      Open minded would mean listening to music on both records and CDs (and even tape if one has the means). There are a humongous number of songs and albums that are not on vinyl or at least never reissued on records since the original releases (going back to the 1920s). So going only with records would mean missing out on a huge selection of music especially if one listens to music from the 1910s to 1940s.

    Hello there again. I'm in to audiophile since 2000. Today I own a digital based system, in which I have a brand new, recently bought network player (playing FLAC), solid state pre + power amp and a pair of Dali speakers. After viewing this video 2 days ago, it got me thinking... and today I decided to buy a turntable. In fact, I just bought it. It's a Rega RP-1, entry line, just to taste. I decided not to spend so much at first, because I don't know what to expect from vinyl after the pacticity of the digital. Well... if it really gives me a more "palpable" soundstage, I will definitely invest more. Well, this is it. Just passing by to thank you for your encouragement. It was because of your video that I joined the analog comunity. Keep feeding us with your material. Probably you don't realize, but you give us plenty of joy with your charisma. Best regards from Brazil.

      Dear Pacato :-) it is okay! I was not keen on vinyl playback for 20 years (between 1994 to 2014)...but once i heard what the rp6 gave at the retailer's store with a humble integrated amp and speaker setup, i know what i have been missing and wrong about vinyl playback. I have always been a digital guy prior to 2014. But it is okay we don't denounce the merits of digital playback, it is just that i find vinyl playback much more involving with the sound quality it exudes and emanates. I love it totally. My mind is totally eased, refreshed, excited, engaged and invigorated all at the same time listening to vinyl playback!
      My whole family now loves it very much since 2014 and we are looking forward to help more and more friends get engaged and appreciate vinyl playback. It is very beautiful, both the sound aspect, and the human aspect. We made lotssss of friends :-D
      Everybody does.
      Let's walk on, spin on and enjoy our analogue playback!
      Thank you very much my friend from Brazil!

      What are your thoughts on the RP1 so far? I have the exact same table myself probably with worse quality speakers and amps however, but I still love it. Keep in mind that if you want a truly analog experience you should look out for records only mastered on analog production chains. Many records today are just digital sources of the CD version pressed onto the analog record medium, giving a not so impressive experience.

    Hello Ian!
    A wonderful message and heartfelt review.
    I too love my RP6! I upgraded from the RP1 a little while ago and I run the RP6 with a Rega Ania MC cart. It sounds lovely 😉
    I opted for the high gloss white as it was the last one the dealer had, I wanted black but I have to say I’ve fallen for it and love the white finish.
    Unfortunately it’s so easy to be dragged into the snobbery of hifi.
    I believe that music is the main component in every setup and that it can be appreciated on any budget.
    Keep up the great work, it’s much appreciated 🙏

    Hi, I already checked some of your video and I come up to this old one.
    I'm came from not a rich family and might not have that struggling but I do understand points you are talking about.
    I started my music journey like 7 years ago. I just gathered my humble small 5.1 system last year and a 2 channel system.
    My main source was an entry level yamaha cds 300 I got some old CD from my home and some from Japan trips.
    And now I am about to put my quote last big investing, I am going for a Rega P6 Ania and Fono Mc. I just started fresh with 7 Vinyls and coming.
    My system gathering are wuite bizaar and may be even unmatched, so spare me those humilation. But I do love the sounds.
    I using 90watt 2 channel and 90 watt 7.2 receiver. The speakers are closed cabinets. It worked well in my tiny Flat/Condo to not so loud to adjacent rooms.
    I hoping my best with the up coming P6, which I should not never be replaced except for the catridges.
    You might not really read this but thank you for the space and I love to see you and family enjoy this, my wife also not against this and I hope she would find happiness from the music too.
    Best Regards,
    Han

    Love your videos. You have access to such great vintage Japanese Preamplifier's like an E7-B Sony. I don't understand why you wouldn't use something like that instead of a Rega Box.... I have been importing your vintage labs gear , and it is truly exceptional once I have it serviced , may as well be accuphase or luxman. People are in the dark over here. I'm going to put your heritage back into the light. Your lab team's were some of the best that ever existed in the late 70's.

