Things I have to constantly remind myself when reading news articles:
    1. A headline is not an article
    2. Don’t fall for rage-bait and agit-prop.
    3. It’s not worth my sanity 99% of the time to get into internet arguments with people unwilling to listen.

With #3, I tend to give it the old college try for one reply and see what they come back with. I'd say nine times out of ten I just have to block/mute them. I've walked away from friends both online and in real life because of their vitriol. And it's not even over political disagreements, it's over human rights, bodily autonomy, public health, the kind of stuff that we should all be agreeing on. It's sad.

LOL! I didn't vote for Trump! Anyone that mentions peace with Russia and China is going to go to a Georgia prison gator farm! Here is some interesting tidbits of info they could have mentioned instead of selling out TRUMP to make their money!
"On August 25, 2017, Federal Judge William Zloch, dismissed the lawsuit after several months of litigation during which DNC attorneys argued that the DNC would be well within their rights to select their own candidate. “In evaluating Plaintiffs’ claims at this stage, the Court assumes their allegations are true-that the DNC and Wasserman Schultz held a palpable bias in favor Clinton and sought to propel her ahead of her Democratic opponent,” the court order dismissing the lawsuit stated.". Court Concedes DNC Had the Right to Rig Primaries Against Sanders. Observer Aug 2017 How come Ms Wasserman and many other DEMS were allowed to rig their elections. How corrupt if the DOJ?
Chairman Graham Releases Newly Declassified Summary Indicating former FBI Director JAmes Comey knew Steele Dossier Source Was Likely a Russian Agent, had Been Under U.S. Counterintelligence Investigation… (U.S. Senate on the Judiciary, Sept 2022) So, now you know former director of the FBI James Comey tried to frame Trump for TREASON!!!!
FEC fines Hillary Clinton campaign and DNC over Trump-Russia dossier research CNN mar 2022So, some of Hillary's campaign tried to framw Trump too for treason?
How come FBI agent Strozk falsified FISA documents trying to frame Trump too, and only received probation?
Oh and speaking of the corrupt DOJ, how come the DOJ only released 2 names on the Epstein clientele list? We know one is a British Royal. I guess the WH and Congress wanted to explain to the BRITISH they should play ball!
The WH, Congress, NATO leaders and other world elites lost trillions during the cough cough. They lost trillions more when they were forced to leave Russian and Ukraine. I don't hate Trump. But, don't be a chump like Trump and get in their way! They control of the corrupt American news companies. The second Trump mentioned peace with Russia, The WH started working hard on placing Trump in a Georgia state gator prison farm! You might want to think about staying out of Georgia gator farm prisons!
Who was the prosecutor Biden sent to NYC to help prosecute Trump?
We all know what happened to the 70 yr old illderly man in his home after the FEDS arrived! And we know they have no problem putting down unarmed women in D.C. !!! And that black spare rib bbq guy in Lou Ky had to go too!

The initial curiosity checks all their emotional boxes and they run with it without taking into consideration any of the logic, facts, or reason surrounding it. Something similar happened this weekend with my super intelligent oil and gas engineer friend. He had a family emergency and couldn't attend a concert over the weekend. That same night, at another concert across town Taylor Swift was performing. The keyboardist from the show I attended created a fake video with him playing on stage with Swift.
The band I saw had that keyboardist in a tacky wig being introduced as karl so and so...
My friend saw the fake video and is convinced that my keyboardist missed our first set, and played across town...
He seriously believed it, without taking into account how absurd it was. He was calling and asking everyone to verify. I'm like, dude, I was there, I know the guy, he was wearing a wig and pretending to be Karl so and so, but in anyevent, that's how it happens...
      I was blown away.

