    Writing on chalkboard and paper
    Age:4
    Material:
    A box containing a few objects, the names of which are phonetic. Pencil & slips of paper. Printed labels.
    Presentation: (Association Montessori Internationale Version)
    Invite a child to the language area
    Acknowledge the child by saying: “You have been working with these: metal insets, sandpaper letters,etc…”
    Introduce the activity
    Show the child how to carry the material
    Bring the materials (the tray and the basket) the guide bring: the guide’s writing basket to the table and sit down
    Tell the child the basket is belong to the guide
    Place the metal tray in front of the child
    Take out the objects out one at the time from the tray and named the objects
    After two or three objects, invite the child to take out the rest of the objects
    Place the objects on the table in 2 vertical columns, with space in between
    Show the child that in the little bag is for him to work by himself, to work later.
    Engage the child with a story,:”I have been asking you something these past days, this time you are going to read my mind
    Take out the protector, pencil holder , a piece of paper and pencil holder from the guide basket
    Let the child know that: I am thinking about one of the object and this time i am not going to tell you and you are going to read your mind about an object”
    Put the paper on the protector and write (in cursive) an object’s name, ex :”pan”,
    Use the scissor and Cut the word paper
    Fold the paper and place it in front of the child
    Ask the child to sound out the letters to analyze the word, The child will start sounding the letter and the guide will say “faster” “faster”… until he can say the word
    Have the child place the piece of paper next to the corresponding object
    Repeat the same with all the objects
    When done
    Mix the papers and the objects
    Ask the child to take one paper at the time, analyze it (sound the letters/read) and place them on corresponding objects.
    When done, take all the papers and throw them away
    Invite the child to open the little bag, take out the printed labels
    Invite the child work the same way with the printed labels as the same manner
    Let the child know when he finish, he has to clean up
    Leave the child to work by himself
    As soon as he finish, invite him to repeat or work with the next material
    Note:
    Make the children interest in reading, example: when you walk around the environment and see a signs or read a book, sound the letter
    Make the children see you enjoy reading
    Following Exercise:
    Mix the printed labels, place the labels in two columns, match the object to the labels
    Direct Purpose:
    To help the child realize that the written words are a group of sounds represented by the graphic symbols and the word has a meaning
    Give the child the idea that reading is silence communication
