It's actually quite intricate, I think. It's a real-time war. Planets can be liberated by Helldivers or they can be conquered by space enemies. Currently, we are farming bugs for valuable resources to maintain Super Earth and keeping them on the map, without taking them off of the map. Need those resources. Bots on the other hand, well, we wiped them off the map. But they came back with vengeance and retook quite a handful of planets. The developers are very invested and involved. Arriving at a planet, you can see groups of other player's ships, varying from 1 to 4 ships, based on squad size. You can watch the ships as the Helldivers used items called, "strategems" that aid in battle from your ship. They can be airstrikes, heavy weapons, shields, orbital strikes, sentries, a mech suit and supplies and more on the way, I'm sure. I have also seen ships blow up. I assume from Helldivers giving up. There are also mission objective strategems as well. Collect samples while doing missions to slightly improve the functionality of your strategems. Arriving on a planet, you can actually watch strategems, air strikes and orbital strikes going off in the distance where Helldivers are doing missions on other parts of each planet. Want to drop a 500kg bomb on a friend? You can do that on purpose or on accident super easy. The premium content, "acquisitions" is easily obtainable as you find "warbond medals" during missions, and they are rewarded heftily for Major Orders completed, defending planets or taking planets. You can also get them through personal orders - like killing enemies with a specific weapon, or killing a certain amount of enemy unit. That gives you the resources needed to make purchases in "Warbonds" to get new gear: cloak, helmet, armor, grenade, primary weapon and secondary weapon, boosters that help in various ways (1 per helldiver, per mission), poses, emotes and player card. I've been playing since the beginning of the month and I already have 3 of 4 warbonds unlocked. If you really wanted to buy a warbond, it's like 10 dollars.
The Starship Troopers Bugs have Vertical Mandibles. The Soldiers that is. They also have little to no abdomen, and most of them are Soldier Bugs, like an overwhelming amount. So they clearly have a huge Species difference when it comes to Social Structure alone. They are also able to shoot ships out of the sky by shooting Plasma out their ass. And shit like that. There is a MASSIVELY higher Polymorphism in their Species. Sure we have the Bile Titan in Helldivers, but all Terminids have a uniform design in some way or another. You can recognize they are the same Species at least a little. The Bugs in Starship Troopers all look like they are different Species Entirely and have WILDLY different abilities. While "In Helldibblers Bug Spit Acid" Sometimes really far, or a whole lot, but that´s it, so far. So the Helldivers Bugs are pretty tame
This game is a great mockery of Western democracy and everything that stands on it). recently watched one nostreamer who mocked the game and developers for the fact that it does not have boxes with skins as in Counter Strike and that the developers do not force players to spend their money on top of what they spent to buy the game. It's amazing that the game from LITTLE developers who are remembered only for the first Magica was able to piss on the popularity of many MULTIMILLION AAAAAA games, and now the big publishers and their game companies that have learned how to make games bite their elbows. and also rainbow minorities and other mutants in it is not welcome, which is very happy.
Tbf, it doesnt mock democracy, but fascism and a particular authors idea on patriotism (same one the movie starship troopers made fun of). And no, lgbt and any other minority groups are accepted, just not represented in cosmetics. Everyone is welcome and accepted in lore and in the hd2 community.
The only thing that ruined this game for me is the micropay. Im so sick of micropay. Even tekken 8 has given into the battlepass and bundle crap as a full priced game.
everything how the devs handle the community gameplay and story the amount of fun you can have even with random people live service is finally good microtransaction really are micro and all the battlepass you can unlock for free because the premium currency is findable in every mission the first free pass is the best one, skins are cheap like 2$ the game humor and vibe very good the story is moving forward by the players action we get constant updates what the developers are working on
It´s basically Starship Troopers, the Game. They got so many things right leaning into Starship Troopers that it is honestly almost a bit better. The Intro is a Propaganda Commercial for the Corpocracy of "Super" Earth, You are an overglorified expendable Conscript getting hyped up by said propaganda. And on the Regular, you will die Horrible Horrible Deaths. Fighting Space Communist Terminators and Bugs. Controlls are amazing, and the Weapons you get are not exactly over the top, but BOY do you have a crazy arsenal. It´s also one of the most fair if not THE most Fairly monetized games on the market since at least 10 years. You can just play the game and have fun, and collect Premium currency while you play. And it is CINEMATIC AS HELL. Watch a Helldivers Epic moments compilation or one of the many "Helldivers Free Bird" Montages, and you´ll know. You can literally Drop an Airstrike at you feet while surrounded by Bugs and Jetpack out of the Range like an absolute Madman. THAT is fucking Gameplay!!
XD Tell me you're a tourist without outright telling me you're one. Name a game that has you DROP (not land like NMS, DROP) from orbit with a satisfying crash, toss out a beacon to unload a 20 second barrage of 380mm explosive artillery HATE from orbit that shakes the earth underneath you while you call in machine guns, grenade launchers, rockets, and energy/plasma weaponry to just outright ruin someone's day. And don't name the first game. That's just lazy. Yes, the game pays homage to Starship Troopers. Yes we all know the movie is a joke and not as good as the book. WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW MORE? How do I know you're a tourist? You haven't touched once on how Helldivers 2 respects your wallet by not making you miss out on weapons or cosmetics with Fear of missing out or 'FOMO' and while you can pay some real money to look good, you can also earn the stuff needed to buy everything in-game with no extra money spent. All this for a one-time low price $40 USD purchase when games these days demand $70 or more for the base game and then an extra $20 per DLC to 'enhance' the experience. Why do you think I'm not touching Star Wars: Outlaw with a 10 foot pole? Come back when you have an actual argument. Otherwise enjoy your time in the gaming sphere but there's the door when you leave in two weeks. Helldivers 2: When you want to play as a Pathfinder with undisputed control of the High Orbitals.
