Michigan in the house!! These are the best and a staple here. They are made with Michigan potatoes that are grown 10 months out of the year. My favorite is the sweet BBQ. I love you guys. All my love from Michigan ❤️
Hell yeah! Kalamazoo native here.
Just told my wife about this. Both Michigan born and bred so we're super excited to watch this one.
@@MontgomeryWenis helloooo fellow Michigander!!!!!❤️
Mt. Clemens, Michigan in the house. All my love to my fellow Michiganders!❤
@@SarahJeanCole Howdy doody! Glad to see all the Michigan love in these comments.
The "artificially flavored" thing is a US labeling requirement.
The makers aren't "proud" of using artificial flavors or trying to advertise it, they literally have to print that in a legible font of a certain size to sell their product if they use any artificial flavor.
Then why don’t they make things with no artificial ingredients? And most of them lie by using the term “natural flavoring” which means all manner of artificial chemical crap. The FDA is no friend to us at all and are a bunch of crooks just like all of the rest of the agencies in this country, including the CDC.
@@VickiTakacs. er... wow.
In order, who's "they"? Most companies do offer 100% natural ingredients versions of their products now, and there are hundreds of other food companies that ONLY make zero-artificial-ingredients foods.
And... No? Natural legally means "derived from a naturally occurring plant, animal, or mineral source." I agree that that's still really incredibly vague, for instance because castoreum (natural vanilla like flavoring derived from beaver anal glands) is classed as a natural flavor and can be put on the label as just "natural flavor".
But they're not allowed to put synthetic flavoring in without labeling it as such (even if it's chemically identical to a natural flavor, which most artificial flavorings are.)
Noooooooot even touching the CDC thing.
I live in Detroit. Better Made chips have always been at picnics, in pantries, in freezers in my Grandma's case. I can't picture a party or a picnic without them.
Northern Michigan in the house!
in freezers?? you freeze crisps?!
@@annother3350 My grandma dis. She grew up during the Great Depression, so she used quite a lot of food saving techniques. She froze everything, including potato chips.
@@evadedenbach1226 potato chips have a long shelf life!
Definitely got to get more Michigan made products on here. Things like Vernors Ginger Ale (good drink AND a medicine), pasties, Faygo, and so much more! Michigan pride!
Everything except the ginger ale. That's what gives me a stomachache but I understand some people drink warm flat Coke for medications so to each his own haha. I wish they could have kept the Heritage recipe and not just made it high fructose corn syrup with caramel food dye and artificial flavoring like all the rest of the mainstream pops
Definitely agree. Mackinac Island fudge, Faygo and Vernors. I moved to Ft. Walton Beach Florida for a while and I didn't realize that I couldn't get Vernor's or Kogel pickled bologna (I could get ring bologna but couldn't find any pickled) I was so sad lol I tried other brands of ginger ale and absolutely hated them.
@@xaiyab6892 Definitely got to get Mackinac Island Fudge, not just the fudge itself, but also the ice cream. Then there is Superman ice cream, but I personally am not a fan of that.
@@xaiyab6892 The fudge in Traverse City is way better than Mackinac Island.
VERNORS IS A MUST
Glad to see Eadaoin and John found their way out of the wilds and back to the big city, and that everyone had a terrific tater time today. Thanks for the fun as always!
I grew up in Michigan, and after having moved away, Better Made chips are one of the things I miss most from back home. There's a local pizza chain I used to love that did monthly special flavored crust options, and once, they used crushed barbecue Better Made chips for it. It was insane and delicious, and I miss it.
My sister lives in Florida and can not live with out them. She orders them online.
This video made me very happy. I was just thinking how long it has been since I sent those chips over and I come home to see this video pop up. My all time favorite snack food on the TRY Channel!
Thanks to all of you for making us smile three times a week!
How do we send them stuff?
Born and raised in Delaware, but the love of my life is from Michigan... Whenever her family comes to see us, this is all we ask for... better made barbecue the best chips ever!!!
Chips/crisps in a sandwich is definitely a thing here in the US, especially in Michigan with BBQ Better Made chips! 10 out of 10 for me!
