I think it’s wonderful that you are restoring your chateau with such care, respect and sensitivity. The fireplace with newly discovered backplate is looking great. I enjoy the cameos of the beautiful dogs. ❤
Now my day is complete! I look forward to your vlogs on Wednesdays and Fridays so much, I feel that I've met you before, you are both so down to earth! Good repair job Patrick and again Stuart, you've chosen the right music to accompany brick/tile laying.
Reusing what you had, what was originally there, was perfect. They turned out beautifully. New does not equate beautiful. Which is probably why the back plate was backwards, we don’t want old fashioned, but we can’t afford new. Thank goodness, they couldn’t. It is also just beautiful. You both worked so hard on this, and it’s almost like a gift from the past ❤❤
Darling Melissa. We always try to keep it in the period. You might be absolutely right why the plate was turned around. 😮😮😮😮. It is a gift from the past. I love your comment. 😊
@ I’m som happy for you both, what an absolute gift from the past. Let’s face it, today so people don’t have “grandma “ homes they rip everything out. It’s a shame. I am so happy for both of you. And again that you reused the original tiles, so happy. You did a beautiful job. I believe in allowing imperfections, it shows lives lived. And I personally think that is both beautiful and as it should be. It is my favorite part of a antique, home, or vehicle. It’s the best part. ❤️ thank you again for sharing, I look forward to your videos, the two of you are so sweet and talented. ❤️
Forgot to say, great job on the tiles Patrick! Despite your frustration, you have enough patience to push through to incredible results. ♥️♥️♥️ Stuart, congratulations on the first step with the Website! 👏👏👏
I love your philosophy on renovating and restoring the chateau. The fireplace looks the way it should and the panel is a great and beautiful surprise. Patrick you did a good job. You should be proud of the many tasks big and small that you’ve mastered. Stuart, I will check out the website. Lots of hugs to you both. ❤❤❤
Dear Stephanie. You are so very kind. We try to always respect the chateau and want to preserve or recreate the historically accurate looks. The log burners are a compromise to heat the chateau and being environmentally conscious. I think we did a lot this year and we will restart in January. Till then, it is cooking, entertaining and looking at what we have accomplished. I want to thank you for your wonderful comments and your support. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones 🎄😘🎄
My goodness! I don't think any heat would transfer beyond an iron panel that thick and the space behind it! Although that said, I have no idea what I'm talking about. What a beautiful design it holds. I suppose it was reversed when it lost part of the finish or cracked across the bottom, if that's what I'm seeing. You did a wonderful job of the base of the fireplace Patrick. The whole thing looks so beautiful and is functional now. You both show the utmost respect for the history of your chateau. I think it's important to do so. I don't think anyone has the level of celebratory decor that your chateau has. More is more in this case. Thank you so much for sharing the joy and trials of your days. It's wonderful to watch. Hugs!!
Avia , I cannot tell you how much we appreciate your wonderful comments and support. Who can even imagine, why someone turned the plate around? Rediscovering it was amazing. The floor and fireplace in general is now appropriate for the period it was built in. I love your comment 😘💞😘
What a pleasant surprise to find the ornate side of fireplace plate. I’m so glad you were able to secure the original fireplace floor. You both are amazing and creative with the challenges of restoring the Chateau de Colombe❤😊 bravo
Thank you Rita. Who’d ever put this on backwards? Stuart did a good job with the website! I’m so glad you like it too. More photos to come. ❤❤❤❤. Hugs and love from Colombe
I think that you did an incredible job of redoing the fireplace floor Patrick! Using all the broken bricks and rendering all together. And the iron panel, what a surprise! Perhaps many years ago it had been removed for whatever reason and far too heavy to place it back into the way it should be! What ever! Great job guys!❤️🇨🇦
All that hard work in the fireplace restoration, Patrick and Stuart, has really paid off. It looks like it's been untouched for a few hundred years. In other words, it looks natural. Good call on the fire panel, Stuart. Now, Patrick will give it the once over to make it look prettier. It's nice that you two and Jane & Tony can rely on one another for assistance. Your parents taught you well honoring the "good neighbor policy." Hugs from Philadelphia 🫂
How exciting finding the baffle plate was decorated. It's wonderful that you are into restoration rather than modernisation except for kitchens and bathrooms etc. Well done.
Once again guys, you are moving the chateau to the sunlight where she can shine again for 200 more years. Original owners are sending positive vibes. Happy Holidays!
Beautifully restored fireplace, I do wish you would put a cushion under your knees Patrick, you have to look after them, they come in awfully handy to walk 😂😂. Off to the website now!well done Stuart. Love to you both K🇬🇧❤️❤️
How wonderful. It is absolutely beautiful. What a gift for Christmas for the two of you. I must tell you how much I have enjoyed your RUclips channel. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. 🎄💞⛄ Debbie
The whole fireplace box turned out wonderful, all squared up and what a great find. Both of you are putting so much hard work into creating your lovely home and it shows. Merriment to you both this Christmas season.
I think you did amazing work on the fireplace and am so happy you discovered the design on the fire back! It makes a huge difference to be able to reuse original materials. Bravo!
Patrick, you did a splendid job on those tiles! You and Stuart have been a source of entertainment and joy for so long! I don't comment often but Thank you!
