I salute anyone who volunteers in the cold, dark and wet of night to bring a bit of free happiness into people’s lives - there’s a reason why travelling show-people and circuses have winter quarters because the rigging up and tearing down of rides and big tops is not for the faint-hearted and sadly many fairground operators suffer terrible back, joint pain, rheumatism and arthritis in later life. 👏
Jemma all the work for those Carnivals is amazing! Congratulations to all! I have been apart of the Carnival in WsM but always the group I was with was Number 1! In and Out!
These carnivals are serious work for the crews. I'm not surprised Jemma is exhausted at the end of the parade. Driving this wide and tall vehicle is not easy, she has to concentrate to avoid the obstacles and people along the route. But at least the crowd really appreciates the effort of the clubs. The towns in this video are cool and everything is well organized. It's great to see your run was flawless again. Excellent vlog Jemma, big thank you for documenting these events for us. 😍
Hi Jemma, another fine video and carnival. I have spent many a holiday in Weston -Super-Mare when knee high to a grass hopper. looking forward to your next video. Ho look here it is you driving a 100 foot truck
Great video Jem, brilliant insight to the workings of the carnival circuit with the problems you encounter. It would be great to chart your progress of next year's cart and show it after it's out what the theme will be. We saw you B O S we came to see you from South Wales. Keep up the great work.
Great video again jemma we was at Weston-super-Mare the float looks amazing shame about the generator but we all clapped for the hard work you all done
I am totally impressed with these carnivals. I had not even heard of these festivities.. Up here in the north east we have nothing like this. You should all be very proud of yourselves.
Super vid Jemz. Kudos to everyone working on the cart's. I love the community spirit where everybody knows everyone else....thats special. Thanks for all your hard work Jemz, it is much appreciated. ❤
Absolutely brilliant videos😁😁😁😁 I went down to Bridgewater about 10 years ago to see a friend And he work on one of the floats and took me to the shed where they was built I was amazed of all the dedicated people and the effort put in to producing the fantastic floats You all bring so much joy to the people watching Thank you for sharing your time on the carnivals ❤xx
WoW just WoW, I'm awe-struck at um everything about Carnival, absolutely mind-blowing, I'm lost for words on how much i enjoyed watching. As a part-time contemporary-artist, the carnival captures my inner-most-imagination, BUT, what intrigued me most wasn't the aesthetic-influence of carnival carts and performers etc (actually the carts & performers were great), but the HUGE input of engineering, organisation, dedication, choreography, positive attitude(s) and much much more in-the background, to enable everything to happen. Awesome!!, 🥰i love watching your trucking-video's, and also how you incorporate your family & friends, and now your involvement in carnival, it's just GREAT!!. I've never seen anything so ELABORATE! , Great Stuff. I let you go for a cuppa-tea., and we won't forget the isolation switch... *jokes* 😷 (New Zealand)
Jazus great video. Fairplay to ye all. Some work and thinking gone into designing and making the floats. Getting them around to the different parades must be a nightmare. 👏👏 ☘️👍☘️
I watch all your videos Jemma and have been really enjoying these last few ones. I've never been into this carnival stuff but I'm now converted. So I'm going to attend next year and looking forward to it.
Honestly your carnival videos are awesome, its mental how much work goes into them. Shame about the genny at WSM least it wasn't too serious! great video Jem!
Hi Jemma What a great team effort to get the floats ready. I do wonder if people know how much hard work is put in by the team just to get the floats from town to town, the long nights so much dedication by everyone . Your day job look far more easy than driving the float 🤣🤣. All the best.
Jemma thank you , your dad and all you guys that work so hard all year round to display your carts, we are from surrey and have a small caravan stored at Newton Brook storage North Petherton , and yes we had that long wait for the gas leek, we thoroughly enjoyed that evening , so again a very big thank you for your effort, Hope you win overall 🤩🤩
Those carts are awesome Jemma, and how you go thro that every year must be stressful time for all involved. It's sad when you get some folk who don't have good time if they knew the work that goes into it all, nice video.
Great video again. We come down from Herefordshire to see it as nothing like this much happens in our area. But we do find some influence for the Christmas tractor runs with lighting.
What a shame it never rains but it pours, first the generator failure and then the gas leak. 😂😂 Who needs a radio when you can sing like that. 🤣🤣 At least the weather looked okay for most of the time and what an amazing turn out at all the venues. Thanks for another amazing video, everyone does a fantastic job, it is really good to see how much support you get at these local events. Definitely deserved your cup of tea.