I moved to Missouri 5 years ago and nobody down here understands what I'm saying when I talk about putting better made chips the barbecue on my sandwiches thank you thank you thank you for reminding me how good home was to me lol
We do it up here in Canada but I've always used ketchup chips
@@rogermarr9067 Weird because my grandparents use to live there and even my mother, aunts and uncle all do it. Then again not everyone experiments and thinks of it, because no matter where I've gone across the US you always find some people who chip up their sandwhichs... And then there are the "purists" who think anything different is just weird and wrong (see italians and their food)
Seriously. As kids, THE picnic sandwich was bologna, mayonnaise and chips. We only had the one flavor back then. The wiches has to be eaten with Kool-aid on a big old army blanket. Then it was officially a picnic.
@@DonnaBarrHerself omg you just explained my childhood. Not gonna lie , I really want a sandwich now lol
I was born and raised in Detroit and drove past the factory every morning on the way to work for years and got to smelled the potatoes frying.
Also got to see the unloading of their trucks of potatoes, they lifted the whole semi truck up about a 45 degree and they rolled out the back into a hopper.
I am around that part of Gratiot a few times/week. What time did you go by their factory? Would be cool to see them getting their potatoes off the truck!
@@davidroynewby it was around 5:30 a.m. I use to drive Gratot from Outer Drive to the to the Boulevard and hang a left to go to Belle Isle where I worked
@@davidroynewby Did a Google Of "Unloading Bulk Potatoes out of trailer Detroit" it didn't show Detroit but you get the idea
Must be on only factory left open in Detroit lol
I'm a west sider, specifically sw side (W. Vernor Hwy and Livernois) but the best goodies come from the east side. Better Made, Faygo, Detroit (Sicilian) style pizza and whatever else the east side produces-all GREAT.
A six of Strohs, two Onassis Coney islands and a bag of Better Made please.
Absolutely, maybe a pizza from Buddy's or Nikki's.
Hell Yeah. While catching a breeze on Bell Isle.
Salt and vinegar is a staple chip (crisp) flavor in the US. Vinegar as a flavor is very popular in the barbecue scene as a flavor for side dishes to cut through the sweetness.
As a Michigan native, this makes me happy as hell lol! We have some fantastic chips Forsure 😂 next you guys gotta try Faygo!
"I didnt know they had vinegar in America" ? We do and people like it. Nothing better than french fries ( chips) with salt and vinegar
Agreed! I’m American and I can confidently say, “I like vinegar!”
Heinz malt vinegar on french fries *chefs kiss*
Kettle cooked salt and vinegar is the peak way of chip enjoyment.
And Old Bay on mine.
But Pringle’s here are exuded instant potato trash. I trust these folks on knowing their potato’s but boy our Pringle’s scream chemicals and never even saw a real potato.
Love your videos! I'm from Mid-Michigan and i'm so happy to see you TRYing Better Made chips. We should hook you up with Faygo soda (pop) and Mackinac Island fudge next.
If any of you get a chance, I highly recommend visiting Michigan. We have so much to offer. Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, The Henry Ford (museum), the Mackinac Bridge, Mackinac Island..and of course the Great Lakes, lighthouses and much more.
Detroit native here. As soon as I saw the bag of salt and vinegar chips I remembered the smell and my mouth started watering!
I am originally from Detroit Michigan born and raised, Better Made is the gospel when it comes to potato chip and snacks. They have chocolate covered potato chips for pete sake. They even have honey cheddar cheeze puffs
Thank you for the positive comments about Better Made.
ANOTHER Michigander in the house, the last bag, the burnt ones, are my moms all time favorite chip. Me, not a big fan of deep fried anything, but she loves them!
Hello from a Detroit born Michigander! When I saw the video pop up I couldn’t have clicked fast enough! Before the Rainbow chips were available in stores Better Made would have days that they would have the burnt chips available direct from the factory & there would be lines formed down the street. Even before that they would hand them out to the neighborhood kids!
Whoohoo! Better Made Chips from Michigan. Yes, look at all of the Michiganders here watching the Try Channel. ( Been here since Facts
A lot of Michigan love going on.
Better Made!! Yes!! I was raised in Michigan and grew up eating these! Salt & Vinegar are my favorite! So glad you guys got to try them!!
