I have a couple of sliver cases. 610 sff and a 3U. This just makes me want to expand but it so hard to get rid of old cases. Still rocking an Antec P180 for my capture PC.

Old cases are extremely difficult to get rid of! Even giving them away can be hard lol.

For sure. I have a Fractal Define R4 that's a great case, but I don't have a current need for. Feels silly to throw it on the Marketplace and struggle to get $20 for it.

Yeah exactly. I used to be able to give my cases away to family’s kids or even friends of friends. But these days it’s pretty tough.

I like these cases but how does the hotswap storage get cooled in the 2U and 3U servers?
There doesn't appear to be a fan behind them.

I guess maybe there is just something fundamental that I don’t understand about concerns for cooling storage drives. Maybe I’m out of touch. Personally I feel like this design does not impose any risk to storage drives. If it does then I’d be more concerned about the environment the server is in. Help me understand the concern here? I see people ask this question a lot but I’m not sure how to address the concern.

@SPXLabs my intuition says that two 3.5" drives stacked on top of one another would benefit from some amount of airflow over them. Admittedly I don't know for sure. It would be great to see a test with the bay full of HDDs running at full load over a couple of hours. That would put most concerns to rest.
There has to be a reason why most enterprise chassis mount the fan bank behind the drives or have a duct right?

While replying to you I was thinking about setting something up like this.
I think the enterprise folks put them there because the drives normally need to be readily accessible for swapping and so that they can push cooler air over the more hot components of the system. I think the design just kind of naturally works out that way.

Efficacy of push-pull fan array on a 30 mil rad is dubious at best. I'd sooner use 30 mil thick fans instead; cheaper and probably more efficient.

I almost bought a Sliger for my NAS, but they are so bad at case design, at least from a NAS perspective. I got a $125 3U short depth chassis from Amazon and with a little 3D printing I have 6 x 3.5in hard drives, a 10Gb fiber NIC and GPU and an mATX motherboard. CPU is at 40C and drives stay just under 40C. Sliger is like in 3U, we can only fit 3 x 3.5in drives. I really wish understood the homelab market.

They definitely make some odd choices. What would be cool is if we give them enough feedback and they release some options specifically for homelabbers like 45drives did.
Rumor is they will be releasing a similar NAS like 45drives in the future. So maybe it’s already happening??
