Actually in some Latin country's exist a movie genre call "Realismo magico", in this type of movies magic happen without explanation cuz it's just part of the world, like instead of focusing more in the family than the magic, it's pretty normal to have story's with magics events without explanation
I mean, lots of movies, especially Disney movies, don't give explanations for their magic! The Incredibles never explains where supers came from. Tangled doesn't explain how it's possible for a drop of sunlight to fall from the sky or why it created a flower of all things. In Frozen, Elsa just inexplicably has ice magic. So a miracle imbuing a candle with power isn't that weird.
The reason I think Mirabel doesn’t have powers is because as you noticed in the movie when Abuela talks about Pedro and how he “sent” her Mirabel. I think he noticed how Abuela was still grieving over her husband and putting all of that generational trauma over her children that Mirabel would be the one to break that pattern. Since Mirabel didn’t hold the same expectations as the other members of her family she was able to see the cracks and insecurities each family member.
I do love that this film explores generational trauma! It’s a topic that I feel is rarely explored in movies, so to have it in a Disney Classic is excellent!!

She it taking more and more onto herself while also taking more and more on for her family in the name of herself and her husband, the Gift be it sentient or controlled by a god or her dead husband realized Abuela wouldn't live forever so needed someone new to transfer the power of the miracle to. At first, I thought the flower power was the most useless, but after seeing the damage it did to mariano’s nose and someone did a fan drawing of her with cactus gloves I realized how useful it is in combat...so yah, flower powers!

Essentially the magic of the movie is a play on a Colombian genre called magical realism where realistic stories have to have just a random element of magic in them. This is the inverse where the magic is the prominent feature with a touch of realism.
Keep in mind that Bruno's power is to tell the future- NOT to answer people's specific questions, NOT to provide solutions to problems. His visions are not 'wrong' because they always happen. I believe he misinterpreted his own vision of mirabel where he claimed it was 'undecided'. What they were seeing in the hologram was two outcomes, both which could come true: the house was destroyed (with Maribel serving as the catalyst of that destruction) and then, the house was put together again as in the end of the movie. When you objectively look at Bruno's visions for what they are (prophecies) there is no plot hole there either.
My theory is that Mirabel is the the gift that Pedro sent which is why Abuela says "he sent me you" and Mirabel's connection to the family is like a mini Abuela when she transfer the candle to the next generation. The door to the Casita is the 'the door' to her gift of family.... now I've gone deep.

Of the two, Mirabel was already family-centric shown by drawings of her sisters on the wall. While Camilo likely was already a little bit chameleon-theatre kid in the making. Also, I think it shows Mirabel as the new family foundation with casita waving and then her waving back the same way it showed with Abuela in the beginning. Plus some of the first words of the last song were, "We need a new foundation" and the last was Mirabel saying, "me".

The biggest plot hole I know of is a literal hole. How did Mirabel get back across the chasm in Bruno's room when she was leaving with the visions? YOLO and hope the sand would cushion her fall? There was no way she was reaching the rope she used to get across to get in, and nothing on that side to use as a rope.

she didn't get her powers because she is supposed to be the next matriarch when abuela is gone. Also there is a theory going around that Mirable touched her dress right after touching the candle and then touched the door, unlike Antonio who straight away touches the door after the he touched the candle and so Mirabel becomes the gift the family needed.

The whole soundtrack is inspired by latin american music/genres, and Luisa's song has Reggaeton elements (like how "We don't talk about Bruno" is Salsa, and Isabela's song is 90s latin rock). You just seem unfamiliar with those genres so I can see how you would make that mistake. "No one's clapping!" Ummm...you could clearly hear applause in the background right before Isabela says that. Also as others have said, the movie takes inspiration from Magical Realism, in which magic stuff just happens without explanation and is just accepted. The most popular example of this is in the Colombian nobel prize winning novel "100 years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, so the lack of explanation isn't a plot hole!
It's speculated that since Mirabel doesn't have a Gift, she'll become the next matriarch, specifically in charge of the candle(if theres a new one?), the source of the miracle and representation of family(it's Pedro and Abuela's wedding candle btw). I just watched encanto and I was pleasantly surprised! Some parts like the scene of abuela losing her husband and mirabel not getting her gift actually got me very emotional! Mirabel was a great lead character and the characters were amazing and hilarious! I don't think there was necessarily a 'weak character' as we got a lot from each of them! Also the fact the Magic came from the candle makes me think of the sundrop flower in tangled And the soundtrack was awesome! 🔥 🔥 🔥 I can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of the other 59 disney movies! 😉 😁 😅