Yeah Steve, I love this and Better Made, just like Faygo. I love my city Detroit!
I am a Michigander and this is awesome and these chips really are better made and they go great with Vernors
Awww…This made me feel so nostalgic.Detroit is my hometown and Bettermade Hots and a Peach Faygo pop are my childhood.☺️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾
Finally, Michigan chips!!! I'm a Kalamazoo native.
Also, rainbow chips aren't the rejects!!! They're made with a different potato that has more sugar than the regular kind. They're dark intentionally.
Hey send the TRY channel some Kogels!
@@rebeccastratton4114 And Murdick's Mackinac Island fudge.
Better Made and Faygo Michigan staples......
I eat these a lot. I'm here in the middle of the mitten, just east of East Lansing, which is, oddly enough, east of Lansing (ha ha), which is the capital. My favorite thing about them is that they are like a dollar or two cheaper than all the other chips. Plus you can taste how that they are the Highlander of Detroit Chips (there can be only one.) I'm pretty surprised they put the dark chips in there. People mostly don't like them, but the ones who do, really really do. And how are they "rainbow" if they're darker than regular chips? Hmm. 🤔 Also, if you eat a whole big bag of the the salt and vinegar chips, your mouth will need a day to recover. Like it will feel like someone rubbed the inside of your mouth and tongue with sand paper. In other words, don't do it.
Ooohhhh... East of East Lansing...
Okemos - Jersey Giants... yummy!!
Do you live in Squalour? Or perhaps East Squalour?
Mason, here. Well said!
I'm not a vinegar person. I don't even want to be in the house when the family eats them.
Hey I know you!
Here I sit in Michigan and didn't even know that Better Made was made here. Why I am watching Irish people when my family is Sicilian is beyond me. You guys are funny. Now all you need is a Vernor's ginger ale to wash those chips down with
Don't forget Carhartt clothing out of Grand Rapids, of famous brands from the Mitten.
I'm from Cleveland hometown and I used to love Vernor's when I was a kid. Didn't know it was still around (I left the area decades ago). Never heard of Better Made though.
"Who likes burnt crisps?"
American: "I love burnt crisps!"
I am that American, but then it would be a chip
Born and raised in Detroit - I am so excited about this video. I'd been thinking of sending you some Better Maid's for a while. I'm glad someone did it.
That said, I love the Rainbow Dark chips. Those are my favorite.
My mother absolutely loves burnt chips. She used to work in a chip factory sorting out the overburnt chips and took them all home with her.
These are my Dad's favorite chips, he was a Detroit native. When distribution wasn't large, he used to get bags/boxes as gifts.
We Americans LOVE salt and vinegar flavor and have it anything we can like chips, crackers, peanuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seed kernels, almonds, pretzels etc etc etc
My mom loved them. Me, not so much
Fries with malt vinegar!
You should try Worcestershire crisps from the UK. They are like salt and vinegar with a nice kick of flavour.
@@mirdeia omg I want to go to Canada just to try that and poutine
@@chrismartin1318 omg that sounds so good....I have a meatball recipe that has quite a bit of worteshire sauce in it
I also love what we call "dark russet" chips. Its not burnt, its a different type of potato.
I’m not going to lie. I’m obsessed with the thought of an ENTIRE BAG of burnt chips now. 🤤👍🏼
Theyre easy to make. thats how they come out every time ive made them at home!
The Rainbow bag is insanely good. Especially with chip dip.
They are so good and sometimes not easy to find.
Martin: I never heard a' ya.
Most people from the US: Nope, us either.
Michiganders: Hold my Faygo!
6:03 We definitely have Salt & Vinegar. I was staring at them on the store shelf yesterday wanting to buy them but also remembering my doctor complaining about my sodium levels.
I personally appreciate the flavor of burnt chips. When I'm eating from a bag of Lay's chips, I'll purposefully pull the burnt ones to the side to eat them later by themselves.
They are amazing with a good onion dip.
This is the way. ⬆️
Éadaoin looks lovely in the video and glad she and the other enjoyed most of The Better Made Chips.
I was born in Michigan but lived most of my life in Florida. Better Made are the best chips anywhere
They are one of the few brands that aren't shy with the vinegar. If I'm eating that flavor, I want my tongue to burn after a handful.