Actually, that statement is too broad. Granted, all too many, particularly the ringleaders of the Rightist Theocratic movement and the brass of the unorganized militias, do clearly meet your description. However, the rank-and-file members, who comprise the vast majority of the cabal who support Trump (and, before him, Reagan and the Bushes), are indeed low-information and low-consciousness in their approach to various matters-politically and otherwise. Many come from tightly-controlled religious groups, most notably certain Protestant groups and groups which sprang from Protestantism (specifically the Millennialist outfits), where they have had inculcated into them never to question-or even to doubt-those they regard as "taking the lead", first and foremost, their clergymen. These clergymen repeatedly tell their followers to restrict their "information" sources to themselves and those whom they approve. They're also told to "avoid independent thinking" in themselves and to "fight against independent thinking" in others. Steven Hassan has put forth great effort in exposing this by coining the "BITE" Model: Behavioural Control, Information Control, Thought Control and Emotional Control. That particular order is given for purposes of the acronym-however, at brass tacks, it begins with Information Control. This is because information affects the way anyone thinks, which, in turn, is evidenced by the things we do (and how we do them) and, ultimately, the way we feel about all of it. If Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson (or their sons) could control or influence the type of information their followers receive, it is only to be expected that those followers will follow through in terms of their thoughts, actions and feelings in just the way we've seen since the late seventies, and, on an even greater scale, just since circa 2015. In short, the rank-and-file on the Right really don't know what they've been doing the last forty-three years. That makes them precisely the type of people to whom Trump refers when he says: "I love the poorly educated." He "loves" them insofar as he can get their vote and they, in turn, continue unquestioningly following his orders.

Absolutely: it’s what they want to hear. And Fox knows this and delivers it to them, despite it being untrue. When one Fox anchor failed to adequately push the “stolen election” narrative, Tucker Carlson texted the upper brass at Fox calling for her termination; if she doesn’t tell our viewers what they want to hear, Tucker said, Fox could lose viewers. He KNEW the Big Lie was a lie, but he also knew Fox made its bread and butter by perpetuating it. He and Fox have no credibility; that should now be obvious even to the Right.

I think it's a bit more painful than "want to" in many cases. It seems to me, many who want to attend Trump rallies pretty much HAVE to. They have some foundations of their whole worldview tied into their beliefs in Trump's honesty and the Democrats being anti-American child molesters.
A challenge to one's foundational beliefs can be so terrifying that the psyche blocks awareness of contrary evidence - even clinging to explanations which seem ridiculous to others - and the adrenalin rush caused by the harsh rasp of evidence can be transferred, without thought, into disgust, anger, and even violence against those who challenge one's illusions. It is a deep, unconscious defence we humans share.
Notice how many Democratic Party supporters say the Republicans are all beyond help - stupid or mad - just as many Republicans view them. It can be hard to remember that people with irrational beliefs can be vulnerable, and need gentle handling to dare to change. It can be hard to remember that a person is seldom entirely irrational or entirely sane, and no group is entirely homogenous. Some intelligent Democrats say "No intelligent person could believe that!" - their emotions blocking their memory that intelligence can be overriden by emotional defences raised to protect basic beliefs.
Some Republicans are not true believers, but trapped in party loyalty, or having some doubts about Trump's honesty, or even are behind the scenes trying to persuade others that they have seen him lie about things they have seen, and that he has used and is using them for money and selfish power just as he says the other politicians do.

In addition to everything you said, I've also noticed an interesting pattern. Im in school right now, so I end up doing a lot of research on the assignments I do, and I try to make sure that my sources are credible. I find consistent frustration in the fact that a lot of the best and most supported sources are locked behind a paywall. Although I understand that this is probably linked to the high amount of labor expert evaluation that went into curating an accurate news source, it also feeds into a concerning problem. My sources are usually less accurate, and my assignments less informed, because many actually credible news outlets are catering their news toward an older, and much richer audience than me. While its vital to recognize individual responsibilities in vetting the accuracy of our beliefs, we should also be aware of the systems which are encouraging these people's behaviors so that we can actually work to support the need that's creating this problem.

Rush Limbaugh started all of this. He was unemployed, having just been fired from his political talk show. He would have to ask his rich parents for money to pay his mortgage again. His show failed because it was boring. So he got the idea to mix his old political talk show with worldwide wrestling. He'd make villains out of some and heroes out of others. He'd harvest content from reading social media and internet forums. Then he'd repeat what he found back to the audience. The audience ate it up. The new show was a huge hit. All the other conservative talk shows were spawned from the Rush Limbaugh show.

