Oddly enough, everyone is under the impression that Lena's the high singer and Yulia's the low singer. I watched their behind the scenes during Podnebesnaya. On her way to the doctor's Yulia was explaining that she has a high voice, and in a later episode, Lena was telling Ivan that she actually has a low voice. Yulia does have a low speaking voice, but she belts and screams the highest notes. Lena can sing in a soft, high voice very well, but as evident in Cosmos, she can sing lower than Yulia.
there was a rare audio of Julia singing the verse of Ya soshla s uma an octave lower! and probably you'll find some live performance of her ''post-vocalsurgerydisaster'' where she sings most of the songs an octave lower! if i'll find something i'll link it to you EDIT: Ok, it seems like Juia has never sang lower than a F3 lol
her vocal health and tymbre were way better before but she was keeping herself from belting the notes, i don't know what happened now but she's starting to belt sometimes again, especially lately, during her performance (5th november of the last year) she was hitting all the B4 at the start of the Derzhy Ryadom chorus, and when she screams ''MOSKVAAAAAAA'' she hits a C5/C#5 it depends (even though it sounds like she's using the mixed register) i hope that she's going to perform Obezyanka Nol again
I only recall her using her mixed register for the concert at the Tokyo Dome and during the last year! on the other hand she only used her pure head voice for 30 minutes.. sadly she never showed us her highest notes in head voice :/ i'm pretty sure she was able to go over a C6, so sad that she never tried to do so in her songs
OMG! i was born in Poland (my parents are both Polish) before moving to Italy :D! my favourite song it's indeed Nas Ne Dogonyat for the outstanding vocals! they got Julia when her voice was still childish! so she was able to hit a lot of high notes with her chest voice! she has never lost her high notes! she lost her natural tymbre, but her vocal range was just maturing :3 if she would have worked on her mixed register 13 years ago, she would've been able to sing NND live, high notes included! her highest comfortable note in chest voice was a A#4, and by giving her 100% she was able to hit a C#5 (probably a D5 too) so with mixed register she could've nailed Nas ne dogonyat and no one would've notice that she wasn't using chest voice -.- sadly we all know how the story ended LOL i just hope she'll be able to recover as much as possible (vocally) and release her debut album
Yulia sang almost all the belted notes while Lena sang all the head voice/falsetto notes. After their first album, Yulia's voice was heavily damaged in fact there are only 2/3 songs with high belted notes in their second album (I guess "Sacrifice" and "Perfect Enemy" were recorded before the decline of the Yulia's voice). From D&M era, almost all the high notes were made by Lena in the head voice/falsetto register. :)
Yulia doesn't really have a low talking voice, she had a higher talking voice before she had any surgeries. also someone here said she thinks yulia forced the high notes out of her range, but if someone had taught her better technique at the time she would have been able to sing the high notes without straining.
Nice video! Don't really listen to them now, but I was OBSESSED with their song "All the Things She Said," back in the day lol. They have nice voices and I liked the F#5's :)
Me too! Nobody touches my heart the way Avril does and nobody can understand what I fell when I listen to her: when I was younger I spent so much time listening to her music, she helped me a lot in the worst moments of my childhood, she taught me to love music. I don't care about her vocal range, her type of voice or her style... She is my angel. ♥
Lena is probably a contralto as her highest chest note it's a C#5, she sounds very comfortable on low notes, the rest of her fifth octave's notes are in mixed voice or head voice, Julia instead was a mezzo, weak low notes and powerfull high notes. This is obviously my opinion, it could be that Lena it's not putting effort on the fifth octave but i have to hear her singing some sixth octave's notes to tell if she's a soprano or not :3 EDIT: i did some research, Lena might be a soprano for real
@@alejandralopezcardona2431 ha ha you found my old comment 😲 I see sarcasm in your words... But why, we are all human and we have more or less similar voice ranges
SpyChiick Actually, I’d argue the opposite, considering their personalities. Yulia was the one who was more open about her sex appeal, Lena admitted she was much shyer in that regard. Look at their solo work now, Lena (who is very beautiful and sexy) is soulful (see Never Forget, Lift Me Up), while Yulia relishes in her sexuality and wild side (see Didn’t Wanna Do It and All Because of You).
Nice video! I too really love t.A.T.u. definitely my favourite music group. Only one song I didn't recognise, and that was the song at 11.30. Which song was that if you don't mind me asking?
I guess the russian versions are almost identical to the english versions. Btw I think they're both soprano though I'm not sure. Thanks for watching! :)
@@LordADNsVlog Lena hit a G#5 in falsetto in "Friend or Foe" and in the harmony of "Craving (I Only Want What I Can't Have), Julia hit a belted G#5 in a vocal session of "30 Minutes".

Avril Lavigne and t.A.T.u. are actually my favourite artists ever! =)

same!! those two are my favorites since childhood
Omggg same😍
Lena uses her headvoice to get that notes, this is the reason she has a healthy voice today, Yulia sang high but lacking a good tecnic
she was forced to scream

I love Yulia with all my heart 💖💕💗
Their voices are waaay too light to be anything lower than soprano lol I always wanted this video, I was so curious!
KitsuneMale (KpopVocalAnalysis) They sounded squeaky as teenagers, but after 200 KM, their voices lowered a bit. I'd say they're both mezzo-sopranos.
exactly, both Julia and Lena were unable to hit anything higher than a C#5 in chest voice after their first album
They were very famous also for their music, "All the Things She Said" and "All About Us" were really big hits all over the world! =)
Lena Katina's vocal range is C#3 - G#5 (2 octaves and half about) and Julia Volkova's vocal range is G3 - G5 (2 octaves).
All the highest notes in Tatu's songs were sung by Julia. Her voice range was larger than Lena's. "Нас не догонят", "Клоуны" послушайте.
WOW! I was waiting for that video for years! hahaha
These F#5s on "Not Gonna Get Us" are killers!
SACRIFICE 🔥❤️
In fact Lena's highest belt is D5 while Yulia's highest belt is G5. :)
