We have a lovely shop here in town called Tattered Treasures. They go to estate sales and bring amazing finds back. We found music pages from the 20's and 40's, letters from the 50's, vintage magazines, old hankies and even piano rolls!!!!
I love how this is starting...I see what you mean how skipping around helps in varying the design...I’m liking how the variation in colors happened! Thanks for your great videos!
Thanks so much Barbara! I’ve been looking forward to this video all week to get started decorating our pages. Your thought process is very helpful and your pages thus far are gorgeous. You’re a great teacher! Enjoy your week....big one for us here in the U.S.!!!!
One of the many things I enjoy about your videos, and something that fairly few people do, is that you explain your choices in terms of color, texture, or why you do or do not use distress ink for different purposes. It's very useful to hear how something else thinks about that. Thanks for your lovely videos!
Me personally I wouldn't of used 3 stamps , I would have found other ephemera or used inked stamps behind the boot. We all do things differently that is why I always like watching other people. Beautiful work thanks for sharing
I've only made one junk journal so far but I was never in a hurry to "finish" it, and actually there are places to add more. I jumped around on it; adding to a page whenever I'd see something that fit a page. Thank you for the altered book pockets tutorial which I think I'll do next.
8yr old granddaughter and i did part one together, found our books, then did part 2 together…and now beginning part 3 together! Excited to see how this goes
Congratulations to the winner! Another great video, Barbara! I really appreciate it when you explain why you do things--like when to ink and how to put together the elements of a collage. I'm learning so much. Now I'll watch it again and decorate my pages!
I loved your explanation as to why you chose the green stamps vs red and why you ink somethings and not others. I think that’s helpful for people to make decisions on what and how to add pieces to projects and collages.
I’ve been wanting to do an altered book journal for my precious daughter forever it seems! Thank you for explaining the steps slowly and precisely. 🥰🥰🥰
Great idea about the tea bag tags. I live in the USA but am definitely more of a tea girl so I am going to start collecting them. Love this project Barbara. It is going to be great💝💝💝
I have been waiting for this 3rd video!!!!! I loved that you kept the pages simple but beautiful! Hoping I will be able to work on my book on Monday and congrats to the winner.....cyndi m.
Your directions are so easy to follow. I have always thought you need to consider pretty much every page a 2-page spread. By that I mean there needs to be some sort of relationship between them in either color or theme. With your sense of design, I am sure when you get to the opposite pages of those you have already decorated, you will do exactly that.
I like how you glued the spine between pocket pages. Also that you had no idea where you were going to begin with, but still added collage to your pages to begin. It gives us hope when looking at blank pages.
They way you describe your thought process is so helpful! It made me realize (alas, half way through) that I wanted this journal to go in a Victorian Children’s direction since a lot of the images you suggested to download lend themselves well to that but especially because I was altering a book from my childhood- a Nancy Drew Mystery (is that just a mid-century American thing?) Fortunately, I have several more volumes in the series that I am going to alter and decorate accordingly. Best of all, you gave me the courage to utilize a piece of lace on the frontpiece pocket that I have had for over 25 years and just happened to be a sepia tone of brown that coordinated spectacularly!
Thank you so your kind feedback! I’m so happy hearing my thought process is helpful. Sounds like you are having a blast with your books, which makes me so happy! ☺️
Ooh you don’t have to be nervous because you always instinctly seem to know what you have to do to make a project awesome🥰😍🥰😍🥰😍 I loved to watch you do this 8 pages. Stay safe and have good start in the new week. Greetings Maia
Hello Barbara from Cape Town, South Africa. I am sooooo excited, i have found a book that i am going to be doing the Altered Book Journal with you. After this tutorial, I am going to start preparing the book. I can't wait to see what you do with the book. Thank you for all your inspiration and all the fabulous videos you post. They are most appreciated. And although we can't get your beautiful goodies here in South Africa, I am going to use what i have. THANK YO U once again. Blessings and love - Diana Fox
I am going to start making these altered books. I super appreciate the other links you put. I have an idea to use it as support journals! This is just great:)

Very nice job Barb ......you gave me so much inspiration to continue with mine I was just waiting for this video to start thank you 😊 see you on your part 4 this will give me time to finish mine 🤗 🤗
Congrats to luvrayn66!! Nice layouts Barbara, I'm glad you explain your thought processes along demo-ing. Now I'll have to come up a with a theme and gather supplies. I was an Visual Art's /Art Education major and we we're taught the same thing you explained; "the bits make the whole= the Gestalt". We we're taught to teach students that it's the process not the finished project as the most important thing in creating art. The art elements and design principles had to be used and if they weren't successfully done the finish project wasn't strong. And yes one does get better with the practice of it. You are a very good teacher Barbara. I hope you know that.
Love these pages and so enjoy listening to your thought process as to where to place items. The first page is lovely and the gold lace makes such a difference. Stay safe. Xxxx
Well, that was fun! I’ve been waiting for this video, and i love your “series of choices” for the pages you decorated here; they look great! Congratulations to the winner!

Congratulations to the winner. Dear Barbara the way you explain your collage technique is amazing and almost scientific, if I may say so. And, although it takes some o if the magic away, it helps us soooo much to overcome any hesitations and just go for it. I mean it's all about having fun, right? Thanks again. :-)
