I know they demolished the house just this past year (2022). My family was good friends with Mr. Bass. I was at the hilltop house right after it was built (late 1959 - 1960) a few times. I know some things about that house that most people don't know. Mr. Bass was still single at the time and Roy Rogers and Dale Evans were not in Apple Valley yet. Mr. Bass sent his pilot and twin engine airplane down to the L.A. area to pick up my mom, brother and me to fly back to Apple Valley. He would let my mom and aunt (she was a singer at his club/restaurant) drive his convertible car all around Apple Valley and Victorville. He had another property off of the hill house where his dog (a black lab named Mike ....If I remember correctly). This property had a wing with several bedrooms that faced the yard containing a pool. Mike, the dog, had a room all to his own. It had furniture in it and all of it was ripped apart. That was OK with Mr. Bass because it was Mike's room. I have a lot more information, but not enough space to write it. Later..............
What would Roy Rogers say today about his beloved Apple Valley? Would he be proud of it or totally disappointed?? Some losers just can't leave things alone; sad.
Wow!! Awesome job on this video! I would like to see if you want to get involved with the Apple Valley Legacy Trail where we're organizing an effort to turn the HIlltop House into public use. Here's a link to the site: AppleValleyLegacyTrail.com I'm going to post your video on a blog entry on the site. I assume it's okay, but let me know if this is an issue and I'll pull it down.
All attempts to restore this building have been a fool's errand. Demolish it and let nature return. I do think there is a case to be made to purchase the property and convert it in to an open space park. In order to restore this eyesore to current building codes you would have to destroy it.
