Coast guard gets a lot of crap, but in reality it is one of the greatest branches. I would hate to see where we'd be today without these men/women. Keep it up.

Ya...when I was there, we were the first platoon to ever get women...I forget their names, but there were 2.

Honor Guard 1964 - Practiced hours and hours every day. We used fully functional M-1's with real Bayonets with no covers.

Was a member of Oscar-Delta 119 march order in 1978. Bootcamp was in Alameda, Ca. We performed in 21 parades and competitions over the 9 weeks I was in bootcamp. Then, right at the end, got to travel to Seattle for Seafair and perform in front of 50,000 people. Nine years in the Coast Guard and the best time I had was in bootcamp - funny how that is! LOL

We just missed each other, I was June - Aug. Best decision I ever made to join the Coast Guard. Being in the Honor Guard was cool. I wish I had an M-1 to practice some. Left after 4 years as a Storekepper 2nd class. Alameda, Hawaii, Lorsta Hokkaido, Monterey, Petaluma, Miami.

I thought "silent drill teams" didn't have signals you could see? I'm not saying that it was bad, but you could clearly see every signal.

The point behind a "silent" drill team is that no verbal commands can be given, commands like "left face, forward March, right wheel, and so on" its done on memory of what action you perform next.

I was Oscar Bravo 79 Alameda Boot Camp. Small world. From there I went to Presidential Honor Guard in Wash D.C.

My bad, you were there before I. Correction, I was Oscar Bravo 127 in 1979. But still nice to meet you.