    I started off with a Rega Planar 3 with matching R100 cartridge in 1981. It was £148 for the turntable including VAT. It featured the original S type tonearm and was my first taste of real HiFi. I look back fondly on those early years, a new vinyl LP usually sold for £2.99!

    You are right on about much of the audiophile community losing touch. I have been looking at the new RP-10 with mc cartridge as my last upgrade. I like the simplicity of setup that you mentioned.

      Yes indeed it is, the RP10.
      Brother Richard, please pick up the Rega book: A Vibration Measuring Machine.
      You'd know what is really, really going on in Rega's engineering and why their turntables are so great.
      I agree with your choice, the RP10. Fuss-free, highly engineered, zen-like. High quality. Simple. Like Muji products in appeal.

    Very encouraging video, loved it. The only sad part is that many of the new records cut today are made from digital sources. Even remasters said to be from the original master tapes are sometimes still made from a digital source of the master tapes instead (Looking at the 2014 Led Zeppelin remasters). But if you get into vinyl you should know the hard work ahead of you and a less convenient experience. That is part of the fun for me however. Discovering the worse sound of some records and preferring the older reissues just gives a longer journey and deeper knowledge of my record collection. And at the end of the day its still best not to worry too much and just enjoy instead.

    Back in '81 Rega only made 2 turntables. The Rega planar 2 with wooden surrounds & a thinner glass platter - this was very popular with first timers & many are still out there, a snip at £118 including arm. And of course the cult Rega planar 3 with thicker glass platter which was yours in any colour so long as this was black. I hope you have enjoyed your history lesson!

    Hi I’m new to this analog record systems, recently I bought aThorens TD203 TT with Ortofon 2m blue cartridge for 799 Canadian Dollar (on Amazon)and I’m enjoying it,as you said yes I can see the real differences in analog and digital playback, vinyl sounds more of live musical . And I just like your reviews on RUclips.

      Heh Buddy :-D Hi five!!!!!! Yes hehheh analog is just different :-D POSITIVELY!!!!!!!! It sounds more live because it lacks the prering, ring, postringing, time smear and phase shifts of digital that unsettles our mind! I am very happy you can attest to that, experience and continue to enjoy and live it for the rest of your musical journey!

    Interesting commentary. Love your channel so far, this is an older video, but as this was a more personal video it was nice to see a little of the man behind the great reviews and felt I had to comment. There is plenty of inexpensive gear that performs amazingly well. One thing I can say is that most speakers restrict you from amazing sound moreso than the source material and front end.

    Nice video. I upgraded from a Planar 2 to an RP6 (gloss green!) and and extremely happy with it. The RP6 makes high quality recording LPs simply sound stunning - and 'live' in playback performance. In fact, several of my favourite albums sound better than I've ever heard them anywhere else, on any format. It is however unforgiving of poor quality pressings, revealing all of their flaws in fine detail!I found that isolating the table on a Rega wall bracket mounted to a solid wall improved the noise floor to virtually indiscernible levels on clean recordings.

    I too enjoy your videos very much! I'm an old guy and not too long ago, I got intrigued by the resurgence of interest in "records". So, I dug out my old turntable, which has survived more years than I care to admit to, as well as numerous moves. Why I kept it, I haven't a clue; I mean, vinyl was dead, right? It's a Dual 1242, so NOT a high-end model. It still works, so I bought a decent (but not great) cartridge and a few pieces of "kit" to make sure it might work correctly; I didn't want to sink too much money into it, just give it a fair test run. It worked surprisingly okay. It's a tribute to German engineering/manufacturing. So, now I've been bitten by the vinyl bug, as exemplified by my watching your channel. Unfortunately, my means come nowhere close to my ability to purchase the objects of my desires. Even a Rega P3 is well out of my league at present. But I've often found that, if one is patient, possibilities present themselves. Until then, I'll continue to watch your channel as my favorite source of information. Then I'll know exactly what I want when it's time for me to pounce!