Such a shame jemma it does happen i think there was 3 breakdowns at bridgewater a few years ago its so hard to take after all the work that goes into the carts
Hello jemma I always look forward to the carnival season you must be a good driver to take it through the streets have you ever have to move the street furniture to get round hope you get the generator fixed ❤❤❤❤😂
I help with a charity that puts on events for a town in the midlands and it is hard work and long days especially in the winter months carrying out not only the events but all that goes on behind the scenes.
I never noticed the gear stick by your right elbow - bet that took some getting used to, Jemma! 😵💫 I think Weston are missing a trick with all the carts in the car park - perhaps they should have a party there and raise more money ? Or perhaps just for the participants.
Amused by the comment about reversing. A friend that’s an artic driver has a caravan for holidays. He invariably gets his wife to reverse the caravan as he says it’s a lot more difficult to reverse than the artic!
Been there done that with idiots either climbing on the truck or watching me reversing into a dealership and trying to step over the drawbar while I'm moving. You just wonder where the responsible adult they left home with has vanished off to sometimes.
A brilliant carnival season this year as always myself and my dad venture from Bristol each year to see it. I do wish Weston-Super-Mare would go back to being the last event though on the old date it was on it was super convenient for going early and missing the traffic plus I was thinking on the way back from Glastonbury carnival if Burnham-On-Sea and Weston-Super-Mare Carnivals were to be moved somewhere between the 20th & 26th of November surely it would be easier on the clubs and carnivalites participating have the dates more spread out less of a hassle?.
Yes, I can see where you are coming from. I have a cousin who had a hotel in Blackpool, and he used to watch Weston-super-Mare carnival as the lights in Blackpool had finished. Spreading the carnivals is also a good idea but a lot of people take holidays for the carnivals and it would take up even more holidays. By the time they have built it, then the carnivals everyone has had enough. Vagabonds do a Christmas cart each year travelling around the estates collecting for charity a different one each year the money collected is split between the charity and the club. They will start this this Saturday, 3rd. Take care
Having not seen a carnival for many years WSM was just amazing... It was a massive shame your generator decided not to work but I can tell you..... You had the biggest of cheers!! I cannot believe the stupidity of some parents trying to put a kid on a moving cart just unbelievable. Love your carnival videos and it's great to see Locking road carpark is one of the more social friendly park ups. Do you and your club have an idea for next year already?
Another of the clubs picked an idea before that year's carnival, but vagabonds had a meeting last week, and there were several ideas, and one was picked. It could be a good one, hopefully 😊🙈🙉🙊 take care
Those are lamps..bulbs go in the garden :) .. i remember when these used the old tungsten lamps the heat coming off the floats was mental... I rent out generators its a stressful job :)
Hi, thank you for your comment. You must have seen a lot of changes over the years. As you say the heat from the other lights keeps people warm on the cart when I started in 68 we had a 17 kva and it was very cold then as not many lights it's goodvthat our daughters are carrying on now, I'm to old 😅 and like my arm chair to much . Take care
Really enjoyed that video Jem, tell me more about the generator (spent many years fixing them before I decided to fix trains), is the cart an Old Ford cargo chassis???
Yes, the tug is an old Ford cargo tractor unit with a 290 Cummings and a Eaton twinspliter gearbox. It's an ex Naval truck. We bought it in 1999 Barry Smith and John Warren then converted it ready for 1999 carnival. Thank you for your comment, I hope this answers your question. Take care
Hi, there will not be another one now until November next year. Go to somerset carnivals, and next year's dates will be found. Although I'm not sure if they are there yet. They start with bridgwater the nearest Saturday to the 5th. Take care and enjoy alow plenty of time to park ect
Being an Aussie I am quite sure I don’t understand what is happening. I understand the floats, but not why they are there and what purpose they serve. For the O/s crowd maybe a little context, seems like a fun time for everyone involved though.
Hi Jemma I got another reply from some silly people your mum said to ignore them so I have.I just delete the comments with the silly reply and do the comments again.♥️👍
Im not a truck driver, but have driven a few semis on farms, single trailer to reverse is easy, b doubles I find impossible, professional truck drivers do it easily.
Thank you

These have been really interesting Jemma, what speed can you travel at in the cart moving between carnivals ?
Morning, and thanks for the comment. They are restricted to 20 mile an hour. Take care

Hi, most carnivals there are approximately 120 entries and that is a mix of carts and walking entries. It's hard to say how many carts . Take care
