At first, I was annoyed at how little damage the regular gun does to the bosses. Now I understand the change. They did it to make the fights last longer so the player has more time to enjoy and appreciate the fights. The crossbow makes it go by quickly just like in the arcades but you need precision aiming and timing.
@@thomasalvarenga2839 The OP's comment about little damage being done is referring strictly to the remake, which is not available in arcade cabinet form. My issue with the remaster is they made the zombies look oily. Some models are nice like the bosses though. The last thing that needed remastering was the music. They made the atmosphere to arcadey. I liked the old horror atmosphere
For what it's worth, despite all the shortcomings, most of the game was made almost from the ground as it was a common practice to never save assets and stuff from the games back then. So the team behind this needed to do most of them from 0 or almost 0 as it was reported on release that they didn't have access to source code, music files and such. They are planning to do updates and make again the other games but as things stand, I find it hard to pay full price since in some platforms the game is rather rough. Maybe later down the road when updates fix most issues I will be willing to pay but until then I do appreciate all the effort the team behind gave. I never thought I would see the house of the death again. Also about the enemies being oily, there is actually a little bit of lore that explains it, they are clones. That's why save the main bosses of each game, all the biological weapons aka zombies look alike and have that watery feeling. They are mass produced clones as Curian thought it was easier to create an army of clones instead of goin the resident evil route and create a virus or the likes. That's also why the people who gets killed never become zombies in the games. Maybe they could polish the texture a wee bit but at least the team was faithful to the original lore.
Visually the remake looks really good with the details they added to the settings. But audio and gameplay wise, it definitely feels a step back. If there was a happy medium between these two, this would be a perfect rail shooter
They kept the voice acting the same as that's part of the charm of the game. Similarly to old RE games. It was an untapped market and companies didn't take the voice acting very seriously, they just used it to form some sort of plot. When you look back, the terrible voice acting is extremely nostalgic for pretty much anybody playing and most would probably prefer it that way. Terrible voice acting is one of the main things it's remembered for and it wouldn't bring as many people in if they simply just remade every voice line, otherwise it'd be a shitty zombie game to most. Also, there's little dialogue compared to other games, so it won't have cost them much if they wanted to redo all the lines. They certainly kept the voice acting the same for a reason, because it wouldn't have been hard for them to remake it.