    Consider this video retweeted! Well done! I started my vinyl journey with a vintage Goldring-Lenco GL75, but as I already had a Rega Planet and Luna amp (remember the Luna, Rega fans?) I really wanted a Rega. I bought the P3 with Elys2 cartridge. It was like being snuggled up in a warm blanket with Earl grey tea and oranges - just a warm and cuddly and nostalgic sound - truly wonderful. Of course I upgraded it to a P5 first with an Ortofon 2M Blue (detailed and analytic) and then a Goldring 1042 (more rhythmic, smoother and more detailed treble than the Ortofon). I bought an external Creek Phono Stage to upgrade the built in one on the Rega Mira 3 amp I was then using. Nowadays I use a Rega RP8/Exact/Aria with the Elex-R and RS5 speakers. Heavenly!

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  8 лет назад +6

      Dear friend, of buying today, I would choose the RP6 because of its better cartridge prepackaged together with it (the Exact over the Elys), the better double-layered glass platter with a thicker rim for much better intertia and speed stability, and lastly the TT-PSU that also comes mandatorily prepackaged with the RP6's motor specially designed for external speed control. :-D This is my frank choice.

      Wow!!!!! My eyes glowed in happiness AND in equal measure: stress!...because it is a tough choice to pick between the two of them!!!!👍😄✌you are good my friend!!! I may veer towards the GR because of the flexibility and fun in changing cartridges almost at will, and its easier usability. But both sound quality are almost equal. The top plate of the GR may feel a bit plasticky compared to the great old SL1200Mk3/4/5/6s. The P6 has very well executed principles that deliver superb vinyl analogue playback sound! Do read the Rega book: the vibration measuring machine. It details the principles of design and critical parts of the turntable which have to be made extremely well with very tight tolerances.

    If I could name more than 8-10 albums where the quality is sufficiently high on 80% of the recorded material, I'd be 100% fine with vinyl. Having grown up in an era when it was the ONLY real choice (cassettes need a much more expensive player than I could ever afford), I lived with milk cartons full of vinyl records but nothing is more annoying that buying a double album that has - at best - 3 tracks worth listening to. Soundtracks now are WAY better than they were in the 70s, and that would be the only genre I could see myself consistently shelling out 30-40aud (!) for whenever I wanted new music. Spotify gives me access to more music than I could ever have dreamt of as a teenager - I still have the option of paying for the albums that resonate with me but more importantly I get to dodge the absolute dross some bands feel they can foist on their fans. Thanks for the video,

    Hi Ian, just subscribed to your channel :-). I am a musician (composer) and sound is definitely one of the key component I am looking for in a turntable system. I've been looking at Pro-Ject DC, Audio-Technica, Music Hall and Rega. Your reviews are great and very informative. Sound, music is so subjective so it's really hard to choose what's going to meet your needs but I think I tend to lean towards Rega after watching your reviews :-) I've also listened to the P3 and P6 in Singapore (Adelphi) and the differences is obvious however the price is definitely much higher on the P6. So I think what I may be going for and based on my budget, get a P3 without the cartridge and upgrade to an Ania Cartridge... Thoughts? Thanks for reading and have a great weekend, cheers!

      Okay let's get to the issue. May I ask, are your speakers active or passive? If they are active, you would just need your P2 paired to a Schiit Mani phonopreamp (USD129), and the output of the Mani connected to the input terminals of your active speakers.

    Hello Ian. That RP6 looks like a fine table! I was brought up in a humble working family. Mom, Dad and my older sister. We weren't rich money wise, but rich in love. I really like the vintage Japanese audio equipment. They need to be preserved. I love my Pioneer PL-518 TT. I appreciate your passion and candor about audio. Therefore you shall be dubbed Sir Ian, member of the Royal Court of Vinyl Afficianados. (RCVA). Cheers mate!

