I’m 79, fit and interested in improving my vo2 max. Obviously I can’t run intervals back to back to back and I don’t bike for a lot of reasons. I do walk about 15 miles a day and I lift. What can I realistically do to improve my vo2 max? Thank you; I’ll take my answer off the air.
Unfortunately "moderately long" intervals are the most efficient way to improve VO2Max. A common protocol is 4x4 minutes (plus warmup, rest between sets and cool down). One way to lessen the strain is by doing uphill jogging/running (you go slower but it's easier to get your HR up). Try to keep a steady pace instead of going too fast in the beginning and losing steam). When starting out just do less repetitions or keep the interval shorter (just 2 minutes for example). Another good option is a static bike, easy to keep a steady effort and no risk of falling down.
@@pedro.almeida, thank you. Appreciate the input.
Anything that gets ur heart rate up and doesn't hurt ur joints. My city if a pensioner can see a sports physiologist 5 times a year free. What u are motivated to do they support if works muscles gets heart rate up.
Lunges or squats in a door way with a chair behind u. PS do u know ur CAC score?
@@nikitaw1982why do I need a chair?
Good advice for anything really. If you don’t like doing something then it doesn’t matter how beneficial it is, because after a while you’ll stop doing it.
Really cool story at the end. Just do wgat ever the hell u want just stay consistent, dont get injured.
Valuable question, valuable answer. Thank you Nik and Alex Hutchinson!
Great clip. There are so many opinions about what the right way of running/training is in the running scene (MAF v Zone 2 v 80/20, etc). I think the main aspect is often missed: move! Do something. Actually, moving around matters the most:)
So somewhere between movement and climbing Everest haha. just kidding.. really good info in this clip.
