Why is everyone upset over Ben Kingsley getting the role over a real Sikh? It's not a big deal! At least they portrayed the character with respect and authenticity as far as I can see from the trailer [For example, take note of 1:49 wherein Kingley is shown with a kanga and juda (hair knot)]. Atleast his turban is not a fake cap turban and his beard is not stylized like no tommorow like in Bollywood. Even Bollywood films have failed to give this much attention to detail and respect. Please wake up, this is progress for Sikhs around the world. People will get to know us, and be familiar with us; stories form the ultimate bond. It is normalization of our image folks. Everyone needs to stop being so uptight and realize the true benefits of such things. There is nothing wrong with Kingsley playing this role - Sincerely from a fellow Sikh

I think it should have been a Sikh actor. We often lament that 2% of the population gets 80% of the wealth. It seems that 2% of actors get to express their art in 80% of the bigger films.
Ben Kingsley has a better "Indian" accent than most Indians in American shows and films. I've no idea why those people talk like they have water in their mouth, because that's not how we talk. Oh, and the quotation marks was because there is no such thing as an Indian accent. You hear a different local accent in every city you go to, and because India consists of a mixture of races and cultures, there's no "accent". Even within a family, you hear different accents. I don't even sound like my own parents.
SupermanSings Accents are acquired by use of vowels, so really it depends on how/where you learn to speak English. And yes, I agree there are Ben Kingsley is good, but there are a lot of Indian actors who would be so much better for this role.

This movie is amazing. I'm more Sikh than Punjabi. An actor is an actor is he can do any role he is assigned. Ben did an amazing job. I was hoping for a comedy where a sikh instructor went culturally loggerheads with the woman and then came to an understanding, got married to her, and then ran as mayor of NYC.
He wanted to date her, but she did'nt want him to cheat on his wife, like her husband had cheated. People thought they were couple because of connection they had, so. Also he could'nt be mayor of NY as he had principles and was not corrupt.

I think Ben Kingsley did a wonderful job given the fact that he has reprised the role of Gandhi about 2 decades back in the movie with the same name. To me it is another feather of achievement in his great acting career. For a British actor to do the role of an Indian and that of a Sardar is nothing short of an accomplishment.
Irfaan khan should have played this role. The only Indian actor worthy of acting in hollywood and probably the only Indian actor with Oscar potential. A lot of people do not really know how talented he is.

To me it is another feather of achievement in his great acting career. For a British actor to do the role of an Indian and that of a Sardar is nothing short of an accomplishment.

Irfaan khan should have played this role. The only Indian actor worthy of acting in hollywood and probably the only Indian actor with Oscar potential. A lot of people do not really know how talented he is.
Everyone has heard of him. He is no longer under rated or anything. I bet he played more Hollywood roles than any Bollywood actor.

Have a feeling this is going to be no better than the first 2, which I still enjoy. I'm a bit of a sucker for almost any comic book movie.

being sikh and indian and some one who admires sir kingsely, i wish they tied a neater turban, to my fellow " not indian" folk that might come across as an awkward statement but i believe he was perfect for this part, just as he was perfect for gandhi. i admire hollywood for depicting the typical sikh male , as he ought to be presented. no buffers added :) .. great job and yes a bollywood actor would have done this good, but kingsely does it great . thank you

Wish they had focused on how his turban is tied. Could have been better since they are representing Sikhism/Punjab. Nevertheless, I look forward to watch this movie.
