googIereallysucks if I'm not asking for advice or help during the video ... I'm not looking for it in the comments.. I say do what y'all do for a reason.. I'm plowing my own path
CJ you're the man. I am so ready to start into this hobby trying to learn all I can before I start my first tank and you are a big help in that. Keep it coming helping us beginners
CJ honestly hands down, the best video, info and tutorials!!!! Following along since ur jbj tank 30 gallons or 40, kuddos 100%, love the idea of the algae scrubber Rain instead of gfo and all kind of chemicals in my water, thanks and keep up with the great vid's!!!! Great aquascape in the new SCA120.
I grow a variety of macroalgae in my display for nutrient control. In addition I have my skimmer, chemipure blue, and a layer of filter floss that gets replaced once per week. A lot of factors add up to produce a satisfactory result.
Cj after watching the algae scrubber in your 45g vids, I went and got one for my 65g. Great product and even better recommendation! Keep the vids coming, great content and great advise!
Nice video CJ. I love the design of the Rain 2. Glad I changed to it over the AS-04. Much more compact and after seeing it produce in your tank, I know I made the right choice.
I currently am using phosphate rx. I see the algae scrubber is working great, I like that it takes up so little space and the light is contained in the unit. I am leaning toward running a chaeto refugium in the future seeing how effective it was in a recent BRS video.
James Morrison if your limited on space ... Algae Scrubber will be the most effective export option.. that's the Main reason I'm using it... the chaeto ball I would need to filter this tank would need to be massive ... and messy... glad I could share this with you.. at least u have seen my results before you decide. Keep doing what you do! 👍🏾
I have a Santa Monica algae scrubber in my office and after I installed all the brown hair algae disappeared in a Matter of weeks pretty damn good for such an small equipment
All I can say is, wow, I can hardly wait to get mine up and running. And thanks for the tips, will be useful. Can't see the poll on my iPad, but chaeto in a refugium has always been reliable for me. 👍🏻👍🏻
The algae scrubber for sure is removing nutrients lol! How much nutrient gets exported is going to be pretty difficult to quantify without a controlled experiment and less variables. Would be interesting to see the nutrient export per watt, as that would probably be a consideration to decide between growing a macro algae vs scrubbers or other methods. My nutrient export is pukani, marinepure, nopox, chaeto and skimmer. I can say that harvesting a huge ball of chaeto is oddly satisfying, as you probably also feel when scrubbing the algae off =)
Hi Cj, hope all is well buddy! Any reason why you decided not go with a Turbo Scrubber or a Clear Water Scrubber instead of a Santa Monica rain? It just seems a little more difficult to plum in the rain scrubber so I went with the HOG1.3 and it runs on the reverse cycle of my AI hydra HD's lights and it works awesome. I am in the process of doing an upgrade to larger tank so I went with a new Custom Rimless SCA 150 with a 20'' Synergy External Overflow box. I think I might either go with a Clearwater Scrubber or a Turbo Scrubber for the new build. As far as exporting my P04, Nitrates and Nitrites ETC - I use the Hog1.3, Santa Monica scrubber , BRS Dual GFO/Carbon reactor and a Aqua 25w UV Sterilizer and I don't have a single pcs of Algae in my display or anywhere on the 100 pounds of old school Tonga Branch rock I have. I am going to be starting my build thread very soon just waiting on a new AI Hydra HD 52, couple of fittings and a new Algae scrubber and that's about it. You will be able to find my build thread if you head over to either reef2reef @ www.reef2reef.com/members/flsharkvictim.74272/ or on my Facebook page: facebook.com/FLSharkvictim/
I'm sure you've considered this so I wanted to know what are your thoughts on what's going to happen when you increase the intensity of the lights on your display when you start adding corals? Do you think you'll experience a quick algae bloom and then it will die off or no algae at all?
Iván Santos Castaldo honestly haven't thought about that... but I don't expect there to be much consequence ... tangs and CUC will make short work of any bloom
I use 2 mils of NoPox a day, clean skimmer 2 times a week and have a lot of Marine pure in rear sump. I keep lights at low intensity and have 0 algae for now. Nitrate under 5 and low Phos. I keep Mag around 1400 and that also helps with algae control. I love your scape more a more every time I see it.