EDIT: The Dark variety is for the people who like the overdone crisps and act as a way for the manufacturer to monetize their rejects. It's a win/win.
I was pleasantly surprised to see a product from my home state on this channel. Better Made are truly the GOAT in the chip world.
Anne has lowkey become a favorite trier of mine 👌
Waterford, Michigan which is about 40 miles (64.4 km) north of Detroit there is Downey's Potato Chips. They are only 3 miles (4.8 km) from me and they are VERY good, but they only have 4 flavor varieties. Slàinte! ~Be Blessed
As someone from Detroit, Michigan who grew up with Better Made chips, I wholeheartedly approve this video.
These are 100% the best chips(not crisps; it's an American thing) around.
Definitely the best chips I've ever had, and I've had many brands from around the country.
Nothing BETTER than better made chips and a nice cold Faygo pop
Better Made is way more popular here in Michigan than any other chip company, especially Lays. The pretzels, the pre-popped popcorn, the chips, we love it all. You can’t go ANYWHERE in Michigan to a party without seeing at least 1 bag from Better Made.
I'm from Michigan, and Better Made are the BEST. As to the "dark" ones, there really are some people who requested that flavor. No idea why, but they actually like it. The barbeque are the best of the best.
There is always someone who has a weird love for the burnt stuff.. Like burnt toast, burnt marshmallows, burnt (well done) steak... In this case burnt chips.
My sister adores (and I mean ADORRRRES) those burned ones.
Can confirm. That person you are describing is my mother to a T. No wonder I like everything underdone now as an adult.
Oddly. The Dark flavor seems a bit sweet to me
Somehow when Anne was reading about "...Only Better Made remains", (0:54) I picture the Baptism scene from The Godfather.
Michigan has some truly great food. If I still lived there I woukd send you some "Kogels Viennas" they are the absolute most delicious most cleanly made hot dogs EVER IN THE WORLD!
Not a fan of hot dogs really... I'm a fan of Kogel Vienna's 😉
don't forget the koegel's dinner franks! they are awesome, too
TRUE!
I grew up in Detroit, not too far from Corktown, the oldest neighborhood in Detroit settled by Irish from County Cork.
Better Made is an east side Detroit thing but all Detroiters love this brand.
The plain ones are best Mexican style. You toss some Frank's Hot Sauce on them and spritz them with some fresh squeezed lime juice and you are on to something. TRUST ME
Oh my God I LOVE the rainbow dark!... but seriously, they're my favorite
Better Made has a LOT of varieties of flavors. Rainbow is an interesting bag as it's not a flavor, but they found a way to use the chips that got "well cooked" and are brown. Some really love them. I can't eat them straight from the bag, but they work with dips and crumbled into stews. Slàinte! ~Be Blessed
Rainbow chips aren't burnt or overcooked. They're made with a different potato that contains more sugar. They're intentionally dark. Stop perpetuating this falsehood.
They look like they'd be great as a crumbled topping on some casseroles
I don't care how they do it, I'm just glad they do. I love the intense flavor!
🙋 am one of those that love the Rainbow chips. I love in Wisconsin and order them for myself.
@@patrickorourke5139 That was an adorable typo!!
I am from Detroit these are the best ever. Good hard working people making good food
OMG! I love John's impersonation of an American! The more he hams it up, the more accurate it becomes! Hilarious!
Oh my God my mother would have loved a bag of Dark chips. She used to go through the bucket of Granite State Potato Chips looking for the "burnt" ones! 😁 And yes I said bucket ... Granite State Potato Chips would come in a giant bucket if you bought them directly from the place where they were made in Salem New Hampshire. And you would bring the bucket back and they would refill it for you! 🤗
I must complain, tasting chips with no BEER, that's cruel. But it's the TRY channel and still gets a thumbs up. PS I love burnt chips.
As a Detroiter I'm so glad you all got to try Better Made chips!
Sooooo...one of my very best friends is the niece of the Better Made family. They're the nicest people ever. Love the Ciprianos. R.I.P. Sam Cipriano ❤
If you can impress an right Irish person with your potato chips you are doing it right
Welcome back Éadaoin! Missed ya! Was afraid you might not be coming back.
