I just finished my very first knit project watching this video!!!! My very first sock (: I’m crying the most joyful tears! Thank you so much for making such a beautiful and easy to follow video (((: I’m so thankful you’ve decided to share your expertise with us
Wonderful tutorial ! Thank you so much ! I have 4 socks made to the heel- I was stuck until I watched your video ! I am 70 years old and I am learning to make my first pair ! Thank you again ! Well done !!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🧶🧶
I haven't finished my first sock yet but I just had to tell you : this is the best tutorial I've come across so far ! The instructions are so clear and the whole video is very easy to follow, thank you sooooo much for making this available to us humble beginners 💜 you are such an amazing teacher !
Agree with previous comment. This is the best tutorial on sock knitting! Just started this pattern and so grateful. I have always wanted to knit socks with dpns but found it too intimidating until now. Thank u so much!
I finished my first sock thanks to you!! It's not perfect, I messed up a lot. But I'm still very happy! My family have started asking for socks and I haven't even finished my own pair haha. Thank you so much! The pattern was easy to follow too especially with the explanations in it. ❤
Thank you for this very clear instructional video. You've been given a gift for teaching. I especially love the use of only 4 dpn's along with the many sizes in the pattern as well as using sock yarn for the class.🤩.
This is such a great tutorial. I've knitted on dpns before (fingerless mittens, fairly basic) but have always been a bit intimidated by socks. Thanks to this video, last night I turned my first heel, picked up the stitches and started on the decreases. To say I am obsessed is an understatement. Thanks for the time you've put into this :-)
Thank you so much. Trying to learn to do socks and I prefer using 4 dpn and most tutorials are for using 5 dpn so was thrilled to find you showing socks on three dpn. Great instructing. Thanks so much.
WOW! Thank you ! I made a beautiful pair of socks. Your tutorial was so easy to follow and loved how you explained everything so easily. Thank you again.
fantastic tutorial thank you so much :) i've been wanting to make socks for years and always found it so daunting but this made it so much clearer! looking forward to seeing how they turn out
OMG thank you sooo much for this tutorial! I just started learning knitting and this is my first project. When I finished my sock after 2 weeks, I’m so moved! It actually fits me perfectly!! (I casted on 40 stitches with a thicker yarn) I’m gonna go ahead and make the second sock now but this tutorial has literally taught me how to use DPN and decreasing. Such a great tutorial!!! Thank you for sharing the craft! ❤❤❤
Great tutorial , I have passed it along to several new knitters after they saw the socks I made ( I was wearing them) from this tutorial and I made well fitting shorty socks
@@NerdyKnitting the panic Is daunting when looking at the heel thinking.. hmm is that in the right place, but as the sock grows the heel sets itself into place and the sigh of relief is overwhelming LOL 😇😳❤🤓
Thank you Nerdy Knitter! Until I found this helpful video, I was so struggling with the heal thingy . Now I have a completed sock. Time for other one to finish the pair. xoxoxoxo
Thank you for the tutorial! I followed the same as you but I stopped a little shorter on accident with the foot so it doesn’t fit me but! I have learned how to make a sock and with my knowledge the leftover yarn is going to make a pair of baby socks:)
I JUST FINISHED MY SOOOOOOCK !!!! 🤩I'm so happy !I follow my own written tutorial because I'm using an heavier yarn but luckily it was using the same techniques as you in this video, also I first tried magic loop and it wasn't working, I couldn't keep a constant tension.
Making my first sock and was not sure how long to make my cuff. So I weighed it! I've used 8g of my 48g skein for the first two 2in. So I can hopefully knit another 10, but to be on the safe side, I'm going to start the heel NOW bc my foot is 9in long 😅
Liked the vid only wached the beginning for now as following a different pattern.Just came here to see a different version by someone else.Only thing missing here was how to hold wool when get starting knitting after cast on
I have watched many videos using both dp needles and magic loop. Your video on using dps is the easiest to follow although the process is definitely fiddly! I have tried learning continental style which looks easier for THIS process but my left hand is not cooperating 😢 I will follow this video today using my throwing method and hope for the best. What length and brand dps are you using? I have bamboo and metal needles…found the metal quite slippery. Thanks for the video.. I will like and subscribe 😊❤
Love the video except for one frustrating thing. Saying stop 10 times when coming to stop the short row. I wanted to see you do the slip slip knit and every time I tried to get to it I had to endure stop 10 times at the short row.
