The power supply is external, but is supplied with radio (FT2000D). I can't comment on the other radio as i have never owned one. Check out eham for a lot of reviews on all types of ham gear.

I didn't, but it is an easy mod, apparently you just bridge two points with a blob of solder. There are mods on the net somewhere.