Growing up we didn't have a lot of money. My father worked at the local potato chip factory, and got to bring boxes full of bags of chips home. One of my favorite things was a chip sandwich! With just the right amount of ketchup on it. That was awesome. Was also great to make them and mix the chip types together too! John is right, those are just great.
Me and my friends in high school LOVED salt and vinegar chips!!! We called them douche chips just to gross everyone else out!
This is the first video where I can't find a single "I'm from this place and have never heard of this thing before" type post.
Salt and vinegar chips are available from pretty much any chip brand in USA, but not a lot of people like salt and vinegar compared to other flavors (salt and vinegar is my personal favorite). Additionally, a lot of North East beach boardwalks offer vinegar to put on your boardwalk fries; some boardwalk fries stands ONLY offer vinegar as a topping.
Burnt chips are my favorite for sure. Back in the day you could go to the Better Maid factory and buy them as rejects for pennies a bag. Nostalgia!
You need to wash that down with some Vernors.
Steve Cooper - God Bless you - you beat us to it! : ) We've been talking about doing this but did not want the chips / crisps held up in customs!
Having grown up near Detroit I can tell you better made BBQ chips are hands down the best BBQ chip and the best flavor from better made
I dunno...I went to school in MI and ate bettermade chips. They are very, very good but Grippo's BBQ chips are the best thing your mouth will ever taste. 😋😊
Better Made corn pops. The caramel corn recipe on the back of the bag is the BEST!
Was watching Ash vs. The Evil Dead and it was making me think of Michigan. The state gives us so many good things. Thanks Michigan.
There's a lot more going on here than most people think... Especially if you like beer, wine, whiskey or gin! 😁

Does my heart good to see Better Made get some love.
I eat my sandwiches and burgers exactly how John described, with my chips on the inside 😁
It's a universal thing (likely started in America since we created chips)
Bologna sandwiches with mustard and original (ready salted) chips is a very American thing. There are also tons of regional combinations for sandwhiches with chips on them across the U.S. In my part of NY a big one growing up was Pastrami on Rye with either Dill Pickle or Salt & Vinegar chips. 2nd most popular was probably Ham and Swiss with Sour Cream & Onion chips. Another one that is popular is Sour Cream & Cheddar chips on sloppy joes.
Try opening chip bags upside down. During transport and storage the seasoning settles to the bottom of the bag, opening them bottom first redistributes the seasoning.
From Saginaw Michigan
Better maid is my favorite
Hope u all enjoy them
JOHN SHARPSON, some of us in America have been putting chips (crisp) on burgers and sandwich's for a long time !
Amazing that Claire came equipped with Salt and Vinegar packet colored nail polish.
Awesome Detroit product. The Better Made Rainbow Dark chips are cooked well done/darker..than regular chips. Rich and savory. SO Good!!
Ok, just as a heads up from a Detroiter; you really need french onion dip or at least some sour cream to dip these chips in. I can't remember a time when I ate some Better Made's straight up like this.
Yesssss, bettermades are the best chips in the usa. And you know they're good if martin gives it the stamp of approval. he tends to be the most critical of the TRY'ers.
Oh, this is gonna be good! Michigan vs. Ohio.
I just sent them a package of Grippo's stuff! I can't wait to see their comparisons!
I LOVE burnt potato chips!!! Ordering some rainbow darks right now!!
Here in Australia green is chicken flavour, pink is salt and vinegar, cheese and onion are yellow, barbeque are orange and dark blue is ready salted. Loved the video as usual guys 😉
If you're around the Detroit area, make sure to bar hop around Corktown, our Irish home away from home.
I grew up adding regular lays chips to my ham sandwich.
Salt and vinegar potato chips weren't anywhere in the States back in the 90s. Now they're fairly common. My great niece (she's eleven) was somewhat surprised that I'd never even seen salt and vinegar chips until the 90s.

Fuck yeah! If you're eating these without Vernors you're not doing it right! Lol
OMG Vernors!! The only reasons I didn't like living outside of Mi was the lack of Vernors, Better Made and in some states, Kogel pickled bologna
My man! Another iconic Detroit product!
