    Kim would have frozen up there in NW IL last night. A warm -1F with wind chills of -8 or so. I was running around with 2 sweat shirts / stocking hat. Now I cheated and warmed the car up for about 5 minutes. Wasn't to bad for us Yankee's. Even saw a guy in shorts walking out to his truck. (really - he works in a hot molding plant) Take care - Spin (thanks for the video guys)

    Wow. This one was close to home for me. I'm from Baytown originally and used to drive by that airport all the time. I started my PPL 21 plus years ago and took off and landed at that runway. Didn't finish it then but am currently working to finally finish.

    The Baytown Buc-ee's is pretty nice. I've stopped there a few gillion times on my way to Anahuac NWR and south Louisiana. I haven't made it to the airport there yet. On a happy note, the instructor I rent from is trying to get an IFR trainer. I can finally get started on finishing my instrument rating if he gets it.

    44°F way above the clouds! We haven't had temps that warm on the ground for a week, lol! :D Got up to 26° for the high yesterday.
    Great shots of the breakout, and the lights coming in! That rear camera seems to pick up the lighting a little clearer - looked AMAZING! Never seen that in person, except driving into Las Vegas at night one time a couple decades back. About as close as I could get to that sight picture.
    Kudos to Kim for taking the 2 assaults caught on camera with stride. :D :D :D
    Hope you guys make that air park home thing happen!! That's my dream. Will never happen for me, but I'll live vicariously through you guys. What an awesome life you will have there! No more hangar fees, and HUGE convenience! I'm hoping some day when the mortgage is paid off to get some rotorcraft training, then build a Mosquito helicopter so I can turn my land into my own little airpark. That would be sweet! Could go visit my dad without any road rage, lol! That would be a first! Commuting without swearing! :)

I would appreciate a bit lower volume on the introduction music, as it made the clearance you were getting very hard to hear. I did, however, very much appreciate you're getting the IFR clearance via phone on the ground, and the call back for release once you were ready to go. Don't see that often myself. I enjoy your videos a lot, I pick up little tidbits on IFR flight! If you like a variety of weather conditions you should check out Alpine Airpark 46U near the Tetons mountains of Wyoming! But after watching this video, maybe not, you must like cold weather and LOTS of snow which clearly you do not! LOL I am a new IFR pilot so quick question if you have time. I noticed on this video you got a SID and a STAR but it seems like you and other pilot's videos I view seem to never follow them. it seems you get vectors to en route and same into the terminal area. I have not done a STAR or SID yet but I know one of these days I will and would like to know the real world on what usually happens vs book information. Why do they give you STAR's and SID's if you are not going to fly them??? Maybe they did and it wasn't included in the video?? Keep those videos coming and thanks for showing more than just the flight!

    • @timsaxer6442
      @timsaxer6442 3 года назад

      @Roger Parker. SID's and STAR's are issued so everyone has a plan in the event of lost comm's. They also help reduce radio time.

    • @Cessna_182
      @Cessna_182 3 года назад

      @@timsaxer6442 Ahhhh, I understand the reduction of radio time but never thought about loss comm's. So, for the most part, you will probably be vectored but if you did lose comms you would have a route to follow, makes perfect sense! Is it better to add the SID and STAR to your flight plan before submitting it or always let ATC assign it when receiving the flight plan?

    • @timsaxer6442
      @timsaxer6442 3 года назад

      @@Cessna_182 No simple answer for all situations. Low performance aircraft may not be able to meet the altitude/climb gradients required. Pilot may not have the published procedures onboard. As I recall, they are not mandatory and I recall several times adding in remarks box of flight plan the words "no sids/stars", meaning I didn't want to, or could not, deal with them. The down side is it may be more difficult for ATC to work you into the traffic flow. The up side is you can program your departure or arrival into your nav system while on the ground or during cruise, respectively. SID's/STAR's are a great timesaver on both sides, use them when you can.