What an awesome discovery at the back wall of the fire place❣Patrick you did a great job on the fire place floor. I will keep my fingers crossed that you will be successful in finding the proper tiles needed to complete the sides, no matter how long it takes. Stuart congratulations on getting your web site up and running. You two make an awesome team knowing (or learning) where your strengths lie and getting on with it. Love seeing the pups but I miss Figaro 🐈⬛. Till next time hugs to all and stay well.
Oh my gosh by golly what a magnificent find in the fireplace. I believe it’s the houses’ way of saying thank you for taking such loving care of this ole girl. ❤❤
Wow. wow, wow! What an incredible find! I love firebacks and wish I had one or could put one in my big gas burning fireplace. Patrick, you really persevered through those tormets! Love you Guys and enjoy a lovely glass of wine infirm of your fabulous fireplace💕
Fantastic work and what a great discovery - plus as alway such a joyful vlog. How lovely to have another log burner in the Chateau for Christmas. Well done - your motivation is amazing and an example to other Chateau owners who drag out their projects instead of just DOING IT. Thank you.
What a lovely find behind the iron the fireplace looks great. When you two were in looking behind the iron plate. I was hoping to be able to see six little orange bottoms between you guys looking back there with you. as always, a good job done I love seeing the sunset with the six fur babies with you. What a wonderful surprise give them all a cuddle and hugs to you too, my honey bunnies thank you and have a wonderful day.😊🫶🏼🫶🏼💖
A great big, very well done Patrick and Stuart. The fireplace looks ancient, and suits the Chateau. As you say, who on earth would turn that beautiful fire back around. I’m looking forward to another dramatic day with Tony helping out, installing the wood burner 😅 ❤ until Friday 🥰👋🎅
Oh wow! What a fabulous find. Who would have thought they’d be that lovely pattern on the other side of that iron panel. Why would they not show that? Maybe they were saving it for you guys. I love the fact you reset the tiles and used the old, broken ones it looks like it’s always been there. Love love love it.
Patrick Darling, you have done a beautiful job on the tiles, and they still look authentic! Well done! I am so happy that you and Stuart found that beautiful design on the Iron plate and that you made the decision to show it off....love it. It is absolutely stunning! Can't wait to see it all in her glory when the fireplace is all done. Sending you both so much love ❤❤
Hello my darling Stuart and Patrick , I’ve finally finished shelling pistachios .😮👏🏼 The fire panel is so beautiful what a find and I’m glad that you put her back where she belongs. Goodness knows what other secrets or finds will this lovely old Grand Dame give you next. I know it was hard work which never stops either of you but everything is starting to come together and just imagine sitting in front of the log fire stove with a nice whiskey and the dogs curled up at your feet and Figaro climbing all over Patrick. What more could you ask for. Lots of love from me to you both very sweet gentlemen who I adore. 🥰🥰🇨🇮
How exciting to find that gorgeous fireplace insert hiding in plain sight! It looks exactly like it should, and it will be even better you finish the side walls. Going to check out the website now. Thank you for the video ❤

I can't believe that someone would have turned that beautiful cast iron scene to the back. What were they thinking? It wasn't even properly installed. It was just leaning there for a hundred years or so. But now it's going to look fantastic. Bravo Patrick and Stuart! ❤ from TX!
Patrick, you did a beautiful job on the fireplace, just beautiful. I could not believe it when you were resetting the tiles. They lined up perfectly, cracks and all. Fantastic job. Resetting the backplate made a huge difference. So much better.

Don't you love Ikea bags. I have several I use to haul things back and forth to work. As for the fire-back...awesome. As soon as I saw it I thought...I wonder if there is something on the other side. Also, I am so glad you re-used the old tiles. I really hate it when people think you have to rip these things out and put new in. The age is the charm! Just like me!
I'm loving your setting behind you in the opening of the video. Aren't I a pain.. lol.. love your 2 guys. If you're going to restore something then start from scratch and do it right. You 2 are amazing at restoring things and talented. I agree with the both of you about the iron plate being turned around. Too significant to not be displayed.
Hallo Patrick und Stuart, das war ein toller Fund, die Rückseite der Kaminplatte.Der Boden sieht auch gut aus, weil Patrick so gute Arbeit macht. Liebe Grüße Conny ❤
Hi Patrick and Stuart, What a great surprise and treasure to find the fire back when you turned that big steel panel around. Restoring the hearth with like tomets even in pieces leaves another original detail where it belongs. Another project off your "to-do" list. Keep up the great work. Mark & Scott
What a great treasure hiding in plain site.....almost! The new old floor of tomettes looks like it has always been there....fantastic and great work Patrick! Excellent work and soon a warm and cosy grand salon will be a place of pleasure instead of shivering! Well done! Cheers!
Hi guys, greetings from Brisbane, Australia - Many years age when I was living in the UK I had a large open fireplace and like yours it had an iron fire back and iron basket. I used a product called “Zebrite” for re- blacking the basket and fire back. It has been around for years and works really well.😎
Stuart, with your artistic gift, why not make a drawing of the plate & create another wallpaper to use in a room restoration? I believe it would be beautiful!
That must be a large fireplace! You were both in it! It's so nice you can reuse the fireplace tiles and you also found a beautiful design on the iron plate!
The fireplace iron panel is lovely. What a nice find while cleaning it!
