- After many requests I can finally present to you this House MD reaction to Locked In. It’s an acclaimed episode (you have great taste) that hits all the right entertainment and education spots so you can learn things others have never even heard of.
House takes his skills to a whole new level as he stops a patient getting his organs harvested while awake. This ep (season 5 episode 19) has it all: breaking into homes, outrageous diagnoses, romance, drama and everything a medical negligence lawyer would blow their lungs out with joy at seeing their enemies do.
Hope you enjoy it! If you want to suggest the a series or episode to react to, check out the channel membership!

I think one of the reasons this episode gets such praise is the patient actor. We’re able to see a narration of the patient, and the mental visual of a beach with him and house having a conversation in his brain is just amazing!
@RedDragonForce2
Not to mention the actor playing the patient was "Mos Def", famous musician...?
This is a re-upload apparently, but to be clear, the Lord thing was a scam. You CANNOT buy a Lord title from, well, anywhere, as far as I can tell. And certainly not from that Scotland thing.
The lord thing is meant to be a gag thing from what I understood, but it's true they do advertize it in a very unclear way
That's not entirely true. You CAN buy lord titles. But the websites are indeed scams. The real titles are quite expensive and limited in quantity.
@@WilBgameswell not exactly a scam but you can maybe just add the name lord/lady to your name you just don’t get any privileges like a real lord/lady. It’s more a rudimentary title. Than being an actual landed gentry.
You mentioned that you've had patients ask you to help end their life. I can't imagine what that must be like. Right before we lost my grandmother, she was beginning a pretty steep decline in cognitive function and was suffering from the moderate stages of dementia. While at the doctor's office, she had a fit. She said she didn't want to be here anymore, that there was no point to living if she didn't really get to live. She asked the doctor to help end her life and he obviously said he couldn't.
She looked at him and said, "If I had a dog that was old and couldn't walk well or that had a health problem, I could take it in and have it put down even though it can't talk...that would be considered humane. I'm telling you it's over and I don't want to be here...and you can't do anything".
Even the doctor was just stumped. He turned and looked at us and my other family member (her medical proxies) and said, "Well...I'd call that a moment of clarity". She died a few weeks after that luckily. After having gone through that ordeal, I absolutely believe people should be able to consent to medically assisted death/suicide under VERY specific circumstances. Either by legal consent established in advance as a part of a healthcare directive, or after being given a serious terminal diagnosis.
Great video as always Doc.
I’v actually had open brain surgery in my teens to remove a tourer caused by undeveloped brim matter which was causing epilepsy. I don’t actually remember any of the procedure itself. My parents just told me I was swearing throughout so I probably wasn’t happy or comfortable at the time. But thankfully now Iv gone from 3-4 seizures a week during the day to 1-2 seizures every 1-2 years during the night.
Ever since I started watching this channel, I catch myself saying "spicy" more than ever in my life. 😂
There is a Japanese scientist, Professor Yukiyazu Kamitani I think, who has invented a dream recording machine using fMRI. There is a ten (at least) year old video of the machine here on YT. There are also talks about it, it's quite interesting.
These are so educational and the amount of work you put into these videos and breakdowns is impressive.
brain computer interface has been tested quite sucessfully in gaming as well
The first one ever in a human is being used to play Civ 6

That is a highly ethical and moral debate. If the patient only has so long and doesn’t want to wait it out… it’s ultimately a consensus between the patient, family, and Doctor in my opinion. All three parties need to be in agreement, not factoring in the law. The law should be a separate issue compared to the emotional one.
I have very little in the way of medical knowledge, but even with what I’ve seen from this show and others and real life, there are several layers to consider. The illness, the treatment (if any), how long you’ve got left, how the arrangements are made for funeral, will reading, etc.
It’s a debate that I don’t believe will ever have a clear answer. Not one that’s accepted by enough people.
haha... that Lord Tittle thingy didn't age well.... time flies in the webzone
Hi doc!
