  • Series of flights by legendary Dave Rees' award winning 24" rubber-powered free-flight Caudron C.460. Includes archival photos and footage. This model was built in 1982 by Dave, but had not flown since the early 90s. Dave's models were donated by the Rees family to many Flying Aces Club friends, with the intention of keeping them flying! This bird soars!! Miss you, Dave! The FAC can't thank you enough for all that you have given to the free-flight community. Photos and film by Tom Hallman & Pete Kaiteris. IG: @hallmanstudio Music: "In God's Hands" by David Nevue.
The Dave Rees plan for the Caudron C.460 is available for a fee via Carstens Publications and Flying Models Magazine. store.flying-m...

Thx, Harry. His family felt strongly that his models should be shared with friends, so a few of us gathered at one of his son's houses, and were given about 50 of his models, which we then passed along to other flying friends. Here's his Bellanca trimotor flying in Wawayanda. It flew well but landed in an unexpected patch of pumpkins, leading to some damage. I expect to fly her again after repairs. I'm sure that I can tame her flight pattern with a few tweaks. ruclips.net/video/NAE12Bhr99Q/видео.html

As a child/teen, I designed and built countless models of the C460 in everything from pistachio ff to pylon racing RC. I had a copy of the magazine you showed in the vid as well that I would reference at times, and many years later as an adult, one of my RC Caudrons even made it into a column in Flying Models. Still my favorite airplane and watching your beautiful Rees edition brings back so many good memories.

I still have the image of the perfect flight...we were kids in the late 60's...a launch from the top of the hill, and the airplane flew between the pine trees and turned gracefully passing just through the tree branches...it was like there was a tiny pilot flying her!

That is super impressive. I built a bunch of rubber powered free flight models as a kid and I think I got one to go 20' before packing it in hard. I was disappointed for sure. I would have been delighted with this model. Nice video. I guess Dave Rees is no longer with us. If so, RIP Dave. Very nice plane!

Beautiful video, and a good looking model. I enjoyed seeing "Flying Models" magazine. I remember that I always bought Flying Models, Model Airplane News, and R/C Modeler magazines. When I was younger and couldn't afford them, I was lucky that the local library (remember when they had libraries with books, magazines & newspapers in them?) carried both Flying Models & M.A.N. and I'd pull out several issues and just sit at a reading table and pour over the articles. Back then, you could ask a librarian to "photo copy" a particular page or article for you as well. Your videos always bring back some fond memories for me. Cheers!

Haha...we had a similar childhood. My Jr. High School library had M.A.N. on the racks, so I'd race for back issues or the latest every Tuesday at 10AM. I always knew what I'd be doing that time of each week...

Awesome video, brings me back to the old days with the Guillows builds with my dad; P51, “Mr. Mulligan” “Lancer” to name a few. The Mustang was a beast, flew decently, Mr Mulligan, well after its maiden flight ( if you could call it that) Mulligan was relegated to static display mode. The Lancer on the other hand, she was a flyer! Apparently 5 people found this video to their dislike, I dont get it.

It was marvelous, touching, inspiring, and heartfelt. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/ddrohk-80wE/видео.html I suspect if you could ask your fallen friends, they'd say fly fly fly! Remember as a kid in 60s going to the dime store and buying those balsa wood gliders 10 to 15 cents had a lot of fun with them once in a while would have enough money to buy the ones with propellers, landing wheels and a rubber band for power no where near the advanced model like the ones in video but as a kid was happy with what I got also when wind would pick up had to get a kite 15 cents always had to be the Jolly Rogers black kite with skull and cross bones printed on it.

2:41 & 2:55 and a few other times I see a Drone Congregation Area (DCA). It is a bunch of male honey bees that congregate in the exact same spot every day on nice weather days and they wait for a virgin queen bee to come there and mate. These DCAs are not very easy to find and extremely rare to stumble across them in a random youtube video. If you know any beekeepers, they may be interested in knowing about this DCA location.

Richard Darlington I sure do miss walking into a real hobby shop. The feeling you got when you walked through that door and saw big gas model planes hanging overhead, and the display cases with Tiger tanks, funny cars, space craft, fighter jets, tall ships, ww2 battle ships, etc. The smell of the balsa wood rack, clear dope, and glow fuel. Ocean liners and the Saturn 5. And when I was a kid, it was like a time machine/museum. If I had a couple of bucks, I could bring a piece of it home with me. Magic.

As do I, my friend. As do I.
But, things change. Things always change.
I'm just glad I can still remember things like penny candy, 5 cent ice cream cones, and of course, the local hobby shop.
I've been a model builder ever since I learned how to read. And, as long as I'm still alive, building flying models will survive.
      Always something on the board.
