Hahaha, all of these responses are cuz of twoset violin. I love the twoset boys, and love the attention this is bringing to amazing classical music!!! We are creating a new audience. i listened to Day One of the competition, and am now listening to day two. I need to go put in my 40 hours of practice today... NO PROBLEM, I've already done 38 of them, hahaha
I wonder how many of these kids were hurt by the 'virtual' nature of this competition? One would think that when a basis of judging criteria is dependent upon the audio sound quality reaching our ears, that these musicians may have been set upon an unequal playing field. Isn't it conceivable that some musicians may've been recording from their corner of the world under a lesser audio sound setup? Or in a location with poorer acoustics and reverberation? Does this then become a comparison of musicianship, or technical sound engineering? All the more reason this should've been held 'non-virtually', on location in Richmond (the way it was intended) under a clearer level playing field- especially when deciphering between such high calibre talent._
TWOSET You should be very proud for introducing all of us to this competition. I'm sad Brett and Eddy aren't hear critiquing the performances.. but they're busy practicing. Go LINGLING
I have listened to Seohyun Kim's recital in full, but since I have listened only to snippets of Natsuho Murata and to nothing of the others, all I have to compare it with are the junior performances at Menuhin 2018. In those terms, I think her performance excellent. I look forward to listening to her in the semi-final.
@@ChiefHerzensCoach I'm not sure if its a phase. The last time at Geneva, somehow he seemed very removed from the orchestra in the finals and tried doing his own thing, which resulted in his eventual placing.

Only very fine young violinists do so, no question. I just haven't had a chance to listen to them. As for those who haven't made it through, one does feel for them. So, without having heard her, I am surprised she hasn't made it through even this round. Perhaps the other candidates are really exceptional? Certainly I am very impressed by Seohyun Kim, the only candidate whose recital I have listened to in full. I had never heard of her before.
@@jackburgess8579 Natsuho seemed a little nervous/tense at the start., so perhaps that worked against her, but you would think the judges would focus on their ultimate musicality and potential rather than minor aspects of technique The standard is of course very high, with much older competitors who have more experience and are more polished performers, but I really didn't get some of the decisions on who progressed. Competitions always annoy me, but I love to hear these young players showing what they can do.
@@nickyork8901 I still haven't looked at Natsuho's performance further beyond those few snippets, but rather in keeping with what you say I did form an immediate impression that she was hesitant and not completely on it. I think the judges must be instructed to ignore age. It is no good having a competition for children up to 16 but then judging those who are 16 by different standards. I have looked in a bit of depth at some of the other candidates but not enough to form an opinion about the jury's decisions. It must be terribly difficult for the jury. It is hard enough to judge between different performances of a work in the same venue. But when not only the work but even the venue (and hence the acoustics etc) varies it must be close to impossible if, as here, the margins would be fine, at least for the borderline candidates, in even the best of circumstances.

*After watching twosetviolin* Me: did it actually happen??? Also me: being dumb for a second Today: OooOoohHh its competition time! Where Brett and Eddy..?
It is a very sad shame for Natsuho Murata. She played beautifully from beginning to end. Some said in the comments that she played using sheet music, which she never does in a competition once she's learned each and every note. Why she didn't advance was because of only one thing. The clock. I checked out the rules myself. The clock is used strictly for not only the length of each song, but it must be shown in its entirety through out the performance. Judges know the length of each song, and to every note provided and played by the musician. This way every contestant given a time frame will use the clock to show their performance from start to finish so that there is no discrepancy from each sonnet played or if any notes were skipped. Whoever recorded the video most likely forgot to frame the video properly to show the clock's face and ticking second hand. Without it being shown it is an automatic disqualification no matter what. Natsuho most likely didn't know that her performance was doomed from the start as soon as she bowed the first string. Blame the one who set up the video. Not her. She played flawlessly. In any competition that uses a clock for reference, only a stage hand can set it up per instructions by the musical director only. The player cannot be involved with any video or stage set up other than just being aware of the rule itself. Other than that, all Natsuho has to do is give her best performance possible. Which she did.
Apparently, the judges evaluate the sound including reverberation rather than the direct sound of the performer. This is very problematic. I think that the organizer will not get a strict evaluation unless the recording method including reverberation is unified.
Is this strictly virtual or can I watch it live...here in my hometown of Richmond...hard to believe. I would hate to think I would miss this opportunity
