For a 60s kid who lived through Beatlemania in the States, this was a great trip down memory lane. One event which contributed to the hysteria over the Beatles on this side of the pond was the horrific assassination of John F. Kennedy. We were just kids, the new young President was our hero, and nothing like this had ever happened in America. Overnight, the whole Country went into a state of shock and depression which lasted through Christmas and into the new year. We needed something to distract us from our collective gloom, and that something arrived in February of 1964: Four cheeky, fresh-faced kids from Liverpool with the most incredible haircuts. Suddenly it was okay to laugh again, to have hope again. And the Beatles provided the soundtrack to our youth, memorializing in music the violence and social upheaval of a troubled era. There will never be another phenomenon quite like the Beatles. Thank you for this!

+Saintly City Sue Hi! Thanks so much for this comment, that's so interesting! I remember reading a story about the Beach Boys gathering around a TV watching the Ed Sullivan show and not being able to take their eyes from the screen! They'd been affected pretty badly by the death of JFK, especially as 'America's Band' and seeing the Beatles blow everyone away spurred them on to write their best stuff! V glad you enjoyed this :)

Beatlemania was wild-the clothes -belts' Beatle boots -Beatle wigs -it was everywhere---But when I heard the Moody sound of a guitar doing arpeggio's -n A minor- Deep Velvet voice comes in with the Vox Organ- the hair stood up on my neck -A man telling a story of WOE--I knew I had to learn to play this music-My parents had no idea -my music teacher didn't know or care --So many bands - so many great songs and still songs are being discovered from back then that got no airplay--What a time!!!!!!!!!!

Ok the movies Grease and Back to the Future were fantasy musicals created in the late 70s and the 80s and as such had nothing to do with reality of America in the 1950s. American Graffiti was perhaps a little closer to the mark.