For over the last 100 years the GOP has 1 prime directive: the ever growing concentration of wealth and power on behalf of the wealthy and powerful. To do that, even in a quasi-pseudo-democratic system, they need to get a sizeable people willing to vote against their self interests. These are people concerned about "values" or "guns" or some other single issue.
Ethics/decency/morality/values such as truth, are a middle class characteristic. The rich don't need'em and the poor can't afford'em. This is on a society wide basis.
In 1970 roughly 70% of the people lived a middle class existence. In 2010, the US Census said that the middle class was below 50% for the 1st time in many decades (probably since 1930).
The GOP used to run on being the protector of Middle Class values. The middle class would then vote GOP. The GOP would win elections, and then concentrate wealth. This lead to a decline in decency and morals in society, triggering the Middle class to vote GOP even harder. Thus the whole cycle would repeat.
So by 2010 the GOP had succeeded beyond its wildest dreams, but now, with the middle class below 50%, there was no longer a majority of middle class voters that they could manipulate using "values." How on earth could the GOP ever win another election?
Enter Trump. The rest is well known history.

The “Trickle Down Economics” as well as the tax reduction for the wealthy was the culmination of this effect. Never mind the war on drugs crap.
Since then Trump passed another massive tax reduction for corporations and wealthy individuals. This not only grew the deficit but accelerated the wealth disparity to it’s current level.
The outrageous cost of college or a trade school also guarantees that future generations are stuck in worsening economic conditions.
Unfortunately everyone still holds the old the old adage that “if you work hard you and your family will achieve the American Dream “. However this obviously isn’t true for the younger generation and most Baby Boomers and other older people will not understand or automatically dismiss the economic implications which consequently they will continue to vote for the same party without knowledge or caring they are being lied to.

I work in television, and in the summer of 2006 I worked on a show in L.A. at Tr#%p’s golf course over the course of just over two weeks, working with him directly. In the beginning, I had no opinion of him one way or another. A typical thing for me on some of my shows was to have our cast and hosts all sign something. In this case it was a pin flag from the golf course. I waited for a quiet moment when things weren’t busy and approached Tr#%p sitting on a golf course, and asked him if he could please sign the flag. He wasn’t doing a thing. He said yes, but then started to hand it off to his assistant, who could mimic his signature. I stopped him and said “Could you sign it yourself, please?” He reluctantly did, but it set a precedent for what an awful person he was. Over the course of the shoot, he frequently hit on our underage contestants, treated our crew like they were peasants, and when we had a very tight schedule, would just show up whenever he felt like it. I’ve despised him ever since, but once the 2016 and 2020 elections came around? Holy crap, the daily list of insanity, racism, sexism, and narcissistic behavior just wore me out so much that I became DEEPLY depressed, and lost my job. During those years too, my parents had signs up for Clinton and then Biden in front of their house. One Tr#%p supporter stuck duct tape over one of them, and wrote “Get over it!” in Sharpie. Another man in a large truck saw my mother’s Biden sticker on her car, and followed her for miles to my parent’s rural home, stopped across their driveway, waited for my mom to get out of the car, and then said to her “I just wanted to see what an idiot looks like.” before driving off. My mother was around 70 at the time and alone. My dad also had his car keyed right under his Biden sticker one day as well. So my disdain for T#%mp is very much from not only my own eyes and ears on television, but also from first-hand experience. Unfortunately my sister and brother-in-law have been big Tr#%p supporters. Something that caused me to stop speaking with them. After the January 6th events, I wrote her a 14 page handwritten letter, explaining some of these personal ways Tr#%p and his supporters had hurt our family, as well as citing many MANY things like the January 6th attacks, and told her that when she could now admit that she has made a mistake in supporting him, that I would start communicating with her again. But, she never has been willing, and we haven’t spoken for years now. I don’t hate her, but I cannot abide people who support such awful principles. Family or otherwise. In the past, there have always been candidates during elections that I didn’t vote for. But I still thought they were decent people. Even if I like the other who I voted for more. But Tr#%p has been the first case in my life that I just absolutely do NOT believe to be a moral or good person, who cares for anyone but himself. So the fact that anyone could be so passionate about supporting him? Sigh…it is just beyond me. Like I.Q.s have sudden dropped off the cliff.

