Movie Park Germany is a theme park located near the German town of Bottrop. Everything revolves around the film world in the park. Many attractions and themed areas have also been thematized here. Since the opening in 1996, a lot has changed in the theme park, due to a number of successive acquisitions of the park by various companies.
In 1999, the park was sold to the organization Premier Parks, now better known as Six Flags. Since the licenses were in the hands of Warner Brothers, this did not affect the attractions, shows and characters in the park.
In April 2004, Six Flags sold all of its parks in Europe, leaving the park in the hands of Star Parks, which had licenses from MGM, 20th Century Fox and Nickelodeon. This had major consequences for the park, as this meant that the characters and attractions that had been thematized to the Looney Tunes had to be re-thematized. For example, the Batman Ride simulator was replaced by Time Riders, the darkride Looney Tunes Adventure by Ice Age Adventure and the rapid river Neverending Story by Mystery River. In 2005, the name of the park changed to the current Movie Park Germany.
On 9 January 2007, Movie Park Germany announced that the Wonderland Studios children's area would continue under a different name in the new season [1]. Thanks to the new rights of Paramount Pictures, the attractions in this area were renamed and re-thematized to Nickelodeon's well-known series, the area being given the appropriate name Nickland.
The last takeover of the park took place in May 2010. Then the park was taken over by Parques Reunidos, which is still the owner to date.
On the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the park, a new covered roller coaster (Van Helsing's Factory) was opened in June 2011 in the building where the darkride Gremlins Invasion used to stand.
Deleted attractions:
Since leaving Warner Bros, a number of attractions have been removed or modified. Among other things, the entire Wonderland Studio area has been transformed into Nickland. Below are a number of attractions that have undergone a refurbishment or removal:
Gremlins Invasion, a darkride around the Gremlin films. Now replaced by the Van Helsing's Factory roller coaster.
Studio Tour, a look behind the scenes when making films.
Cop Car Chase, When the park was called Warner Bros. this was the roller coaster Lethal Weapon Pursuit. It was a roller coaster with two inversions, which dueled against each other. Nowadays the theme area Santa Monica Pier is here.
Marvin the Martian, this was a 3D show about the comic hero Marvin the Martian. Later this became Shrek 4D. Meanwhile, the 3D show has been replaced by Ice Age 4D (since April 2011).
Batman Adventure, this was a simulator around the action hero Batman. The attraction has been replaced for Time Riders.
Looney Tunes Adventure, a dark water ride with the Looney Tunes theme. Meanwhile, the attraction has been thematized to the Ice Age films.
Neverending Story, a rapid river with the theme Neverending Story. The rapid river is now called Mystery River.
Josie's Bath House, a Breakdance in the theme area The Old West. To date, this location is empty.
Movie Magic, a demonstration about making feature films in the film world. The attraction was replaced in 2014 by the The Lost Temple simulator.