    This is perhaps your most entertaining video, busting the myth of $$ vs performance. I recently toyed with a $$-spirited hi-fi connoisseur using a Rega P3. Moral of the story: $$ equipment “may” sound better, but a carefully setup system will definitely sound much much better than $$-driven one!

    • @Lasse3
      @Lasse3 Год назад +1

      Yeah definately, it requires great skill and ability to listen, in order to fine-tune a turntable & cartridge. Also speaker placement, extremely difficult to get 'right'
      If you only have money and no ability to make good setup, you'll have wasted alot of money.
      Even a moderately priced system, with careful setup and fine-tuning can sound amazing.

    You were very smart to start with a quality "Plug and Play" option. This Rega is a great choice. Vinyl pressings have greatly improved over the past 10 years.

    Hi Ian.
    I have stumbled across your videos and I love how passionate and analytical you are. Amazing job!
    I have watched several of your videos and since I am about to buy my first turntable (system), I was wondering whether you could make some recommendations to someone who is just getting into vinyl.
    I was thinking to get the Rega Planar 1, however I am not sure about the preamp and speakers.
    What would you suggest?

      I sold small Heco ones to a friend....that wasmy 2nd pair in the kitchen attached to a Akai midi system which is dissimulated in the drawers :-) No need to have a brighter sound than my vintage 70ies Kenwood Ka-3700 on small wooden Panasonic speakers rom 2001: perfect match for the oily dampy kitchen...would like to try Dali with a valve tube amplifier...but the hifi is too expensive to spoil it with fat damps...I spend 2 hours per day in the kitchen listening to this small 25 W combination....waste of quality and details in the music...new idea: turntable in the kitchen to listen to Erasure, B52's and Queen and Rondo Veniziano lol. PS: next to the flower and pepper in the upper cupboard thrones a Denon DRM-710 tape deck :-) it was my wish to have in every piece of the apartment at least 1 complete set of hifi system, except turntable...1 of 3 midi Kenwood turntables works properly and my Rega P3. I need 2 new needles for the Kenwood P-94 and the P-84, but the P-84 seems to have serious automatic arm problems...

    Just discovered your channel here the other day and i have seen almost all of your videos now. I think it's great to see someone who actually loves vinyl for the musical experience and don´t care about the price-tag as long as it sound good.
    For the last 15 years i have been a surround-guy wit some hign end stereo wit cd's and streaming, but a couple of months back i had the pleasure of hearing av mid priced vinyl-based system and i fell in love.
    At this moment i am still saving up since i dont wanna buy cheap, enjoy it, sell with a lose, buy the next step and so on.
    So i wondered if you could say something about how you experience the diference in sonic quality between the Avid and the Rega p6?

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  8 лет назад

      Dear Rune,
      thank you for sharing with me your great experiences with detail, and I know how you feel. I loved listening, collecting and buying music since I was 11years of age back in 1986, saving up coins (I come from a very average family, dad is a teacher, mum is a homemaker) and when I have enough, I went to buy a cassette album costing S$8 (about USD6) during then :-D...and have always been interested in enjoying my music.... and I was involved in digital playback for many years in my audiophile hobby since 1995. I have never agreed with vinyl playback!!!...but until early 2014, when my wife asked me to get a affordable turntable for her to play her Japanese vinyl records shipped over from Japan, I discovered to my amazement, what I have been out on! The music that emanated from the RP6 through a humble Rega Fono MM Mk2 was tremendous. I smiled widely and bought it. My wife initially had wanted a RP1, but hearing much of what I can achieve of the RP6, I ignored her :-D and bought the RP6.
      Dear Rune, you are a very experienced audiophile and a reasonable one. My friend, to me, I can totally go to Desert Island with my Technics SL1200Mk5 now with a Grado Green/ Goldring Elektra / Nagaoka MP110 with a Schiit Mani phonostage and enjoy my vinyl music forever. This is my happy final realization: vinyl analogue magic with that dynamics, coherence and beauty, can be enjoyed at such highly affordable prices.
      To say that the Avid sounds much much better and gives me heavenly sound, I hope it will not detract from the absolute beautiful music which the Technics+Green/Elektra/MP110, or RP6, can give.
      I am enjoying my Technics+Green/Elektra/MP110 every day.
      ..."dont wanna buy cheap, enjoy it, sell with a lose, buy the next step and so on.".... good one Rune :-D
      Thank you for catching up with me here!!! :-D You can email me at hivinyws@gmail.com
      Sincerely,
      Ian.