That's quite a story. There's a new party called the American Solidarity Party. It's pro-life, but in many other ways to the left of the Republican Party. Single issue pro-life voters are going to have a choice they did not have before. The ASP looks to many ethical sources, but one of them is Catholic Social Teaching, a pillar of which is the cause of the poor. It also includes addressing the conditions that leave people feeling abortion is their best choice. Until now, the Republican Party and its extreme elements have relied upon these single-issue voters to gain power and advance their agenda, which in my mind comes down to less or no income tax and less or no rules on the particular business of the Republican voter, and subsidies for that business are OK. And they want a powerful military that just protects the US. Otherwise they are "Don't Tread on Me."
The prospect is, that if the ASP understands the pro-life voter correctly, then the Republican extreme will be disempowered because they will lose this once very reliable source of voters. That might set off something bad, and then again it might require the core constituency of the Republican party, wealth, to better police its own. I don't know that ASP candidates will get anywhere other than attracting a sector of voters with their conscience oriented in a few particular ways. Elections being as close as they are, it might make a difference. It might set off a good conversation that opens up paths to reconciliation.

Question: How does this happen? I'm not an evangelical or an ex-evangelical, but my understanding is the Bible is that Christ's teachings emphasize things like looking inward and improving your relationship with Him and working on your own sin. Not policing it in others. As I understand, Christ isn't something that you can put on a map.
I might be wrong. I don't practice any sort of religion, but I like studying them. If these are the teachings of the Bible, then how do so many people mindlessly fall for such blasphemies and claim it to be in the name of God?

They use religion to feel better about themselves, not to actually work on making themselves better.
Much of what the bible says is an oral history and myth, it's not about self reflection, it's to explain why things are the way they are. Parts of the bible are wishful thinking, telling of hopes and wants for the nation of Israel, these are prophecies. Some of the bible has morality lessons, but most church goers don't even read the bible anyway, and preachers can focus on what their audience wants, like telling them they are good people but "those" people are evil.
In the law portions of the bible, it says god is wrathful about certain human behaviors and actions, and perpetrators are to be executed, and they translate some of those transgressors to be homosexuals, bisexuals, and transsexuals. Which is why Republican attacks on those groups are winning for them, and if they get a theocracy they'll make many peoples lives a living hell that is worse than the hell they are already in from just the social pressure, they'll have government enforcement.
The bible is all over the place and contradictory, so you can make it say just about anything you want it to. There are literally thousands of Christian denominations that all translate parts of the bible differently.

      @lashinka2574 Год назад +3

@@Grovyle90that's a great question! I have also looked into this a lot because I find human nature, particularly cults, fascinating (and more than a little frightening!).
I myself am an ex-christian, not an evangelist though, and looking into just plain old fashioned christianity compared to evangelism, it's fear. Evangelism uses so much fear and condemnation against anyone that thinks differently to them, they dramatise how evil and corrupt the world is, they enforce that they are the only ones that can save the common man, and that's what drives their huge growth.
Average churches will use this same tactic as well, but just to a lesser extent, and do try to make church going a more pleasant experience. And as we all know, they have lesser numbers than evangelists, and more people are leaving the anglican and catholic churches and flocking to evangelist ones.
When you look at any cult, and I mean ANY cult, they all work in exactly the same way. Strike fear into the hearts of your followers, over time convince them you are the only one that cares about them and can save them from themselves, and teach them to distrust and break away from anyone that doesn't think the same way.
As far as the bible goes, it's very contradictory, and also extraordinarily long, so it's easy to cherry pick the parts you want to back up your claim, while leaving out the parts you don't want.
Lastly, there is one secret ingredient you must have for this to succeed, a persons already existing bias. A person can be slightly homophobic for example (aka, they may have always disliked gay people but were happy to keep their opinions to themselves and just stay away from homosexuals). It's still bad, but at least the damage they cause is minimal. Evangelist churches will feed into this bias, pump more and more reasons to dislike them into your head, turn this distaste into red hot hatred and fear, and make this fear/hatred not only acceptable but "godly" and necessary. Like this recent anti LGBTQ trope for example, LGBTQ people have been labelled as child groomers and pedos, so hatred and violence towards them is actually protecting children, and not actually hurting an innocent community (which it is). If you don't hate and attack them then children will suffer! And you will go to hell for not fighting back, yadda yadda yadda.
It's all fear and brainwashing, period. People don't need to actually follow Christ's word as long as they're being told what they want to hear, it's human nature.

