  • Capybaras hate rain. All the capybaras rushed to shelter as the skies opened and a deluge ensued. Only Ryosuke braved the extreme weather knowing he would be chased away if he tried to join the other capybaras. There were places Ryosuke could have sheltered, so I did wonder if he was being very clever thinking that the keepers would feel sorry for him, sitting alone in the very heavy rain, and give him extra food. He must know he is a favourite with the keepers, which is part of the reason the other male capybaras do not like him.
This is my original e-book: "My Life with Capybaras. What Capybaras Have Taught Me"
With lots of photos and links to videos showing the interesting, clever and often amusing behaviours and relationships of these capybaras.
I have published my original e-book in paperback as 3 separate Paperbacks (as well as 3 separate e-books)Paperback: Book 1: "I Fell in Love With A Capybara". (About the pet capybaras I know and loved)
Paperback Book 1: "I Fell in Love With A Capybara".
Paperback Book 2: "The Fascinating Lives and Relationships Of Capybaras In A Herd"
Paperback Book 3: "Capybaras Are Special. Discover More About Capybaras"
More information about each book:All my books have lots and lots of photos and video links
Book 1: "I Fell in Love With A Capybara".
This book Is the story of the capybaras who changed my life, including Romeo and Tuff'n. Capybaras are such interesting and emotional animals and they lead such rich, interesting and often very emotional lives which read like a gripping human drama.
Romeo and Tuff'n became family to me. I became part of their herd. I loved them more than anyone except my husband. Romeo and Tuff'n lived as members of their family, sleeping in the family bed and joining in family activities. Capybaras are exceptionally emotional and none more so than Romeo. If anyone was ill or injured, Romeo would spend the day beside them on the bed being very affectionate and making us feel better. Pet capybaras learn many English words and phrases.
I also include the story of two capybaras who were rescued as newborns in South America. One was rescued from her mother's womb after hunters killed her mother. The other, Ramos, was just a few hours old when a friend of mine found him alone, cold and close to death. His mother had been killed by a predator. The lady who rescued Ramos describes her capybara, now 7 years old: "Ramos has had a huge impact on me. I see him as godlike. Capybaras seem to know so much more than we know. Capybaras feel things we are completely unaware of. They sense things before they happen. For me Ramos is a superior being." Ramos lives with dogs, cats and rescued tapirs, peccaries, sheep, pigs and cows. But her capybara stands apart as a very special being.
Book 2: "The Fascinating Lives and Relationships Of Capybaras In A Herd"
In this book I write about the lives and relationships of a herd of capybaras who I came to know and love. Their lives are fascinating and often dramatic and intensely emotional, like a gripping human drama! Capybaras have very high emotional intelligence and their behaviors and emotions are often very similar to how a human would behave in the same situation. We are both mammals and emotions appeared early in mammalian evolution, so it makes sense that we would share similar emotions.Book 3: "Capybaras Are Special. Discover More About Capybaras"
This book includes the many extremely interesting things I have learnt about capybarasChapters include: The Sounds Capybaras Make - Capybaras' Vocalisations, Calls and Barks with links to videos illustrating each different vocalisation. How Capybaras Use Their Excellent Sense of Smell to Understand and Navigate Their World. Capybaras Have Very Expressive Eyes and Faces which is partly what makes them so interesting, and so appealing. I write about the compassionate and empathetic nature of capybaras because they are so sensitive emotionally. Cecotrophy, Why Capybaras Eat Their Cecotropes. Capybara Teeth. Grief. Immerse Yourself in Their Lives. The Importance of Colostrum. Scientific Research on Capybaras and Rodents. Capybara Scent Marking Behaviour and Its Purpose. Why Capybaras Are Aggressive. How Capybaras Communicate and Know Their Place in the Hierarchy. Capybara Fathers Are the Best Dads. The less known species "The Lesser Capybara". The Giant Rodents of North and South America some of whom were larger than a bull! How To Pet a Capybara. More pages of Interesting Information about Capybaras much of which is not found on the Internet

The capybaras were like at least it’s not snowing. I can tell you’re around them a lot you know all the names by looking at them. I only know donut 🍩 because his teeth are exposed.

Yes, I have been spending several months a year every year for the past 12 years and they have become like very good friends. Like people they all look different and the expression in their eyes is also different so I can recognize them in the pond.

Ryosuke was the capybara who appeared on 2 separate occasions in this video, sitting out in the rain when the other capybaras were sheltering in the hut.
I would be interested to know: How many capybaras were there in the herd when you visited? There were 11 last summer. Also, were any of the female capybaras pregnant, do you know?
