Meet 28 year-old María Ofelia who for the last 20 years has been living and working in a trash dump - witnessing the growth of plastic pollution hidden at the bottom of Santa Maria volcano in Guatemala.
We came across her story when gaining access to this trash dump and was shocked to see the desperate conditions she was working in with her three young children. Landfills create dangerous gasses like methane, and with the rise in plastic, decomposition is far from reach.
Upon investigating it was clear this had become a life she did not intend for, and we offered to provide her with the right support that could hopefully change her life.

My heart hurts so much right now
In Guatemala about 2 years ago I got to see with my own eyes a kid digging threw piles and piles of garbage with what seem to be either his dad or grandpa. I asked the older man what they were doing and he told me, “looking for anything to survive. Food, clothing, shoes, anything.” After I continued my exploring in Guatemala seeing that and hearing that could not leave my head. Up to this day I always remember.
I’m glad to see this video on here for people around the world can see and maybe have a little more appreciation for what they have. I certainly have learned to appreciate everything in my life ever since I went to Guatemala. It really opened my eyes and heart.
I really love that you guys bring these situations to light and are helping these people out, I find it mind blowing how there’s RUclips accounts that upload stupid shit and get millions of subscribers and attention when these are the channels that really deserve it and are actually doing something

I'm from here, I've lived there for the first 5 years of my life. Pure hell, pure torture. Some of these kids are living with abuse, surrounded by drugs, ect. At age 6 I was only 25 pounds. Worst conditions you can think of. So grateful that I got adopted into a loving family. Now 28, married with 2 beautiful boys. ❤️
As a guatemalan, I know it’s hard for her. I know the struggles she’s going through. I can feel her pain and sorrow through the screen. It breaks my heart. I was lucky enough to be able to actually be born in the U.S. and have a good life. I want to be able to change peoples lives in Guatemala. I’m determined to help them. Everyone there. It's absolutely insane with the wealth of this world that any human should have to live like this. It's embarrassing. We are so fortunate even in the "hardest" of times.

When I was born my parents were almost as poor as them.
Now I am in college and we have a decent house. Can you guess how I got up to this point?
My father migrated to the States.
Motherhood should not be glorified this much that people loose sense.
Instead of one miserable life, there are now 4 of them.
Having children when conditions are so bad is a foolish mistake and coming generations will have to keep paying for this mistake.

Her situation sucks but Guatemala has improved drastically in terms of extreme poverty especially over the last 2 decades. She said she makes 100 quetzals which is a little over $10 dollars. Consider 15 years ago almost half of the country was living less than a $1.50 a day. Now I think it’s under 5%. Changes are coming and hopefully one day the country will be in the state all countries should be in so there is no need to immigrant or live like this.

If I even had money, I'd build her a house. It I had all the money I could wish for. I would use it to help people in need, not on my own use. To buy food, laundry, water, necessities for people. its my goal until the day I die. To give over 1,000 operation Christmas child boxes. So far, 3% of that has been completed. Only 997 to go, I will have hopefully 4 going out this year. When I turn 18 I plan to get a job and set aside a paycheck for my parents then take another paycheck and spend it on things for the homeless.. To donate to the poor and hungy.
