop stick for fixing the square file, when you made the Chevronring. I have some questions... Which brand is your vice where you clambed the wooden dowel for sawing the ring? Did you made the dowel yourself or is there a premade thing that you can use? It seems it makes life easier, when sawing ringshanks😁. Sorry for my bad English. Have a good time and please keep on making tutorials👍. Greetings from Germany Maren
hi Maren thanks for your comment, my favourite little vice i use all the time was cheap and came from Lidl‘s … a German outlet I think … commonly called a multi angle vice. The broom handle dowel was easy to cut down in my wood turning lathe, however I’m sure the same effect could work with some sort of sander … all the best to you … N
thank u fort this video! i know this may sound stupid, but i’m new in this jewels world. i like more gold looking rings. What material can i use? i want something not expensive and that doesn’t leave any residues on my skin. do i have any recommendations?
Hi Duty, I would suggest looking into Gold keum-boo. it’s a simple home workshop technique where gold leaf is applied to silver giving a gold plated effect … obviously much cheaper than solid gold and can be applied in patches for different effects … have fun … N
hi Cheri, yes you definitely can in copper i’ve not done much with brass before. I made all these rings in copper first to try them out and get the sizes right. The only problem being silver solder joints show on copper. However the visible silver joints can be covered up with a basic copper plating technique … all the best … Nick
Hi Ryan, if you are going to buy some Silver strip to make rings with some basic tools you need are a jewellers saw, soldier and flux, A solid steel ring mandrel for reshaping and stretching, hammers and files and some way of polishing maybe a drill and buffing wheel and polishing compound … good luck with it … N
it is a bit tricky to size this ring as the wire stretches when giving it a hammered effect. My favourite technique is to test and practice with copper first, once you have a ring near the correct size made from copper you can cut sections out and rejoin the ring until you have a correct size. Now you have a ring that fits perfectly it can be cut open once more and straightened out to measure … hope this helps … Nick
@@Nickscreativestuff I made it using the same size wire as you did and god damn did it stretch! Id say about 100mm of wire would be enough for a size 10 finger
Even when testing with copper wire first it’s only ever an estimate as every time I hammer it out it can very slightly. I find ring making always a bit troublesome … not only having to get the design right also having to get the size sorted … N
hi Emma, that was a small piece of old broomstick that I had knocking around in my workshop. I cut and shaped the end down to size on my wood turning lathe however it could be done with a chisel and sander … N
I LOVE the music you choose to accompany these videos. It keeps me coming back.

thank you very much for sharing this video.
Greetings from Germany
Maren
hi Maren thanks for your comment, my favourite little vice i use all the time was cheap and came from Lidl‘s … a German outlet I think … commonly called a multi angle vice. The broom handle dowel was easy to cut down in my wood turning lathe, however I’m sure the same effect could work with some sort of sander … all the best to you … N
Thank you very much for your very soon answer...
I really like these, thanks for sharing! Can I ask what kind and gauge wire you use?
Thanks for that MaryLee, all three of these rings were made with 1.5mm silver wire… N
18 gauge?@@Nickscreativestuff
The nearest gauge to 1.5mm is 15 being 1.45mm … N
Super
thanks A … N
What kind of torch do you use? Enjoyed watching 😊
Thanks for that Christine, I mostly use a small refillable butane torch, convenient and easy to operate suitable for most jobs … N
thank u fort this video! i know this may sound stupid, but i’m new in this jewels world. i like more gold looking rings.
Love this video…simple…?
thanks for that Hedda, I try to keep things simple … N
Can you do same designs in copper or brass?
hi Cheri, yes you definitely can in copper i’ve not done much with brass before. I made all these rings in copper first to try them out and get the sizes right. The only problem being silver solder joints show on copper.
However the visible silver joints can be covered up with a basic copper plating technique … all the best … Nick
Ty Nick..love your creative ideas🙂
thanks for that Cheri … 👍😎👍 … N
Good helpful video! What gauge is the wire please? Looks like 1.6 mm (14 or 16 gauge) at a guess.
Hi Patricia thanks for that, it was all made with 1.5 mm sterling silver wire … N
Just found your video. Please, what gauge round wire are you using? or size round in mm?
Hi linda, they were all made with 1.5mm round wire … N
What tools do you recommend to get to make rings for a beginner?
Hi Ryan, if you are going to buy some Silver strip to make rings with some basic tools you need are a jewellers saw, soldier and flux, A solid steel ring mandrel for reshaping and stretching, hammers and files and some way of polishing maybe a drill and buffing wheel and polishing compound … good luck with it … N
How do you manage to work out the correct length for the first ring? given a ring size?
cut a strip of paper to your ring size's length, wrap the paper around your mandrel if you want, draw the design on, lay it flat, measure the lines.
Great idea bin bean, thanks for the suggestion … N
it is a bit tricky to size this ring as the wire stretches when giving it a hammered effect.
Which solder u use
I was using silver solder paste … N
Do you sell these or do you just make them for fun? What do you think they're worth
Hi Timothy, I just make stuff for the pleasure of it. if I was going to sell them they would be between £10 - £20 … N
So do I?I'm gonna watch you.I like your ideas
Thanks for that Timothy, nothing too serious all a bit of fun … N
Where do you buy the silver wire for ring
Hi RK, I buy silver wire from Cooksongold.com … N
Hi where you you get the piece of wood that you use to cut the ring to size? And what’s it called. Thank you.
hi Emma, that was a small piece of old broomstick that I had knocking around in my workshop. I cut and shaped the end down to size on my wood turning lathe however it could be done with a chisel and sander … N