I loved hearing about the myelin sheath information. My bestfriend has autoimmune small fiber polyneuropathy. While not acquired it would be interesting to have something cause a sudden onset in these kinds of shows. Or for a patient to have it undiagnosed
Hi Violet,
Hope your friend is well and I’m glad to hear that you found the information useful and sorry to hear that she has been suffering with this. Hope her doctors figure it out. Great to have you on the channel and curious minds will always have a home here :)
When you try to push your jokes too hard, but know Dr. Mike still does it naturally lmfao
I sometimes get a locked in syndrome, however it only last for about a minute and it started after my stroke an primarily happens when I am really tired.
Such a good and unique episode
I've done lots of coke. My life is on a different track now. My prostate could block the Queens-Midtown tunnel. and I think I'm "moving into the staton..". In terms of my health care...
A lesson in how to horrify your patient with a LP! 😱
I loved this episode!
I love this episode so much
Doctor Lord Mezher or Lord Doctor Mezher?
I love these videos, they're amazing, thanks for reacting, but i wonder if maybe you'd be happy doing the episodes in order? as it does have an underlying storyline on house, and his issues with mental health, in order it would make sense.
Hi Welsh!!
Thank you for the kind words and support! I am trying to do the episodes in order on Wednesdays and doing requests on Saturdays for now just to try and balance making as many people happy as possible at the moment. Hope that works for you!
@@DrSermedMezher I did notice after i made the comment that you're doing them pretty much in order hahaha, happy really with any way you do them.
Dr. Mezher, you should have removed that part about the Scottish Lord. That has been shown to be a scam.
I disagree, its a reupload. Should be in its original state.
Not quite a scam, just not quite what it seems to be at face value. Maybe done so on purpose, but it was technically stated that you didn't become an actual lord, and you could easily find out whether any claim to lordship was warranted if you bought a souvenir plot of land. I'm not saying they were doing a good thing or that anyone should accept to advertise them, just that it doesn't quite reach the level of scam.
@@domacleod yep, doesn’t really cause harm. Its not like he promoted gambling or something. No need to cut it out
@@Boss24601 I mean financial damage can be pretty harmful. If you consider gambling a form of harm than I don't really see how a scam/business acting on bad faith is any different. Still, it's not like he promoted the company, he didn't even say the name so the video is fine
@@gabrieldossantos1116 the issue is, it doesn’t really. It’s a gag gift that opted to not disclose some things. What they did isn’t great, but it’s not the end of the world. At the end of the day a tree gets planted and you get a stupid certificate, just as you wanted,
Using the analogy of a wire for nerves is a bit sloppy my good Dr. - Reason being electricity does not flow "in" wire - it creates a "field" around it. Insulating material is only to prevent a direct short due to negative and positive ionic contact. Better one would be many hoses under too much pressure. Bursting leaks one by one. Love the channel.
Very nice to to good very good ❤❤❤
Yes, the world and specifically technology is better these days, however I think the reason so few people think so, is Lack of Access.
The 9% who agree the world is definitely better today are most likely that privileged 9% who have reasonable, unfettered and timely adequate access to resources, services and equipment required to live a better life.
Everyone else just gets to watch them benefit from modern advancements they themselves will never be able to afford.
A quadriplegic of modest means would not be able to afford this technology.
Were you sleep deprived here? You look and sound tired.
I think doctors should be allowed to end a patients live if they have a terminal condition that leaves them with no quality (E.g. not being able to walk & talk) of life or a progressive condition what could lead to death/severe pain/lose of self/unable to move. I’m all for assisted suicide if there’s agreement from 2 or more doctors that a patient has or will have the above. People should be able to end their life with dignity not stuck in a bed, incontinent, with feeding tubes, with no idea who they are, in excessive pain.
However if a condition is curable then I do not agree that a doctor should end anyones life just because they ask it.