Cj I've just noticed some rust colored spots on my sand and live rock. The light has been on my tank about two weeks. Is this the algae bloom I have been waiting on or is it a problem of some sort
Hey cj, did you restrict your light on your tank setting up the scrubber ? My rain2 been running for 5 weeks only have the upper half with light film. Ive upped to 2 light and my trates are 60ppm. Thanks brutha
Thanks for the reply. But i was referring to the lights in your display tank for your corals. Did you restrict your photo period cause i feel like my screen isnt growing much cause my light in my DT is on 10 hours a day or is it still too early to tell
Display tank will definitely effect the scrubber. Of your still cycling or can afford to.. reduce photo period until scrubber gets a good start. They do compete with each other
Hey bro I have a question I remember you had a jbj 45 you had an algae scrubber my question to you is did it really work and did you really notice the nitrates go down and your phosphates go down or is it not worth it to get one
I didn't start wit the scrubber on the jbj in the beginning... but it did help.. all scrubbers are the same.. you need a certain amount of nutrients before any of them will benefit you.. Personally ill always use one.. to each his own when it comes to export methods..
Does anybody know if he was actually using his protein skimmer? I’m thinking about just going straight to this and forgetting a protein skimmer altogether
Thank you for that interesting video. I was looking for any advice and informations about the Rain 2. Are you still using it right now ? And do you think it is very effective ? Have a nice day. Marc from Normandy - France
Thank you CJ for your testimony. I think i gonna buy one even if it is expensive. Are you using any other kind of reactor ( Carbon ...) to have such a clear water ?
i was having s lot of trouble with phosphates and algae. tried all sorts of thing then found Phosphat-e from Brightwell. I just keep an eye on my phosphates and use it when they start to creap up. works fine. no disrespect intended I just don't like the idea of having to deal with the algae scubber. I'm not against it but the Phosphat-e is just easier for me.
Nice and informative video CJ, i used to run an algae scrubber also and they are very effective. since making my new Auto Roller Filter Sump I no longer need a scrubber, protien skimmer or any kind of gfo . Your tank looks really good.
Has anybody tried the Natureef Denitrifier with phosphate option? I've read and seen some amazing things with that. They advertise no water changes with that method and I've seen some threads online about it. Always concerned about the "If it seems to good to be true" rule. Definitely not cheap. And that might be the only reason it's hard to find people that use it but if it could eliminate or reduce water changes to every few months it would be worth it to me.
Man that scrubber is wicked dude. Looking really good. Off topic, what brand is your water change syphon. I like the length and hose looks very flexible. I forgot to ask how many lights do you have running on your scrubber now CJ ?
Just Awesome! Is this the one you are currently using now and chose over the others? Just needs a red flag to put up so the mailman picks up the outgoing mail. Joking aside, I definitely think the scrubber is the way to go.
Very promising! Reducing the photo period works, curious if you thought about pulling a light or two offline and running it 24/7. Wouldn't that be the same thing?
pelphrey you would be amazed at how bright one of those lights would still be on the algae... in looking for an entire blackout period to make sure it's not growing at all
Hey CJ thanks for doing this vid man. Helped me make up my mind. Ordering it tonight. My phosphates are .48 nitrates are through the roof. when you get a chance have a look at my channel and subscribe, would be greatly appreciated. Trying hard to get my subs up. Thanks again man, you convinced me.
Thanks for watching everyone.. Dont forget the voting Poll on the top right... keep doing what yall do!
googIereallysucks if I'm not asking for advice or help during the video ... I'm not looking for it in the comments.. I say do what y'all do for a reason.. I'm plowing my own path
CJ'S AQUARIUMS 👏🏻
waiting to see that coral get added
NY Jay I'll be adding corals in another month... still stocking fish and working on getting calcium reactor setup.. taking my time with this tank
Your videos are always excellent. This one is especially. You are using my favorite methods of export. Skimming, scrubbing, and changing.
CJ you're the man. I am so ready to start into this hobby trying to learn all I can before I start my first tank and you are a big help in that. Keep it coming helping us beginners

Wow, Great results! It grew in pretty fast. Such a clean fitment in the sump with super effective potential. Thanks for the update.
I grow a variety of macroalgae in my display for nutrient control. In addition I have my skimmer, chemipure blue, and a layer of filter floss that gets replaced once per week. A lot of factors add up to produce a satisfactory result.

Nice video CJ. I love the design of the Rain 2. Glad I changed to it over the AS-04. Much more compact and after seeing it produce in your tank, I know I made the right choice.