The reason she doesn't have powers is because only a Madrigal with no gift has the right perception of each member of the family not clouded by what they could do. Her relying only on the person she is gave her sensitiveness to be close to everyone, starting with "Casita", the house that everyone commands, but only she truly listens. Similarly, with every family member she is truly capable to connect and to find a way to unite only through her amazing personality. It is unlikely that she would have done that with a flashy gift to distract her, and the "Encanto" probably knew this. She is very similar to Abuela Alma, that doesn't have a gift but knows exactly what to do and how to run things. From this and some other clues (like the final door) it is implied that Mirabel is gonna become the next family leader... One whose gift is, similarly to Abuela, her all self as a person (all of me), which is not just enough but exactly what the family needs.
Heeeey! It's drunk-o again, watching more of y'all's wonderful content!I think that Mirabel is her Abuela's successor--neither of them have powers, but both were sources of the miracle. Abuela's miracle was wrought by grief, pain, tragedy and sacrifice; but she lost sight of what really mattered once she started seeing & judging her family solely on their gifts, rather than as people. Mirabel suffered as well, but the source of her miracle came from her reaching out to her family & truly understanding them as humans who felt restricted by their gifts. She also finds a new level of understanding & compassion with Abuela, too, and thus bridges the disconnect (or "cracks") that had been building within the family. The house was rebuilt--as a family & community--with stronger foundations based on love & understanding, rather than magic, which was made possible by Mirabel. So she's the new Abuela, and both of Bruno's visions came true! I feel like Isabella resented Mirabel for being giftless--with those gifts come extra expectations & burdens, right? She probably assumed Mirabel had more freedom & felt less pressure, so she's actually secretly jealous. The vision of Mirabel hugging her sister was another clue that she had to truly reach out & discover what was important, thus fixing the breach (another set of "cracks") that had kept them at odds. Surface pressure is my favourite song! I love all of them as they're all such bops! But surface pressure was so relatable for me personally and I got so emotional when I first heard it! I'm 30 and I haven't stopped playing the soundtrack in my car 😂😅 singing to all the songs as I drive.
My favorite always has been all of you I think it is because of the same reason this movie instantly became my favorite. Neither Abuela or Mirabel have powers, and I think there's a reason for that. I think the family needs someone able to (in theory) see the bigger picture. Abuela didn't do that so well, but Mirabel does. She doesn't have a gift, she is a gift. Also, I want the flower power. Fresh squeezed orange juice every day, flowers at will, grow a cactus under the backside of someone pissing me off.
I am not the best cook ever but I have always wanted the ability to heal others so I'd pick the ability to heal people with a meal. Maybe then my kid would eat her dinner.
Not a plot hole... Think about the family as an orchestra... all the members have special gifts (play different instruments)... In the beginning all playing in 3/4 (triplets, the family rhythm) and Abuela (who also has no gift herself... i.e. plays no instrument herself) is the conductor... the one in charge... But not only is she getting old and nearing the end of her life... but in the pursuit of perfection because of fear of losing the home a second time she was 'conducting' the family towards a different rhythm (shifting the family rhythm to 4/4... the perfect harmony)... All songs/lines for all characters are in 4/4... except all Mirabel’s songs/lines... and the last song where they all find themself in true harmony again... which are in 3/4... So the family (represented by the casita) needed a new conductor to take over and bring harmony back into the family... back to the true family 3/4 rhythm... Enter Mirabel... no power... but with the power to take over from Abuela and bring the family back to their true harmony at peace with themselves and lead them securely into the future...

It's speculated that since Mirabel doesn't have a Gift, she'll become the next matriarch, specifically in charge of the candle(if theres a new one?), the source of the miracle and representation of family(it's Pedro and Abuela's wedding candle btw). Also, Mirabel's door is the front door, and shows EVERYONE on it, even Agustin and Felix.

