I just watched you set and style your hair. I cried and cried. I used to set my mom's hair every week or so, I lost my mom 8 years ago and this triggered so many memories. wish I could do it just once more. thank you for the lovely video. you are such a beautiful girl. thank you
I know this is an old video but I am so sorry to hear about your mother as well. I was pretty emotional about mine this Memorial Day weekend. Hope you are well
Reminds me of the way my Mom used to roll my hair when I was younger, and me to hers also. She was a beautician and had her own shop. These are the exact type rollers and same way we rolled hair. She has passed now, but I wish I could have one more time to do her hair. She loved it, after she did other people's hair all week. Your hair looked beautiful when completed. You are a lovely woman and great instructor. God Bless and thank you for taking time to do these tutorials.
Thank you soooo much! I only get Dominican roller sets. I've never been very good at setting my own hair. COVID shutdowns are forcing me to do it and I feel much more confident after watching your videos. You're GORGEOUS and an awesome teacher:)
First time I got this technique done to me I was 14 years old by a Dominican hair salon in Perth amboy New Jersey. Loved it ever since and never found anyone else who did it the same way. I'm going to be 30 this year so that's 16 years.
Thanks for sharing the hair product and styling tools you use. I appreciate even more how you explain the styling techniques and the reasons why you use them. You're truly gifted in your craft.
Johanna, this us exactly how I wear my hair! After cutting it all of the time, I'll grow it out! Thanks for the tip with the Blow Drying & Moroccan Oil! Great technique! 👍⭐👍💇
wow!you did a great job !my hair texture is like yours, you really helped me with your demo. Thank you so much:)by the way ,I really like using silk infusion on my hair before blow drying it,it makes it shiny and it smells great.
Thank you so much for sharing the at home tutorial! Especially now with the pinche rona going on, it's a struggle trying to get your hair nice n sleek when it's naturally all over the place haha. I'm Black and Mexican from Arizona, so I'm JUST BARELY finding out there's been Dominicans out there who know how to deal with my mixed hair! The main thing I'm trying to do is this roller set technique, because I HATE blow drying my hair. I've never been able to get it right! My hair always ends up all over the place and big and frizzy and just unmanageable. My question for anyone who could answer is, how could I do a roller set, to get the nice smooth bouncy curls and volume, but still have nice smooth roots like when they're flat ironed. And would those @home air frying contraptions actually work for this at home if you don't have one of the fancy chair dryers??? Somebody help a sista out!!!!
Thank you sooo much. I wasn't sure what prep product I should've used. Moroccan oil truly is amazing. I was thinking of getting a salon quality smoothing cream as a prep, but not sure which products Dominican are using for their blowouts. 🤣 I was checking out Salerm cosmetics but it's all about actually permanently straightening the hair cuticle (which I wouldn't want: I'm just hoping to prep for a style).
I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I learned so much from your channel, because your a professional I can do my hair correctly and safe.
if ur licensed buy olaplex, it's a bond builder, and do a treatment(i thought of this when u said your hair was dry)... and also use it whenever u bleach or color your hair!! it is absolutely amazing!!
Johanna or Miss Netta, Pls tell us more about Olaplex. Im not a licensed hair stylist but I shop at a beauty supply shop. Could I buy it there? Do I need special training to use it?
Don't know what happened to me but that stuff made my hair literally as hard as a rock with a relaxer and I could not do anything with it. Ended up at a beauty school with the teachers puzzled and trying to help me to make it combable.
Wow. Just discovered your videos. They are wonderful--so many great tips. I especially like how you share the products you've had success with and also how you stress moisturizing the hair. I've got to check out all of your videos now.
I'm so glad you did this video. Thx! I'm still working on the roller set it's kind of tricky but I'm getting better at it! I might buy that same hooded dryer That the Dominican salons use to make your hair dry faster . Can't wait to see more videos! Btw I love the variety of your videos.
@@JohannaSalon hi this video has helped me so much and I’m excited to try rollers on my daughter. Definitely gave me the confidence to try. Can I ask what hooded dryer would you recommend for at home use. My daughter has full long coiled curly hair and I know her rollers would be on the bigger side.