Probably the best ATS video I have seen 👍
Awesome thanks I built when I just haven't had the chance to use it well that's really encouraging to know that works really well
Hey I just want to say thank you for uploading these videos, they're very helpful
Great video CJ. It was very helpful to me. I’ve been on the fence, but I think I’m going to take the plunge with a scrubber
Glad the plumbing worked fine with The scrubber. Great job
Very nice video, CJ. How loud is the scrubber? Is it completely silent?
I currently am using phosphate rx. I see the algae scrubber is working great, I like that it takes up so little space and the light is contained in the unit. I am leaning toward running a chaeto refugium in the future seeing how effective it was in a recent BRS video.

yes mam.. glad to share with all of my rain2 folks... hopefully this blueprint will yield the same results..
Just ordered mine from them a few seconds ago. Will do a vid unbox when I get it. Cheers and thanks man!!
The algae scrubber for sure is removing nutrients lol!

Hey CJ.. just wondering if you used the protien skimmer along with the alge scrubber or just one at a time..?
Hi CJ nice vid.
Can you tell me do you still use a protein skimmer.
This tank is going to be epic. I have a SM algae scrubber too
Hi Cj, hope all is well buddy! Any reason why you decided not go with a Turbo Scrubber or a Clear Water Scrubber instead of a Santa Monica rain? ATS...mostrando realmente a sua eficiência....Abraços
another great video CJ. maybe will try this on my next tank.
Maybe this is a stupid question but if you wanted to grow pods for Mandarins . You would want to go with refugium over and algae scrubber correct?
yes it would help
At My WorkShop fuge would be a better place... scrubber does house a pod population but its removed so frequently it wouldn't help as much
I'm sure you've considered this so I wanted to know what are your thoughts on what's going to happen when you increase the intensity of the lights on your display when you start adding corals? Do you think you'll experience a quick algae bloom and then it will die off or no algae at all?
Iván Santos Castaldo honestly haven't thought about that... but I don't expect there to be much consequence ... tangs and CUC will make short work of any bloom
Excellent video and great looking tank!
Are you still running this scrubber by chance?
I use 2 mils of NoPox a day, clean skimmer 2 times a week and have a lot of Marine pure in rear sump. I keep lights at low intensity and have 0 algae for now. Nitrate under 5 and low Phos. I keep Mag around 1400 and that also helps with algae control. I love your scape more a more every time I see it.
Cj I've just noticed some rust colored spots on my sand and live rock. The light has been on my tank about two weeks. Is this the algae bloom I have been waiting on or is it a problem of some sort
Charles P yessir that is normal... should go away on it's on eventually
Hey cj, did you restrict your light on your tank setting up the scrubber ? My rain2 been running for 5 weeks only have the upper half with light film. Ive upped to 2 light and my trates are 60ppm. Thanks brutha
Edwin yes started with one light then added lights over time. It’s all covered in the video
Thanks for the reply. But i was referring to the lights in your display tank for your corals. Did you restrict your photo period cause i feel like my screen isnt growing much cause my light in my DT is on 10 hours a day or is it still too early to tell

I've been running a chaeto reactor for the past 6 weeks. It works great for me.
I like the aquascape in this tank.
As for your question vodka and phosphate RX
Does anybody know if he was actually using his protein skimmer? I’m thinking about just going straight to this and forgetting a protein skimmer altogether
Hey CJ.. Tank look awesome. I am thinking about getting the same tank but 100 gal. Question, How you like the Jebao DCP Return Pump?
luis m braga pump works great! Really powerful and not very loud... I'd buy a couple in case one failed tho
if you had the vectra m1 before how would you compare them as far as power and how loud they are?
luis m braga never used the vectre pump so can't speak to that
Thank you for that interesting video. I was looking for any advice and informations about the Rain 2. Are you still using it right now ? And do you think it is very effective ? Have a nice day. Marc from Normandy - France
Marc Boucher yes still using it. Works great I still highly recommend it 👍🏾
Thank you CJ for your testimony. I think i gonna buy one even if it is expensive. Are you using any other kind of reactor ( Carbon ...) to have such a clear water ?
great bids by the way . have you still got the same lights on main display as on yr last one
Brandon Meade yessir dame fixture I just added a 2nd one. More info to come on my lights when I test them with a par meter
I've got the same one
Nice work men😮
i was having s lot of trouble with phosphates and algae. tried all sorts of thing then found Phosphat-e from Brightwell. fantastic results man, very very interesting indeed
copperband butterfly will look. awesome on ur tank
Nice and informative video CJ, i used to run an algae scrubber also and they are very effective. since making my new Auto Roller Filter Sump I no longer need a scrubber, protien skimmer or any kind of gfo . Your tank looks really good.