    Hi Ian, thanks for the videos. I see below that someone asked the question about the RP6 vs. the Planar 3. You said you would take the RP6 because, among other things, the RP6 had the better cartridge. But what if they both had the MP-110? Would the RP6 still be better in your opinion?

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  7 лет назад

      Dr. J. Yes my friend 👋😄 the rp6. Coz the rp6 has a dual glass platter with the second layer adding that flywheel effect for better speed stability, and it comes standard with an outboard power supply. So if both P3 and RP6 were to sport the same superb MP-110, i will definitely take the RP6. Thank you my friend for coming by and catching up! Warmest Regards and see you again!💪😄✌

      @HiViNywschannel  9 лет назад

      R Jan Dear friend R Jan, I have sold my harbeth SHL5+ speakers in Feb2015 because I realised that they were really unideal to my requirements of accuracy and musicality. I did a thorough comparison with my B&W and other friends' speakers in Feb2015, and was shocked at how far the harbeths were behind all other speaker brands and models that I am lucky to have auditioned. It was not easy for me because they had cost me about US$7k in Oct 2014, and not easy to realise and admit to myself I have bought too much into the hype over them without auditioning and spending more time at the process.
      Thank you for your kind and courteous enquiry :-)

    Hi there. I found your channel a few days ago and watched almost all your videos. They are very entertaining, clear and to the point. Oh, and the music you use is also great. I want to upgrade my tt to either a Rega P6 (the new model) or an Electrocompaniet ECG1 (can't really explain why, but these are my two options). My vinyl collection mostly comprises of prog rock, but I also listen to classical and jazz sometimes. I'm very interested in sinergy, and I want my stuff to have the characteristics you praise - punchy sound, but not hollow, with smiley EQ. So my question would be if you heard the Nagaoka MP500 and if it would be a wrong mach for a Rega P6. The phonostage will also need upgrading, so I was wondering if you had the chance to hear the new Rega Fono MM (mk3) and how it compares to your prefered budget one - the Schiit Mani, and how you think it would fit the setup - a Rega Aria is in the books, but not for now. My concern with the Electrocompaniet is that I read it can sound too smooth, and I don't know if you can offset that with cartridge choice (something like Ortofon 2M). Rest of my system is Naim Nac N 172XS + Nap200 with B&W PM1.
    Thank you, and greetings from Romania, keep up your very nice series :)

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  7 лет назад

      Dear Friend, You have a fantastic system!!! You have a very big budget, and yes the P6 will definitely be up for it. It takes a lot of money (if you buy other brands) to beat a Rega turntable in terms of performance. This is what many of us friends have realized. Apologies that I have not heard the MM Mk3 yet, but it will be in the books and I will review it as soon as possible within the next few months. I doubt it can beat the Schiit Mani. The Rega Aria is a scorchingly great phonostage in MM mode (not in MC mode, like most other sub-$5k phonostages in MC modes, sadly, except the Avid Pulsus). I do have the MP-500, preliminary results show it to be extremely superb!!!! Amazing cartridge, great, great, great sound. Your PM1 must be giving you a lot of goosebumps with clarity and realism on offer every day :-D... Amazing setup with some really solid Naim electronics. We shall see if the ECG1 will outperform your NAC+NAP... exciting to see the results!! Do update me :-D
      Warmest Regards for your hifi journey and vinyl journey :-D, ~ ian.

