    Great cars!...I remember the Morris Minor traveller my parents had when I was I was a kid and the constant tick of the SU electric fuel pump feeding that little SU carburetor....Very economical cars back in the day, although they did have some weaknesses, like brake cylinders getting corroded due to salt on the roads and a Lockheed master cylinder that was a PITA to replace if the seals leaked, not to mention the speedo pointer that danced around like the sugar plum fairy...I still remember the rego - 9804 VP.

    I have said this before Morris Minor's are a great first classic car to own. Well maybe not the 'old ones' for a young person they might scare them away! I love that you included Morris as a brand in this year's rally there are some really nice vehicles there, oh and an 'Amby'. Interesting to see the Ambulance with all it's kit. I think I spotted a Millionth Morris Minor car at the end of the video next to the oldest one you were standing next to? BTW the bind fold stunt was so funny, left - right. No left - reverse, STOP!! In the early 70's I had an old Morris Minor that my friend had rebuilt! It was a pre 1960? Model but he had fitted a gold seal Riley 1.5 engine! Gearbox and all running gear! It had the Riley dashboard seats and all trim! The front wings were fibreglass. And a home made exhaust made from stainless steel! It went like a scalded xat! Fantastic car! But the clutch was a straight metal rod from the foot pedal? Which kept snapping! Strange choice? I sold it for £80. Honestly! In about 1972? I wonder if it still around? Great video! Steph! Thank you!

    Regarding the "Modified Minors", I have no problem with them as long as they are tastefully and professionally done. In Australia was a cleverly modified 1000 van named "Vanpire". which had its original grille replaced by spiky aluminium "teeth". It featured, from memory, a spectacular paint job, a lavish interior and was fitted with an aftermarket and transmission. I liked it and so did most people.

  • @Scouty66
    @Scouty66 Год назад

    Sorry to complicant things historically! The car we call the "Morris Minor" was originally intended to be called the "Morris Mosquito". As Sir William Morris hated the Mosquito it was decided to revive the "Morris Minor" name so as to please William Morris. However, the original Morris Minor was introduced in 1928 in order to compete with the Austin 7 against which it did do so very well. It had an Overhead camshaft Wolseley engine but the MG car Company saw potential and it was the Minor on which the first MG "Midget" was based. A side valve engined Minor arrived in 1931 and by the time that the Minor was in late 1934 succeeded by the new Morris Eight it had become quite a luxurious little car! So the "Eight" was in 1948 succeeded by a new car that was called a "Morris Minor" !! There are a fair number of the original pre-war original Minors in existance.

    What a great Morris Minor 75th aniversery car show and also the other clubs and registers that attended and the best part of these british classic car shows is what turns up and ut isn't a classic car show until you see a Morris Minor but there were hundreds of them also that Hindi Ambassador after all it was based on a Morris Oxford and the modifieds how many of them had Toyota engines in them and the bonnet lends itself for a much taller engine to be fitted so many different vehicles

Sadly the car I own (E-type Series 1) the owners clubs are a bit........... That's why I joined a general car club as the mix is amazing and the people wonderful. But on the bright side I've had some whoops and horn toots.

    One of the things I've always admired about British and European carmakers, is their willingness to hold on to body styles for a long time. Here in the US we invented something called planned obsolescence, and it's rubbed off on to Japanese automakers as well. Phooey on planned obsolescence!

    The Morris Minor survival rate is the highest of any old British car, available as 2 and 4 door saloon, convertible, Traveller estate, van and pickup. Early ones have split windscreens, but I prefer an Austin A40 Farina. The car that should have replaced the Minor was the Austin and Morris 1100.

    • @michaelhalsall5684
      @michaelhalsall5684 Год назад

      In Australia the Moris Minor was discontinued in 1963 and replaced by the Morris 1100. Strangely the Morris Marina was added to the local range after the 1100 was deleted.
