Agree... very reliable petrol engine in comparing with i.e. VW, Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat... engines. Excelent car for city. Low maintenance cost.

it is dull and ugly but it is spacious comfortable, low maintenance, the engine has high power for n/a 1.6. I mean a few 1.8 engines of that generation of cars had the kind of power that toyota put in a 1.6. It also warms up really quickly and the gear lever is excelently positioned. I think it's a great cheap car.
Also maintenance is so easy you can do it yourself. took me 30 mins to change the oil and air filter, pollen filter and oil filter

Yes, but people buy this for reliability, not looks. The VVT-i engines reign supreme in petrol engines. And a family who do mostly short trips will ruin their wallet with a DPF diesel. This is a no nonsense car.
