When I was a student at Roanoke College in the 74, the Strawbs played a concert at Roanoke-Salem Civic Center. I didn't go but I could have kicked myself; one of the guys in our circle had a "press pass" to interview Cousins for the student radio station. They went out to the lounge at Hotel Roanoke for drinks after the interview and Lambert ended up doing some R&B standards with the band playing in the lounge. Word was that he was brilliant; very good. American music was the holy grail for these guys as their playing attests. John Hawken is now-was then, an incredibly talented keyboardist. His solo on "Tobacco Road" with Nashville Teens was one of the things that convinced me that I, too, could apply my piano lessons toward something that ROCKED. I heard Strawbs in early 70s; FROM THE WITCHWOOD was the first thing I owned. I followed them through all their changes and am glad they are STILL MAKING MUSIC. Wish them ALL THE BEST.
WOW, wish they would play this when they come to Canada every summer, but alas they only do an unplugged tour here in Ontario. My favourite tune of there's, maybe next year, I do pester them every year in the glorious up close 80 seater they play in Gravenhurst every year.
