      @Willie Gordon You have listed Some of the best Mysteries and Who Done It's, all good stuff.. My Film and TV selections are quite eclectic, but Comedy is actually King in my world. Would not be so snide w/ the if you don't like don't watch ..What you chose to watch is .. well, your choice and, how is one to know if they like it w/o watching?
      Here's an oldie with some higher humor, never know, you may just like it.

    This is a certain type of film that was made in the 1930's, and it has to be one of the best of the lot. There's nothing weak about it, just a perfectly written and beautifully designed movie. Thanks for posting!!

    My first time to see Lew Ayres was in the movie Holiday, and I thought he was fantastic; my first time to see Gail Patrick was in the movie My Man Godfrey, and I thought she was stunning. What a blast to get to see two favorites together!

    • @DavidRice111
      @DavidRice111 2 года назад

      "stunning"? Really? Were you actually STUNNED? C'mon~ that word is so cliché.

    • @hortondlfn1994
      @hortondlfn1994 2 года назад

      @@DavidRice111 Well, as you see, I said nothing about MY being stunned. I merely observed that I thought she was stunning - what or whom she was stunning is beyond my capacity to say. It would be highly presumptuous of me to even try.
      In the meantime, though, yes, I suppose I must confess that I was actually STUNNED when I first saw Gail Patrick. It is possible I drooled for close to five minutes. And, while some may claim that such droolery was more the result of being gobsmacked and not so much stunned, since I didn't know the word "gobsmacked" at the time that it happened, I think it is safe to say I was stunned.
      (By the way, "C'mon" is so overused as to be considered trite and fripperish.)

    Lew Ayres (1908 - 1996) who plays Kent Murdoch had a prolific career spanning sixty five years - his first movie, The Sophomore was in 1929 and his last, a TV movie, was Hart to Hart:Crimes of the Heart (1994) starring Robert Wagner. He was never in the first rank of Hollywood film royalty but had a very successful career with a highlight being his Oscar nomination for Best Actor in 1948 in Johnny Belinda- his co-star Jane Wyman (1917 - 2007) won the Best Actress Oscar. She was Ronald Reagan's first wife and they divorced the year this film was made. Ayres came to prominence playing the lead in the original version of All Quiet On The Western Front (1930) which won Oscars for Best Production and Best Director and which scored him a contract with Universal. This role led him to be a conscientious objector in World War Two which almost cost him his career until it was revealed that he had served with distinction as a combat medic. His movies in the 1930s were mostly B grade but still reasonably successful. MGM put him under contract to play Dr James Kildare in nine films from 1938 to 1942. He gradually moved into TV and was again offered the Dr Kildare role by NBC but he refused because his request that there be no cigarette advertising during the screening of the show was refused. In 1961, that role went to Richard Chamberlain (now 86, 2020) which ran for 191 episodes from 1961 to 1966 and made him a star. Ayres won a Golden Globe Award in 1977 for Best Documentary. This film was a minor B grade feature.

      Olivia De Havilland should of won for the best actress prize in 1948, for her heart rendering performance on the Snake Pit. Belinda was not as good as the Snake Pit, which is a glorified soap opera. WaRners may have had a bigger voting power for the academy in 1948.

      Although she had very little artistic training, her versatility impressed Howard Greer, the chief costume designer, who hired her immediatelyAmy Fine Collins reported that the designer "obstinately refused to talk about her background except in the vaguest of terms.However, since she definitely had graduated from college, married, divorced, and worked as a teacher for several years by 1923, the later birthdates are not possible. Even her family name is uncertain; Head was the name of her first husband.. It was only after she had taken the job, which paid $50 per week (double her teacher's salary), that Head confessed she had "borrowed" this work from other art school students.

The U.S. dollar experienced an average inflation rate of 3.55% per year during this period, causing the real value of a dollar to decrease. $1 in 1936 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $18.73 in 2020, a difference of $17.73 over 84 years.
