I was almost in the middle of this storm. I was on my way to Chicago to visit my brother and I was planning on playing golf just 2 hours before the storm hit. I drove through what I just found out was a gustnado and then pulled over to the side of the road in order to NOT be in the middle of the bow echo. I have never been more scared in my entire lifetime. But, I learned a valuable life lesson... enjoy every moment as you truly never know when its going to be the last!
I was working in West Chicago when this baby slammed into us. It shattered the rear windshield of a new Toyota Yaris and damaged 63 other new vehicles causing surface damage to the paint. It blew over a portable chemical toilet and moved it 100'. We definietly had Hurrcane force winds that day! Was pretty intense!
@Venturi01 Just looked it up. A bow echo is a term describing the characteristic radar return from a mesoscale convective system that is shaped like an archer’s bow. These systems can produce severe straight-line winds and occasionally tornadoes, causing major damage.
Man I was at Dupage airport and 4 of us had JUST gotten back from our flight (we are flight instructors) and we put the planes in the hangar, and then we got slammed with 53 knot winds! It was insane. I loved it! Bunch of us were standing on our ramp facing westbound. Great times!
A second wave ended up marching through there also later that night. I was walking out of Wal-Mart toward the car after the storm finished in Dubuque...right at the car I started feeling this weird pressure behind my right eye...I got in the car and *BAM* there was a strike 500 feet to my left. The pressure feeling went away. Could I have been in the midst of a dangerous high-potential electric field? Scary...
I went to school right around there at NIU. I live in Dubuque, IA now, and when the storm came through Dubuque, it was a whole lotta nothin...disappointing.
The winds were awesome! Though,I was afraid for our neighbors tree. It's already leaning from a tornado a few years ago,and I'm sure one of these days,it's going to get blown over.
yea i was in St. Charles for both systems, lots of trees down on power lines and roads and a few down on houses and cars. Awesome storm though :P and as far as i know no one was hurt
I remember this storm! We were left without power for 4 hours and the wind was horrible. I had to go out into the hallway with a pillow over my head cause we don't have a basement
yea what was scary is that those clouds rolled in quite fast without it fast forwarded becuz i was in the basement for like 1 min and it was still lite when i come back up its all black!
dang. did u speed this up or what? the clouds are traveling pretty fast... and the wind mills O___O; hah. from looking at your neighborhood, im pretty sure u live in the country side (: i wonder how its like :P
Are those wind propellers turned off? They weren't moving in that wind. Seems like they missed an opportunity there.... although I imagine they may have wind speed limits to operate within.
@bookworm1960 nah im to inland for hurricanes and i always wanted to ride one out and chase tornadoes. but ive been in strong thunderstorm winds and blizzards and wind storms that had winds over 70 and never heard that kind of sound. like i heard the wind roar and roll over my head but not like a swirling sound like on the video
@Herdervriend Bow Echos can look cool when you see one coming, but once you've been in one, then you can realize how stromg and destructive they are. I've been through a bow echo/derecho event and you will feel like you are in a hurricane during one.
man this shit was crazy in chicago me=(chasing storms for 13 years) this bow echo was truely a crazy storm my vehicle was destroyed when a 2 ton 300 year old tree fell on it (r.i.p m.c.v) i spotted 3 waterspouts 1. outside downtown Chicago 2. near Loyola (again) 3. near southern point of downtown
great thing i live in dupage county or it would be hell it kinda was anyway the wind blew my window frame out when i was standing right next to the window it was pretty scary great thing im only a neighbor to dekalb
@CER73197 haha, that was my dad he was like HOLY SHIT WE GOTTA GET THE FUCK OUTTA HERE and im like, but i wanna stay and then i saw the car and i said Hey that guy is from TornadoVideosDotNet!!

It's so wierd seeing wind like that without hardly any rain initially involved
Love the sound of that wind :)
I experienced bow echos at least 50 times in my life the main threats are Damaging Winds, Quarter to Golf ball sized hail, and Isolated Tornadoes.

This system just went through Northern Indiana and produced winds at approximately 90 mph in La Porte...

I was in the middle of it but when it hit Oswego and Plainfield. Yeah needless to say it was a fantastic storm!
damn that's some bow echo and yeah what vinciryan said, i mean shit you can actually hear the howl of the wind
@Milwaukee12 yeah itsso stupid, we havent had a good storm all summer, they said we had 10% of tornado tonite, didnt get .1 in inches of rain
Are those wind propellers turned off? They weren't moving in that wind. Seems like they missed an opportunity there.... although I imagine they may have wind speed limits to operate within.
I was at the cubs game this day.
this reminds me of a scene that should be in twister. lol. i love it!
wow! very strong winds indeed, no tornado either. Good thing the Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup parade didn't have to deal with this :P
Lol that dog is like WTF let me in!!
i saw this on radar and was like WTF?!

Very Nice i Love this weather but in Germany is it cold with rain at the moment

@stewiesfan2011 I was trying to figure out the speed of the video by the car. It seemed like it was going fast but the audio confused me.
@JessixoJb It's a time lapse so it's sped up.
were those clouds in the beginning coming in at real time or did you speed up the video?
that is very scary sounding.
It sounded like a freight train was coming through.