    • @rains00the
      @rains00the 7 лет назад

      Thanks a lot for your reply and quickness, Ian :) Seems like Rega + the MP500 is the way to go. About my system, it's all SH or ex-dem, so got everything at almost half price (with some trade-ins here and there). Love your passion for this hobby. Also, if you get the chance, try to audition JBL 4312SE - I just heard them yesterday and, although I like a slightly sophisticated sound (and puncy), the very raw sounding JBLs are the first speakers that made me forget all the equipment and gave pure joy. I kept laughing during the audition, it was joy. They sound very raw, but in a great way - so try to hear those, you might find them very very much fun. If I had a big room, I would get them over any speaker I heard at even 4-5 times the price. Ofc it's all personal, but no other speaker made this impression on me. Thanks again for your feedback and your passion. :D Bogdan

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  7 лет назад

      OH yes, my friend Bogdan, I forgot to let you know that you would need to acquire the Rega tonearm base spacer to bring it up by 6 to 8mm (3 to 4 spacers, each giving 2mm height increase), so as to allow the Nagaoka MP-500 to achieve the ideal Stylus Rake Angle of 92degrees. I have that in my experience with Nagaoka carts and my Rega P3. :-D I enjoy reading the way you write so lively about the JBL4312 speakers!!! hahaha okies, if i have the chance, I will hear them. Thank you brother!!! And, yes, best regards for your vinyl journey! ~ ian.

    • @rains00the
      @rains00the 7 лет назад

      Oh, thanks a lot for that, I thought I only needed one spacer.

    • @HiViNywschannel
      @HiViNywschannel  7 лет назад

      Dear Brother, you can actually just buy ONE spacer, and this spacer is able to adjust for 2-4-6-8mm by turning it around. THis is a aftermarket spacer. The original Rega ones are solid spacers each giving a 2mm height increase. But this aftermarket one gives you 4 settings.

      Okay brother... i fully recommend you to get the Rega Planar 3... white. The Planar 2 still has the rough lesser quality plinth finish which will not appeal to your wife. The Planar 3 has the modern, high quality laminated finish, and together with the OptiWhite glass platter shimmery edge... and overall Zen-like appearance, should apoeal aesthetically to her. It also looks simple and simple enough that she would use. I know...because i realize that with my wife too!!!! 💪😄. Just bought a white P3 seven weeks ago. She loves it. Sound quality: best in class.

    Loved hearing the personal story/journey... and the retailer is obviously long - I have heard $25 USD used tables that sound just fine - it is all setup and speakers that matter the most. My UTurn is considered a "cheap" player and looked down by most audiophiles - but I have had people with golden ears say great things about it, even Michael Fremer has good things to say about the table. It won't get you 100% audiophile performance, but it will get you 85-90% there... those last 10% are where those kind of retailers live.

      +dixielandfarm Yes I agree with you. I disagree that one has to spend big bucks to ENJOY music. I really wanted to get a U-Turn 2 weeks ago, but because Singapore uses 230v, and U-Turn doesn't provide any facilities for a 230v version... a couple of my friends and I held back our purchase. U-Turn is really a great turntable I really agree with!!! Totally!!!!!!

      +HiViNyws channel The motor actually uses a power supply that brings it down to 24v AC, so I think you can find an adapter pretty easily and still be able to enjoy the UTurn... As a matter of fact, I think that is the same voltage a Rega uses...

    Any music on any support is always only as good as the original recording and the master done from it. You can get great sound, great musicallity, a massive soundstage with air and holography out of digital, if it's recorded and mastered properly. The problem is a lot of things aren't mastered properly, because digital is too permissive and allow them to brickwall limit to sound louder, and that's good enough for them. Vinyl doesn't allow that, it have to be properly mastered; that's why it ends up sounding better a lot of times, despite being technically inferior.