@@dodixaber8968 As you admit, you aren't an American citizen and you don't know our laws, so it's not surprising you've got a major misconception about the National Guard. Yes, it has the word "national" in it, but generally speaking it's not a national institution. It's state-based, i.e. there's a different National Guard in each state, and it's only ever mobilized nationally when it's used as a reserve force for the U.S. Army and Air Force. It's an inheritance of the American tradition of state militias. Officially, the National Guard is under *dual control* of the federal government and the states. When dealing with domestic situations -- most often natural disasters, but on rare occasions civil unrest -- the National Guard is usually mobilized by state governors, not the president.
Now, here's the fact check on January 6th: requests to call the National Guard began with D.C. officials, including the mayor. An official in the federal administration acted on that, per the link below: "Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller immediately called up 1,100 members of the D.C. National Guard. . . . At 6 p.m., Miller authorized the mobilization of up to 6,200 National Guard members from Maryland, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania." However, only the D.C. National Guard was active at the Capitol on Jan. 6th. The other National Guards called in remained in D.C. until the presidential inauguration on Jan. 20th to ensure it went off without a hitch.
I recall seeing a video taken inside the Capitol showing Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the House, on the phone with the governors of Virginia and Maryland, asking them to send their National Guards. However, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has no official control over the National Guard.

Democrats try to stop that corruption and help voters wrest power back from the rich. If you are not rich, you are stupid to vote GOP.

