    "How do I play Kaizo?"
"What's a good hack to start with?"
"I'm not good enough to play Kaizo"
I ALWAYS get asked these questions by people during my streams, so I took some time to really think about this and put together a showcase of the hacks that I recommend checking out. ANYONE can play this stuff, and while it might look really difficult when watching other people play it, they all started somewhere too. There's so many kaizo hacks out there that are aimed at beginners now, so there really is something for everyone, depending on how you want to get started. I started playing Kaizo romhacks in early 2016 and seen the progression of romhacks, so hopefully this video will unearth some hacks that have been buried by a lot of the newer games that keep coming out.
Special thanks to LaserBelch for providing me with some video from Grand Poo World 1 and 2.

I've been playing SMM for years (and watching nearly all the SMM and kaizo content from Ryu, GPB, Panga, and Larl) and finally made the step up to kaizo hacks - big shout out to SMC. I highly suggest Super Video World as a first or second play assuming you already have some knowledge of kaizo tech. It was the first one I played. The levels were challenging, fair, and not too long so you don't get discouraged. I just beat it 2 nights ago and am now going back through to one shot every level.

Heck yeah, more independent Juz voice in the future! Also, my favorite Kaizo was definitely Claustrophobia. Brutal tricks, devilish precision, but every level is self-contained and for the most part you can just analyze over and over if you don't care about the death counter. It started feeling more and more like a rhythm game as I played through it, and while I haven't beaten every room yet, I'm only 5 away.

    Hey Juz,
maybe you can do another part with harder hacks. For example:
    Tough:
    - Chain Reaction
    - Super Cool World
    - Tebeo
    - El Dorado
    Really tough:
    - Akogare 2
    - Panga World
    - Lord Pickle World
    - Peachy Moat World
    - Claustrophobia
    - Invictus
    - Grand Poo World
    - Riff World 1 & 2
    Even tougher:
    - Fly me to the Stars
    - Grand Poo World 2
    - Storks

    • @trafguy

Super Mario ROM hacks are the most entertaining Mario series right now. Thanks for playing them JUZ! Also...thank you CRAW for editing because I can’t stand watching someone die over and over playing a hack. I’d probably watch a lot more BARB if he actually spent time editing or got someone to edit...I don’t have the patience to watch 3 hours of dying in a hack...but also...looking forward to GPW3 from BARB and Invictus 2 from JUZ!!

On the upside of you having to re upload this video is that it gives me the joy of recommending one of the easy - intermediate hacks again that wasn't mentioned in this video: Super Ryu World. It's somewhere around Akogare World difficulty I think. Also very easy on the eyes, with later levels being challenging for new players due to required speed (the skytree level and the p-switch level took me a while). Happy platforming everyone!

I’ll be running thru this video again one day to cross off some of those on my list I’ve never played. I went by Tofu's QQAIDS after beating GPW1 as my first hack with some of Panga's Kaizo Kindergarten beforehand (FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR SANITY, DO NOT MAKE BAD DECISIONS LIKE ME AND GO STRAIGHT FOR GPW1 FIRST LMAO!)
    Quickie 1&2
    Akogare
    Invictus (I beat Kamek recently)
    Dram World 1
    Storks and Apes and Crocodiles
QQAIDS might be tough to go straight into all of these for a beginner; I feel that it's more reasonable and realistic when set as milestones/goals to accomplish on your Kaizo journey when played alongside Juz's Recommendations. I've almost finished QQAIDS as I am almost done with Storks. I only got 2 levels left and I just finished the Auto Scrolling Airship level. I watched Juz's playthough to see a couple levels like the puzzle level because I never would have figured that puzzle out on my own before the Sticky Key section.

After being foolish enough to try Invictus as my first hack sort of as a joke, this weekend I picked up Love Yourself as my actual starter and finished it in about 7 hours playtime (a little longer than it should have been, but my controller is a DS4 with a super jank third party micro USB cable that likes to disconnect my controller with even the slightest of jostling, which caused more deaths I otherwise probably would have avoided than I care to admit). Thinking of picking up Baby next, followed by Kurosu and then the Quickies.

Update: I indeed picked up Baby Kaizo World as my second hack, and managed to clear 18 exits in a little over 3 hours versus the 7 hours it took me to clear 17 exits in Love Yourself, so I feel like I'm progressing in my skills since BKW is arguably a more difficult hack?

The one that helped me the most was Invictus. If helped put me back on the couch watching other people play these crimes against sanity with newfound appreciation.

There is one hack that everyone always leaves out, and that is Ryu World 1. Ryu World 1 is a Perfect 3rd hack, after Quickie 2 and 1. hell, it could even be your first hack. It would be hard, but it's doable for beginners. Great hack

Hello everybody. I have another question. where is the best place to play these hacks? I had tried an emulator once and it worked to a certain extent, but when I wanted to play invictus, I stayed in the tutorial and in the first level with the first section (where you come out of the tube) no matter what I tried, it didn't work. was a setting in the emulator possibly wrong? therefore i would actually no longer use emulators. how do juz and barb do that? I'm not sure right now, but I mean those who play that on a console.