I purchased the pattern but three hours later I still haven't received it yet. Great video, looking forward to having the pattern so I can figure out my size. I'm feeling pretty frustrated with the pattern not being delivered yet. Can't wait to try out making these socks!
@@NerdyKnitting I did! I even got the receipt email that said I'd receive another email to get the pattern. I emailed the place for help as well, but I've only received an automated response so far.
Can you send me an email at hello@toniaknits.com with the email address you used to make the purchase and let me know if you ordered directly on RUclips or if you purchased from the website. Once I have that info I should be able to get it straightened out. I'm sorry for the inconvenience!
@@NerdyKnitting Thank you! It finally arrived at 4am. It wasn't an instant download but it is here. Yay! We're good now. Thank you so much for checking in. Now I'm off to make some socks. Have an amazing weekend! 🧶❤
Casting on around two needles instead of one can help if you find yourself casting on too tightly. Slid onge needle out after youre done casting on. You can also cast on with a needle one ir two sizes larger. Another way to close the gap is to cast on anextra stitich and knit the first and last stitches together.
I am just a beginner with double pointed needles. I cannot figure out how to join in the round 20:08. Your suggestions on how to hold the needles while joining makes it too complicated to understand. You need to make powerpoint graphs to show which needle goes where when joining. Your explanation needs to be more simplified for an absolute beginner like myself to understand. I have tried to make the sock in this tutorial more than 10 times and could not follow your instructions.
Yes - the pattern would work for any needle configuration - it's just that some of the instructions will have references to the stitches on Needle 1 or Needle 2. As long as you are comfortable with adjusting that information to 9" circulars you shouldn't have any trouble.
I am a starting sock knitter and for me the heelflap is to long in every pattern. I also see it in this video.....36 rows for the heelflap! Who has such long heels?....or do i have weird feet?
Each size has a different number of rows - I have a large foot so I was knitting a larger size in this tutorial. Smaller sizes will have fewer rows. Also, you can work fewer rows in the heel flap if you need a shorter one - very easy to adjust (you'll have to change the number of stitches you pick up for the gusset).
@@NerdyKnitting Thanks for replying..... I want to knit socks but for some reason it doesnt work out. Question.....Does the heelflap has to be square? I started with 56 stitches....heelflap over 28 stitches and the pattern said 28 rows. But when I took them on the heelflap/heelturn dangles about half an inch under my foot. So can I do the heelflap over 28 stitches with lesser rows?
Yes, you can definitely do that - the only thing you'll have to be aware of is the number of gusset stitches you'll be picking up after the heel turn. Since your heel flap is shorter you can't pick up as many stitches (the general guideline is to pick up a stitch along each edge for every TWO rows in the heel flap). So keep track of how many rows you knit and pick up half that number of stitches along each side for the gusset. Then just decrease the gusset stitches as instructed until you're back to your starting stitch count.
@@NerdyKnitting Ohh...thanks! I thought that because my pattern said 28 stitches/28 rows I thought this was rule it always had to be thesame number. I am gonna knit 24 rows now over 28 stitches...hopefully that will work out fine. Have a blessed day.
I just bought the pattern, which was not cheap of lovecrafts. All I got was basic instructions enlarged over 2 pages, which I could of got else where for free. Your video is great, but the pattern is basic and not worth the £5.85 I spent. It does not tell you how to adjust for a better fit. Its ends with graft rem stitches not saying how to. For a beginner sock maker this pattern is poorly done and just gives basics of a sock.
I'm sorry you weren't pleased with your purchase. The video and pattern are targeted at beginners so it is supposed to be just a basic pattern for those who are new to sock knitting. Instructions for grafting are included. Again, I'm sorry it wasn't what you expected.

I usually use 5 dpns instead of 4. I feel more secure that way...
When you pick up stitches along the side of the heel flap plus one, where do you pick up that extra stitch to close the hole?
I try to pick up right along the same edge as well, unless it looks like that will create a hole then I might move it over a bit.
@@NerdyKnitting Okay, I will look for that. Thank you!

I don't really have a preference - I like all of them!
Can i cast on without a long tail. Cannot manage to do tge long tail
Yes, use whatever cast on you like as long as it's stretchy enough to go over your foot and heel.

Why can't you do the normal cast on
This one stretches a bit more I find.