I changed my party affiliation in 2020 after witnessing all of the crap that happened in real time and actually opened myself up to Democratic media for the first time in my life. What surprised me the most was that no matter what was reported, they would quote sources AND have those sources available to visit later. It absolutely blew me away. Even until this day I’ll be around my highly conservative parents when they watch Fox News and it’s just fear mongering without citing any sources to their material. My parents will come to me with these absolutely wild claims totally freaking out and I have to be the one to say “let’s find another credible source to confirm this” and usually we can’t find any. I am 56 and I want to add that the 60s scared a lot of Conservatives. We had a lot of people going to college/university. This was the rise of the think tank and the push for anti-intellectualism. A lot miss the impact that Conservative Radio had. These were AM channels that would be almost like social media today, except for Conservatives. This was played in the car, at work, at home, etc. When the 90s came about and the internet went public, I think Conservatives took better advantage of this than Liberals did. This was the 90s and they were already stating mainstream media, i.e. ABC, CBS, and NBC were liberal bent and this was largely due to the coverage of the Vietnam War. I knew of Rush Limbaugh in the 80s because my uncle from from Northern California would come down and leave us Dittohead newsletters. Rush was out of Sacramento before he went to New York and went nationwide. Rush had a TV show as well when Clinton was elected. I used to watch it when I came home from college classes. He had a counter of how many days held hostage, referring to how many days Clinton was in office.
That uncle btw was in electronics repair and he had three shops in the Sacramento area but he was heavily anti union. He lost all three shops but kept blaming the unions for this. That if they did not exist then those jobs would have stayed here. I kept telling him that they were going overseas regardless. He never listened that he was supporting the wrong side.
I have not watched your Reagan video yet. I remember those years. I was in middle school when Reagan ran against Carter. There was so much unwarranted hatred towards Carter. Reagan rode in on emotion. Murica, fuck yeah! It was so bizarre. I love history and I read a lot. I considered myself a Republican then. I went into the Army right out of HS in 1985 but my eyes were beginning to open in 1984 when Reagan ran for his second term. Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago, was his often used slogan. People just blindly waved a flag when the economy was coming down. People were losing their jobs. This was the erar of the corporate raiders who were buying and selling companies which caused a lot of people to get laid off. I voted for Bush in 1988 because I still had that disillusionment. I thought of myself as a Abe and Teddy Republican. After the election I bought this computer program on the election. You could run political figures or you could take this political test and run as yourself. The game was running an entire campaign. I was rather shocked that I came out as Left Center.
A lot changed with Reagan. Young Republicans. Gingrich's rise happened under Bush but brought the whole scorch earth policy of not cooperating with Democrats. It was clear to me that the GOP was no longer the party of Lincoln or Roosevelt. It was the party of big business masquerading as freedom for the little guy. So I did not consider that I left the GOP but that the GOP left me.
I am firmly on the Left today but there was so much fake news even then in the 1990s. 2000 elections I know many Europeans by reading our message boards thought tanks were going to start rolling down the street in how we talked to each other. We then got the Tea Party in roughly 2009-2010 which some still believe was a grass roots campaign when it was a movement backed by people like the Koch Brothers, etc. This was the complete removal of any centrist GOP who still existed if any.
I agree in that Social Media has really elevated this division and mass disinformation. I argue with a lot of people on the Left for bad takes but I cannot find any common ground on those on the Right. I have cousins I can no longer talk to because everything is political. Every conversation gets steered to politics and it was not like that when we were kids. Not even with our parents. Now my Mom does not want to meet up with any of my uncles and aunts on my Dad's side because they just belittle her. My Sister's b/f will bring up Adam Schiff out of the blue because I lived in Burbank. Ummm, Roger, what does he have to do with this brand of Mayonnaise? He is also Federal. He does not run the City of Burbank.
This one guy who turns out to be from a town up north of less than 2000 was going on about how the Left was just nasty and calls you names. I tried to explain why and have an actual conversation on wage suppression and all he could do was call me names and throw talking points at me. He claimed to own two businesses but anyone can have a business. My Dad owned a business and made poverty wages. He went on and on about how he chose the trades and how liberals demeaned the trades and how he had a secure, recession proof job. He never talked with me but constantly how he made superior decisions. The median income in his town is 52K and has a poverty rate of 35.5%. So unless his businesses are internet based, I doubt he makes much but I find a lot of people on the Right like this, just flat out lie.
As I said, I am 56, and I just do not see this dialog getting better before I die.

I recall listening to some of that when my dad took me on fishing/camping trips. My father loved Paul Harvey as well as Billy Graham and other far-right figures. Of course as mistaken as these folks were on many issues, they weren't claiming that Johson or Humphrey were running pedophile rings, but they were knee-deep in the "commie scare." My parents received copies of the John Birch Society Newsletter, not sure if that means that they were members or not but presumably so. By the age of 11 (1969) I was making a hard left turn.

In 1970, when I was 16, John Bircher's showed up at our door. My dad took their pamphlets. About 15 minutes later I saw my dad throwing the Bircher's material in the trash. He warned me to never get involved with conspiracy theory extremists or religious cults. He was open to scientific inquiry and free-thought values. He taught me skepticism and critical thinking.
At that time he was a Republican because he was born in Illinois " the land of Lincoln" , Lincoln ( a Republican) who emancipated the slaves after the civil war. Illinois was home to Republican State Attorney General and Free-thought, Agnostic, Robert Green Ingersoll.
My dad was a Republican who supported Free-thought - Civil Rights for people of color, Women's Liberation, Gay Liberation, Planned Parenthood - Contraception and Abortion, and Separation of Church and State.
He favored lower taxes for the Middle Class. But, was a Cultural Liberal.
He died in 1993 at the age of 80. He would be appalled at the GOP Trump MAGA Cult. I miss him so much. 😢