Would you recommend using a refugium with chaeto and GFO at the same time?
i wouldnt do it.. let one of the other be your export.. gfo would out compete and kill chaeto anyday...
Great info! Thanks for sharing.
i think you have convinced me. i just need to figure out where to fit it.
Im done after this video.. just gonna run my scrubber behind closed doors lol...
Keep it up CJ. Tanks looking good.
Really works excellent there. makes me jealous!
WOW! I had no idea! You are right, the proof is in...
Great video!
Nice video! Keep it up!
Great video. Learned a ton!!
Are you planning on doing SPS in this tank? I'm curious how the ATS does with acros
Ryan Boisoneau yes around %30-40 of the tank will be sps including some acros
Cj do you still run it
Has anybody tried the Natureef Denitrifier with phosphate option? I've read and seen some amazing things with that. They advertise no water changes with that method and I've seen some threads online about it.
Always concerned about the "If it seems to good to be true" rule.

Man that scrubber is wicked dude. Looking really good. Off topic, what brand is your water change syphon. I like the length and hose looks very flexible. I forgot to ask how many lights do you have running on your scrubber now CJ ?
Phil Maznyk running all 4 now
Can't believe you removed my favorite fish the brown tang, did you sale it or exchanged
Well said keep up them videos coming cj
Just Awesome! Is this the one you are currently using now and chose over the others? Just needs a red flag to put up so the mailman picks up the outgoing mail. Joking aside, I definitely think the scrubber is the way to go.
haters gonna hate. Can't believe this video got thumbs downs smh. I thought it was great content. Good work CJ
Scott Stevenson it's all good... they are people on my block list... imma keep doing what I do regardless ✊🏾
yea man I hear ya. keep em coming .👍
great info
Have you ever consider a giant claim? The heavy stock list may justify some natural filtration... + they look awesome
Bobby Calhoun it is an option for later down the road... natural Filtration is always the best kind 👍🏾
In the end isn't a clam just more bio load that needs to be addressed?
when are you putting Corals in the Tank ?
Josh Ratcliffe still working on my fish stocklist and other things first... be awhile before I even get to corals
Awesome, bro... 👍👍👍👍👍
my choice is some cheato with miracle mud.. ever thought about that method?
all means to the same end honestly... but id never use anything that wast self contained... I like things separated in my sump..
if i have the time and money a display refugium with some of the better looking macro algae's and plants, if i dont have the money a scrubber
Man that's pretty convincing. They're just so damn expensive!
hey you can always build your own..
Very promising! Reducing the photo period works, curious if you thought about pulling a light or two offline and running it 24/7. Wouldn't that be the same thing?
pelphrey you would be amazed at how bright one of those lights would still be on the algae... in looking for an entire blackout period to make sure it's not growing at all
Makes sense sir!
Did you get rid of the powder brown tang
Yes I removed him ... powder blue was the one I really wanted to keep... tank is drama free now
Do plan on adding another tang
If I may suggest a copper band butterfly might be a cool addition if you can get it to eat
Awesome man, I'm a firm believe in algae scrubbers, glad you showed some definitive proof!
Cryptic sponge filters👍
Good video!!!!
Just left aquatica. Paul said you where there yesterday. Bought a few wrasses
Michael Tsagalas yessir bought more than wrasses tho... 🤘🏾
maybe i need to increase my flow looking at your flow
Is your name TYRONE? LMAO
With numbers that low will you be doing water changes? Why?
Also check out some of my vids!
no im stopping my weekly water changes now... will be doing bi weekly or even 1 time a month now..
Great. copipod has come on algae
Nice! Planted reef is method. Everything is 0 for me. :)
You're not supposed to have to do any more water changes by using the algae scrubber system from what a research
4 Lights is way over kill and unnecessary. You'll get the same growth with 2 versus 4. No need to pay extra for additional lights.
Yo CJ are you gonna show up in GTA 6?
Marcus Christensen no sir
@@CJSAQUARIUMS Dang
water change and chemiclean...
Hey CJ thanks for doing this vid man. Helped me make up my mind. Ordering it tonight. My phosphates are .48 nitrates are through the roof. when you get a chance have a look at my channel and subscribe, would be greatly appreciated. Trying hard to get my subs up. Thanks again man, you convinced me.
poor card
