  • This video is about creating custom storage for your ink refill bottles from Foam Core. See my other two videos (Ink Pad storage, and Shimmer Spritz storage) for directions to make the outside of the box. Same thing here. Measure the side lengths and cut your Foam Core, then measure the top and bottom from both side pieces and cut from Foam Core.
    Full directions to measure dimensions can be found on my blog:
    messageinafold....
    Foam Core can be purchased at your local craft/hobby store or online. The metal tape can be found at your local home improvement center or hardware store. Ask for "Aluminum Tape". This tape is actually metal and not the vinyl duck tape.
    Get your craft room in order by making your "Custom Storage Unit". No power tools required.

    Thank you Shelly. I'm pleasantly surprised by the sturdiness of these things and how easy it was working with the Foam Core. You guys will have a great time when you and Brian take this on :D

    Thank you Maureen :D Joe was impressed with these, and I didn't use any of his tools :D My neighbor, Hugh, came over for a visit with Heather and he was impressed as well. He's going to make storage for all of the goodies you sent to Heather :D Makes me feel good that I stumped the men that surround me :D

    I love your videos! I am going to use this idea to make storage for my beads (I make jewelry). I have started with this project, but have not cut the grooves yet, kinda nervous. lol! Also, thank you very much for the Sub, you are my first non-family subscriber! WooHoo!!! I hope to get the courage to make jewelry tutorial videos in the future. I am not a good public speaker. But I am going to work up the courage. Anyways, thank you again for posting and for subscribing!

    Wow...I'm impressed. But, I would never have the patience to do all of that. If someone else cut it out, I could put it together....lol. You did a great job on that.

    Thank you :-) These are easy to make and only involve a little bit of math. That was the hardest part of it all :-( Best part is that these are light weight and durable.

    This is great, my daughter asked me to make her a type of storage/shadow box for her collection of pins and this is perfect. The pins are many so I will have to make a couple of this storages, but that will be ok. Thank you for the idea, all I need now is figure oyt how to put on some type of clear acrylic cover so shows the pins and keep them out of dust at the same time, any suggestions?

      Thank you, Naticris, for watching my video and leaving your comment. This ink refill storage piece has tilted spaces. When you make the piece for your daughter, keep the horizontal and vertical pieces straight, not slanted. As for the acrylic cover, that would be as simple as hot gluing a piece of acrylic cut to the size of the units outer edges all the way around. You can hide the hot glue trails behind a decorative frame (hot glued in place) or with some other kind of decoration. I'm sure you will come up with the most beautiful display case EVER!

    Leslie, What a great demonstration I really admire your skill and your patience. I was hoping that you would share a couple of tips. Will the cheap dollar store foam core work? Or do you spend the extra money for the higher quality, denser foam core from the art supply store? And, what kind of metal tape do you use?

    • @messageinafold
      @messageinafold  7 лет назад

      Mary, I will gladly answer your question. If the Dollar Store foam core is not 1/4 inch thick you may want to purchase a couple sets. For the back, sides, top and bottom of the structure use double pieces for strength. Since everything in the inside will be supported by each other you can use single thicknesses. The metal tape I used is from my local big box hardware store - Lowe's. You can get it from any hardware store. Ask your hardware store people where to find the metal duct tape.
      The tape I used is truly metal and will cut you if you are not careful. It is used around furnace duct work where the joints meet to keep the warm and cool are from heating and cooling the outside :D The hardware store people will lead you to the right stuff. The cost is around $6. I made three of these foam core board storage units and still have a lot of the metal tape left.
      You can do so much with that metal tape in your creative space. Run it through your die cutting machines. Don't know if you can use it on your Cricut or electronic cutting machines if you have them. You can even run it through your embossing folders to create some awesome things with it.
      Mary, I appreciate you very much.