I just watched encanto and I was pleasantly surprised! Some parts like the scene of abuela losing her husband and mirabel not getting her gift actually got me very emotional! Mirabel was a great lead character and the characters were amazing and hilarious! I don't think there was necessarily a 'weak character' as we got a lot from each of them!
Also the fact the Magic came from the candle makes me think of the sundrop flower in tangled
And the soundtrack was awesome! 🔥 🔥 🔥

The reason she doesn't have powers is because only a Madrigal with no gift has the right perception of each member of the family not clouded by what they could do. Her relying only on the person she is gave her sensitiveness to be close to everyone, starting with "Casita", the house that everyone commands, but only she truly listens. Similarly, with every family member she is truly capable to connect and to find a way to unite only through her amazing personality. It is unlikely that she would have done that with a flashy gift to distract her, and the "Encanto" probably knew this. She is very similar to Abuela Alma, that doesn't have a gift but knows exactly what to do and how to run things. From this and some other clues (like the final door) it is implied that Mirabel is gonna become the next family leader... One whose gift is, similarly to Abuela, her all self as a person (all of me), which is not just enough but exactly what the family needs.
Heeeey! It's drunk-o again, watching more of y'all's wonderful content!I think that Mirabel is her Abuela's successor--neither of them have powers, but both were sources of the miracle. Abuela's miracle was wrought by grief, pain, tragedy and sacrifice; but she lost sight of what really mattered once she started seeing & judging her family solely on their gifts, rather than as people.
Mirabel suffered as well, but the source of her miracle came from her reaching out to her family & truly understanding them as humans who felt restricted by their gifts. She also finds a new level of understanding & compassion with Abuela, too, and thus bridges the disconnect (or "cracks") that had been building within the family. The house was rebuilt--as a family & community--with stronger foundations based on love & understanding, rather than magic, which was made possible by Mirabel.
So she's the new Abuela, and both of Bruno's visions came true!
I feel like Isabella resented Mirabel for being giftless--with those gifts come extra expectations & burdens, right? She probably assumed Mirabel had more freedom & felt less pressure, so she's actually secretly jealous. The vision of Mirabel hugging her sister was another clue that she had to truly reach out & discover what was important, thus fixing the breach (another set of "cracks") that had kept them at odds.

Surface pressure is my favourite song! I love all of them as they're all such bops! But surface pressure was so relatable for me personally and I got so emotional when I first heard it! I'm 30 and I haven't stopped playing the soundtrack in my car 😂😅 singing to all the songs as I drive.
My favorite always has been all of you I think it is because of the same reason this movie instantly became my favorite. It's about the relationship within the group not only of the family accepting themselves and each other but of them realizing not only can the town rely on them but they can rely or lean on the town

Neither Abuela or Mirabel have powers, and I think there's a reason for that. I think the family needs someone able to (in theory) see the bigger picture. Abuela didn't do that so well, but Mirabel does. She doesn't have a gift, she is a gift. Also, I want the flower power. Fresh squeezed orange juice every day, flowers at will, grow a cactus under the backside of someone pissing me off.
I am not the best cook ever but I have always wanted the ability to heal others so I'd pick the ability to heal people with a meal.
Maybe then my kid would eat her dinner.

Think about the family as an orchestra... all the members have special gifts (play different instruments)...
In the beginning all playing in 3/4 (triplets, the family rhythm) and Abuela (who also has no gift herself... i.e. plays no instrument herself) is the conductor... the one in charge...
But not only is she getting old and nearing the end of her life... but in the pursuit of perfection because of fear of losing the home a second time she was 'conducting' the family towards a different rhythm (shifting the family rhythm to 4/4... the perfect harmony)...
All songs/lines for all characters are in 4/4... except all Mirabel’s songs/lines... and the last song where they all find themself in true harmony again... which are in 3/4...
So the family (represented by the casita) needed a new conductor to take over and bring harmony back into the family... back to the true family 3/4 rhythm...
Enter Mirabel... no power... but with the power to take over from Abuela and bring the family back to their true harmony at peace with themselves and lead them securely into the future...
