Havisham! (Excerpt)

The work sample provided is a short excerpt of Dance NOW! Co-Director Hannah Baumgarten's "Havisham!” as presented in February 2024 at the Ancient Spanish Monastery with the South Beach Chamber Ensemble. For the purposes of clarity, it highlights only one character, Miss Havisham, depicting her identity as an old bitter spinstress; it also showcases Baumgarten’s back story to build the narrative: a passionate love story, and her tragic humiliation, loss and psychological fracture due to her abandonment at the Altar; foreshadowing of things to come. The entire work features 8 characters total, beyond the five shown here, including Pip, Estella and Bentley Drummle, and the piece meanders through additional locations not shown in the film.
