Guys, dont get too overexcited of notion advertisements 😀. Also know the disadvantages of NOTION before using it . Unfortunately nobody says the disadvantages of it. 1. Data Security : Your personal data is not secure and it is with the 3rd party cloud. Notion dosent have a strong encryption. 2. Data owner : You dont own your data , it is the 3rd party which owns your data. There is always a risk of your data getting lost. 3. Data loss : Many users have experienced sudden data loss including me, you cannot retrieve it back. All your hardwork will be zero. There is a option "Restore Version" for restoration of data in notion, but that dosent work properly. 4. Too much customization : Notion has hell lots of customizations, most people get lost in the formulas, design etc , rather than doing the actual work. 5. No backlinking available for connecting your notes for study : Backlinking is available for only linking databases. But backlinking is NOT available for connecting your ideas stored in your notes. Hence not at all advisible for students. 6. Offline use is not good : Notion works seamlessly only with high speed internet. Offline it not great. 7. Notion is Slow : Working on notion is slow at times and you need to keep waiting and waiting for the data to be visible for you. 8. Forces you to have a Task manager : It will tempt you to use notion for everything . eg: taskmanager. Note that there are better dedicated task manager apps then the complicated notion. THEN WHAT IS NOTION GOOD FOR ? 1. Kanban Boards : For your project management, tracking your work progress, you can use Kanban boards. This is very helpful to track your work. This was shown in this video. 2. Paid business plan in notion : The paid business plan in good in notion if you wanted your data to be safe and 30 days version of history maintained. I have heard paid business plan data is taken care properly if data is lost . WHICH IS GOOD FREE APP FOR STUDENTS ? Students can use free app obsidian or logseq . All your notes and data is owned by you and NOT 3rd party. It works seamlessly in offline (without internet) . Working on these is very fast. no lags. It supports MARKDOWN , hence you can move your notes to any other new apps in future with ease. These apps dosent have native kanban boards , but there are different plugins to help you get the Kanban board like notion and store it in offline use.