    Hey Mate
    Quick question..how do you decide when you need to upgrade your turntable? I received from my grandparents lately Sony turntable from 1979 it's actually first turntable I've and everything is new to me. I'm slowly learning different kind of stuff about turntables and vinyls. Reason why I wanted to get turntable was because some of the bands I listen don't release CDs or any other formats but vinyl only and I really wanted to listen their music so there you go. I've been thinking should I upgrade to Rega RP6 or Pioneer PLX-1000 (DJ turntable I like the looks of it) but I seem to be happy with the sound quality I've right now I replaced the needle since it was 30 years old but little used but I've now new one. I can't change cartridge in this model at all..Also does in your RP6 get any clicks and pops on records? I've bought new records where some pop in exactly same spot over and over while some records don't produce any other noises than they should. I only use like..carbon fiber brush and eyeglasses cleaning cloth gently on the record before I play it and clean the needle as well. How I should choose when to upgrade? Also I'm thinking to replace my pre-amp Project with the Schiit Mani one. :)
    cheers

      +SmirGel Dear Friend!!! :-D I can't be too quick in my reply. It will be carefully thought out and written to prevent any misunderstanding and to facilitate proper approach and insight and how to make the best inroad into vinyl playback without making mistakes.
      Mistake like what? :-) mistake is when people get into vinyl with first purchase: buying Crosleys and some other turntables that regrettably...sound so horrible that after 1month or 2months, the owners would get so tired and ill incentivised to listen to vinyl anymore...and chuck it to one side... chuck it to one side not for listening, but just as a style statement... a hipster statement. These owners would not be fooling their friends who came by because these friends would NOT impressed with such lousy sounding vinyl players... but they won't say it.
      None is the wiser in the above situation....
      ***
      Remember that in the 60s and 70s, it DOESN'T matter if one were to start off with a turntable that is really entry level and sounded horrible, because that is the only way to listen to music i.e. vinyl.
      But now, with mp3, computer files, bluetooth speakers... it is pretty easy to see the CONS with having a vinyl setup that sounds horrible...and to forsake the vinyl setup after a month or two, back to digital format playback, which is so much more convenient and cheaper.
      THUS, the only only incentive, for the VINYL WAVE to be truly SUSTAINABLE and LONG LASTING.... is: for the PUBLIC to REALISE that :-) :
      --->>> VINYL MUSIC PLAYBACK is WAY BETTER than digital.
      How can that be achieved? :-)
      Getting a vinyl setup that is SOUND-WORTHY.
      A REGA RP1 or PROJECT DEBUT CARBON.... + a SCHIIT MANI PHONO PREAMPLIFIER. US$400+US$129.
      Match them to an Onkyo A9010 amplifier US$300 and a pair of Elac Debut B5 US$230.
      Whole system: $1060.
      You can also get the Aktimate Mini+ B or Aktimate Blue active speakers instead of the Onkyo+Elac combination. The Mini+ and Blue are terrific speakers that has Epos speaker pedigree and Creek amplifier pedigree, and 2 pairs of RCA inputs which you can hook up to your TV, and to your vinyl setup, and it includes a USB input for your computer files!... AND it has Bluetooth connectivity so that you can stream music from your smartphone over. Very clean... no need for another "BOX" lying around (i.e. the amplifier).
      Thus you see my train of thought... you see that I am not being a snob by suggesting that to enter into vinyl, one must at least get the above... because anything less than that, will not be sound-worthy enough for the user/owner to continue the vinyl journey. :-)
      ***
      It is understandable to have vinyl records that keep having that tick/pop at the same spot again and again repeatably... :-) don't be too hard on yourself okay? You're doing fine!
      You may get Spin Clean to wash/clean your records.
      Carbon fibre brush (for the vinyl record) is good for casual cleaning before putting that stylus down onto the spinning vinyl record.
      ***
      I'd still recommend the Rega RP1 or ProJect Debut above the PLX1000 :-)
      ***