Thanks for the video..I've been getting my hair done for years and always wanted to know how to do a roller set and honestly I dont be having the money to get my hair done the time.. and again thanks for the video
I’m Mexican and my Tia used to straighten (sort of) my hair with 1 3/4 in rollers. My hair is damaged. How do the rollers look with natural air? At least how many hours do I need to leave them on to use natural hair dry? You look so pretty. I thought you looked great with just the rollers too. Thank you for video and tips. Is there a reason you use magnetic rollers?
Thank you so much for the video! I started using the Dominican roller set method and it definitely does not damages the hair than a traditional blow out. The only issue I have is I get roller marks when I take off the rollers. Do you have any suggestions on how to get rid of the roller marks? Would I just use the blow dryer?
Is the type of blow dryer vital for those type of results? I have a Revlon dryer with a concentrated tip like that but your dryer looks more powerful lol
@johanna salon. Replace your shine oil with a HEAT PROTECTANT SERUM. You will get that shine and protection with out COOKING your hair with the oil and blow dryer.
nice do you still have a shop im from the Bronx where are you.. I live in Syracuse new York now but I go home every now and then would be nice to stop by your shop.
I finally put myself to the test after watching ur videos Johanna omg thank you never thought I could do it my own but yes I can now thanks 2 u please give us new hair content
Ok so tell me this... because I'm against Heat at this point in my life🙅; is it safe to say that if I want to use the tatara abuela technique and let my roller-set (SELF DRY) by staying home, doing chores, minus - making appearances at the grocery store lol😄 will I obtain the same results??? Great Job👏
When you did the roller set, do you also spray the hair already in the rollers or just only focus on the loose hair? Also, will your hair come out nice without putting it under the dryer after the roller set??
Hi Alana.. Thanks for the question, if you dot go under the dryer, your hair might come out a bit more frizzy. the heat from the dryer seals the products in the hair and eliminate frizz. What do you mean about spray the hair already in rollers?
+Johanna Salon oooooohh okay thank you! And I meant how you were spraying the loose hair with water to keep it smooth and wet when applying the rollers. My question was when you're spraying the loose hair with water, do you also spray the sections of hair already in the rollers too?
+Janelli Marie Hi. I can recommend this one that I use. It is on the pricier side but works really well. This is an affiliate link, if you want to use it. amzn.to/1pA6wP5 I also looked up another less expensive one that I used previously. amzn.to/1pbqak7
Hiya Johanna! I've recently come across this roller set and was wondering if there was a certain type of roller you use? I've heard people refer to one called 'east African roller'?xx
Hello Johanna , I really like all your videos. You give great information step by step . I bought some the products you shared about . I looking to buy the twin turbo blower however, do you know if the ones sold on Amazon are authentic. Or where can I purchase it . Thank you so much I am glad I found you on RUclips 😀
Hi Thank you so much. I would read the reviews from the seller first. They should be authentic, if not you can always call amazon. Their customer service is great.
If the dryer is really hot doesn’t that cause heat damage? I usually wait an hour or so before sitting under a warm dryer letting my hair mostly air dry first.
Great video! I would love to see more videos about how you style your rollerset hair! Once I've finished rollersetting I just wrap it and usually wear my hair up.
Omggg either my driver stinks or my hair is too thick (its bra strap length) I have to sit under the drier for 2 hours! I get my airplane blanket and neck pillow and go to sleep lol
I am trying to help my daughter with her color processed hair. She has coarse, wavy, thick hair it is waist length and no matter what product we use her hair remains fuzzy. We use matrix colorfast shampoo and conditioner we leave argon oil after blow drying. After all that, we still end up having to flat iron. My worry is the damage that is happening to her hair- she has her hair deep conditioned after foiling approximately every 10 weeks. How can we make the process easier for her? She shampoos once to twice weekly. My wife and I appreciate any advice
How can you tell if your hair is dry before pulling the rollers out? I feel like I stay in for an hour or more and I pull out the rollers and the ends are damp.
Hi!! Is your hair really long? That can be a factor as well. After about 20 minutes i loosen the rollers out a bit to let the heat go onto the mid lengths and ends. Hope this helps.
But what is the Use of Roller setting Taking out the Rollers blow drying in the Heat Cooling down the Hair and Then Blow Drying in Heat.I Just get the Sense of it.😅

