I was fortunate to hear live concerts in 80s during Ramanavami festival in Bangalore. Absolute great, godly and out of world.
What a soleful rendition of this swarajathi. We are grateful that such music is preserved for posterity. There can never be anyone like the great MDR

Hats off to Palghat Raghu's playing of the left side.. it stands out in such a beautiful vilambita-gati mandra-sthaayi singing.
The great master MDR Sir excelled in vilambitha style of rendering. MDR Sir has an inimitable style of rendering full of bhakti and bhava. His voice is mellifluous and comforting. He is accompanied by equally versatile and great artists CNSN on violin and PR on Mridangam. Kodi pranamam to the great soul Raj Namboodiriji in sharing this gem with rasikas.
My favourite musician we loss him very early, wonderful voice since 35 years I am listening his music, in All India radio all great musician born in kerala and tamilNadu So I was not seen My favourite musician except Kunnakudi vaidyanathan
There will never be a singer like him. I consider it my misfortune to have not born in his generation. I simply cannot understand how the music academy failed to recognize a once in a lifetime legend like him.
Real Legends are always above human recognition
Music Academy was then run by a Supreme Bigot who is said to have ruled out MDR on the ground that the previous award had gone to ‘another Palakkad’ singer KVN!
No body sing like M.D.Ramanathan when I listening his music my eye will be wet M.D.,R is gods gift. his endaro mahanubhavulu is excellent voice
@@CHNBALA That isn't correct. KVN got it in 1986 while MDR had already passed away by 1984. Nevertheless, semmangudi's reflectance did degrade the value of the award when it wasn't awarded to MDR.

In a nadaswaram recital the tavil vidwan does his thing even while the alapana takes a break. In fact, almost all nadaswara recitals begin with tavil sounds even before the nadaswara vidwan gets ready to do his thing in the beginning. Such refreshing feature! Since talam is a salient feature of our music that tavil innovation is such a delight. Needless to say the nadaswaram vidwan has to take numerous breaks in between renditions as it is not an easy endeavor to play the complicated wind instrument nonstop. As he takes the needed breaks the tavil comes and fills in the breaks to make sure it is one continuous flow. Who can resist those lovely tavil sounds? MDR found that beauty and cleverly incorporated that aspect of our nadaswaram music into his paddhati. Guess what? He gets a brilliant tala vidwan such as Raghu sir who masterfully fills in all gaps with sheer surrender to perfection. Raghu sir learnt a thing or two from his master and added his own imprints to bring out the best out of mridangam. It is a known fact that Palghat Mani Iyer particularly did not care for MDR's style of singing. However, as a devoted accompanist he would do his best as numerous tapes of his with MDR attest. Raghu sir, on the other hand, did enjoy MDR's company and that is why when you listen to any kutcheri of his with MDR -- this one for instance -- it brings out the best of all. Add to this one of the all time best Violinists -- Sri Chalakkudi -- who never got any recognition [remember he came from Kerala, not a particular favorite place for the Academy big shots in Madras]. We are in for a treat!

@@MrKanthikumar I used to be enchanted by the sound of Mridangam even at the age of 5 years. Later in the 80s I had the opportunity to attend some concerts where masters like Umayalapuram, Guruvayoor Dorai, Karaikudi Mani, TVG etc had accompanied musicians like Balamurali, mysore Nagaraj, MDR, MLV and many great artists.
I was in Bangalore then. I am an incurable music lover.

V.S.SIVARAMAN, age 71 HYDERBAD - This swarajathi is always sung in lower notes. MDR is Master crftsman ilower notes. We feel that we are at the lotus feet of ambal through the guidance of this great genious. Not only he honours Ambal but ragam Bhairavi ( One of the names of ambal) what acoincidence crated by Syma sastrigal.
Rendition in the purest form! Mridangam a great treat as always frm Palghat Raghu Sir.
The incomparable MDR"s rendering of Bhairavi swarajati brings out the grandeur of Carnatic music.

But this is totally different. cant compare the two class.... The Mridangam and Violin should be appreciated equally... brilliant....
