Listened to this at work during lunch. So good. Looked up "gentle and quiet" in the Greek and it's so cool. Gentle does mean meek and meek means possessing a strength that is brought under perfect control, much like a powerful horse can be trained to the bridle so as to be perfectly guided by the master. So the power of the horse goes from arbitrary kicking and running and jumping around (cute when they are young, not great as an adult) to a power that is appropriately directed, channeled, and focused on the purposes of the master. Quiet means steady and settled as a result of coming into contact with divine peace. So here is a functional translation of 1 Peter 3:4: "But let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a spirit that is strong, focused, mature, aligned with the purposes of the master, and has received and therefore now operates from the harmonious shalom of the Lord.