Do a roller set and make the roller really tight. I have a video on it that will explain it better. You can also blow dry the roots slightly
Amazing video. I have researched a lot how to do it correctly, and I think your tutorial is actually the best one out there :) Thank you :)
Thank you sooo much. I wasn't sure what prep product I should've used. Moroccan oil truly is amazing. Your hair looks fabulous in them big curls it looks good both ways
Amazing. I'm totally gonna try this

But I wonder if it breaks the hair ?
@johanna salon. Replace your shine oil with a HEAT PROTECTANT SERUM. You will get that shine and protection with out COOKING your hair with the oil and blow dryer.
Beautiful what brush you are using .?. The name.?.
Yes I love morrocan oil too
nice do you still have a shop im from the Bronx where are you.. I live in Syracuse new York now but I go home every now and then would be nice to stop by your shop.
Cuál cepillo tú recomiendas? La marca?
Tried to do the roller set twice but my curling hair is sooo..stubborn. Came out a hot mess.
Lol.....
Try sectioning in smaller portions ;)
Hi beautiful what secador brand do you use to dry the rollers?
You did a great job
New Subbie from Philly pa!!!
Thank you for your tips!
One question. Since you live in ny, how do you keep your hair so straight in the humid climate ?
Lol. Its only humid in ny in July and August unfortunately. In the summer, I wash my hair often bc its so hot and probably dry it once every 2 weeks.
Hi where did you buy that brush
loved the video, do you ever wear your hair in updos? I was wondering if you have considered creating updo videos....

You remind me of Sunkissalba a bit😊
Stina_ McClure omg definitely! The voice and slight Dominican accent
When you did the roller set, do you also spray the hair already in the rollers or just only focus on the loose hair?

It’s the ion goldenwood round brush. Sallys beauty sells them (it’s their brand, I think)
Do you have a recommendation for a personal sit under hairdryer for the home for when you have big rollers in your hair?

Hiya Johanna! I've recently come across this roller set and was wondering if there was a certain type of roller you use? I've heard people refer to one called 'east African roller'?xx
I use the regular plastic rollers. You can buy them at any beauty supply store.
Could you use Any size rollers to do this ?

If the dryer is really hot doesn’t that cause heat damage? I usually wait an hour or so before sitting under a warm dryer letting my hair mostly air dry first.
Indirect heat so no
What's the name of the brush you blow dry with again ?
It’s the ion goldenwood round brush. Sallys beauty sells them (it’s their brand, I think)
I learned a lot from your hairs lovely 😊. I enjoyed.
Great video! I would love to see more videos about how you style your rollerset hair!
Once I've finished rollersetting I just wrap it and usually wear my hair up.
I am doing a Q &A video. I will add some ideas on how to style your hair on there.

*THIS IS AWESOME*
But what is the Use of Roller setting Taking out the Rollers blow drying in the Heat Cooling down the Hair and Then Blow Drying in Heat.I Just get the Sense of it.😅
Great video very informative.
what's the blow dryer you used on your roller set? 😊
Hi! The blower is a Turbo Power 2800 and the hair dryer for the roller set is a pibbs hood dryer
why not just silk rap after the roller set . ??? just curious because it's easier by doing a rap and set instead of using more heat ?? it's pretty tho
I do it like that, after i finish drying my hair with the rollers, I don't blow it out, I just wrap it up and it gives you a beautiful style, just that you have to make sure you moisturize your hair well, it tends to get freeze if you have damaged or very dry hair type.
It’s more voluminous and the roots aren’t straight after the roller set
very nice, keep up the good work...
Do you have your own salon in Brooklyn?
What dryer do you use?
Hi how do you add the soft curls to the blowout?
Just blowdry the roots ;)
Amazingggg!
Yes I like it.
Love Ur videos