      +HiViNyws channel Hey mate, thanks for detailed reply!
      I've currently Sony PS-LX231 -> Pro-Ject Phono Box MM/MC Phono preamp -> O2+ODAC it's DAC/AMP for headphones but I use RCA to 3.5mm so I use headphones to listen vinyls I don't personally like speakers. I am more worried about my Pro-Ject not going so good so I might as well order Schiit Mani from USA and ship it to EU it shouldn't be that expensive. I don't personally think the sound is horrible (not that I've even heard any expensive/modern turntables in person) but for my kind of music it sounds okay to me at least but my biggest problem with the Sony is that there isn't any way to get any upgrades to it like change new cartridge or so. Just needle can be replaced to stock one. I choosed Rega RP6 over RP3 cuz of the speed changer device where you just press a button to change speed to 33/45. I've 45rpm records as well so changing speed in RP1 or RP3 seems trouble some that's why I was thinking the DJ table or RP6. But as I've always though about myself I just need a turntable that has the features like easy to change speed and good quality sound decent enough but not cost 10,000€ to me :D so yea.. in my region RP6 seems to go between 1300-1600€ with EXACT cartridge but Pioneer DJ turntable goes about 700€ without cartridge.

      also if I decide to get the Schiit Mani it will fit nicely to my small package thing going on with the O2+ODAC ;)

      +SmirGel I see! :-) Agreed....
      And also... i second your thought of getting the RP6 to supercede your Sony turntable as your high worth turntable. It has provided me to this date...and in fact, to this minute (I AM listening to the RP6+Exact+Mani NOW as I am typing this reply to you), wonderful beautiful vinyl analogue sound performance.
      Yes, Schiit Mani with the RP6. Superb! And,
      Congratulations mate!!!
      Best Regards!
      Ian.

    Kinda feel sorry for that retailer guy who thinks they you need 20k to appreciate vinyl, so sad...lost soul...

    When you have a Rega RP6 you don’t have to say anything to prove a point.
    Period. !!!
    It needs no endorsement and those who buy the RP6 know exactly what they’re doing.
    People buy a Rega because they know Rega.
    Publicity for the RP6 is actually insulting the product.
    Vinyl
    The murder of vinyl was the computer CD recorder which should have never been sanctioned
    That was the injury the insult came with free downloads and vinyl took a hit.
    Those who use digital today, sadly never ever heard vinyl.
    The human ear is made for analog

    Your digital front end, (costing $10k) sounds flat, 2 dimensional to you? ...so!??? ....my "Asian-Pacific digital" system cost me $1900. Sounds 3D, depth of field, good soundstage, airy, decays very nicely!!!! ...with "Chi-fi" Rogers LS3/5 spkrs, JBL 570. I'm more than happy, have a few $$$$ in my pocket!! I also have descent vinyl collection, all genres, Kenwood kd 500 table, moving coil/magnet carts, (5)....no arm/step up. ???since '99??? Been an "Audio-fool" Music lover since 1973....big whoop? I actually enjoy yr enthusiast adventures on video! Peace from Temple Hills, USA. 😆😆

    once you listen to a rp6 you realise how bad cd is .

    record players and phono preamps sound different to Dacs and CD players. NOT better or worse, just different. And no an rp6 does not sound more 3 dimensional than a 100k digital front end. absolute nonsense. They are usualy comparable in performance. In fact i will say that in my experience at the same price point, the dacs ive tested outperform a turntable.
    Records are beautiful things as are turntables. They have a good enjoyable sound as do Dacs and CD players. If you think your Dac sounds harsh change it to one that does not. This nonsese about records sounding better is absolutely incorrect. Btw I own both DAC and turntable.
