Many years ago, back when I was doing heroin, I listened to this song a lot. I've been clean for 7.5 years now, and I just listened to it again for old time sake. I cried so hard. Good lord, this song is intensely emotional. I can't put my finger on it, I don't fully understand the meaning of the song, but I think I *feel* it perfectly.
Lyrics: I'd be riding horses if they'd let me Sleep outside at night and not take fright I would ride the range and never worry I would disappear into the night Everybody needs an angel But here's that devil by my side Death's head ring upon his finger Poor boy hanging on the light They'll be drawing straws inside the courtroom As the sudden twilight turns to black Torches burn into the sad eyes On the wrong side of the track Make those horses jump through hoops of flame They won't kick and they won't scream Let the good lord do the driving Poor boy sinking in the stream I can smell the campfires burning But I'll go out walking on my own By day and night the world keeps turning Frightened people hiding in their homes Everybody needs an angel But here's that devil by my side Death's head ring upon his finger Poor boy hanging on the light
this song really holds a special place in my soul. when my dog of 16 years passed, I played this on a loop (with a couple other tunes) for hours. Not sure why it brings a tear.
I have never thought i'd struggle with the idea of death so much, since i was always able to let go the people who left around me. But i look into darkness thinking about the passing of my dog. He is hopefully still some years away from it, but i'll keep in mind, that those songs helped you and gave that grief a face.
Fell in love with this song about 10 yrs ago; never realised it was written by a bunch of white middle class arty punk students called the Mekons ... who I used to love back in '78 along with their pals The Gang of Four.
@@eleanorgatewood4408 as you may well remember the mekons functioned as some sort of collective and "anyone could be a mekon" The song is listed as being written by Sally Timms (lyrics ) and Jon Langford. Presumably it was played by the mekons if not recorded by the mekons and Sally was a member of the mekons.
Kudos! I feel the same way, the trucker and his dog were so poinient, makes you want to look at those around you and think of the stories they have to tell....
@@kylebrown2927 the original song is from Sally Timms. He recorded a cover in 94 under his alias Palace Songs. ruclips.net/video/06vyVOc-eUg/видео.html

hey man, glad you are doing good!
I never did H but it does sound like a song that would suit the experience perfectly.
Thank you for this blessing of a song ❤
Just heard this the other day blown away with it
Lyrics:
I'd be riding horses if they'd let me
Sleep outside at night and not take fright
I would ride the range and never worry
I would disappear into the night
Everybody needs an angel
But here's that devil by my side
Death's head ring upon his finger
Poor boy hanging on the light
They'll be drawing straws inside the courtroom
As the sudden twilight turns to black
Torches burn into the sad eyes
On the wrong side of the track
Make those horses jump through hoops of flame
They won't kick and they won't scream
Let the good lord do the driving
Poor boy sinking in the stream
I can smell the campfires burning
But I'll go out walking on my own
By day and night the world keeps turning
Frightened people hiding in their homes
Everybody needs an angel
But here's that devil by my side
Death's head ring upon his finger
Poor boy hanging on the light

Be great if Bonnie had this stuff on Spotify…..

Songs stick that way. After my dog died the first song i heard was "tangled up in blue" and i cant hear the song without thinking of him.

@amadeushuber709 when people suck and you finde something more in the love from animals
my condolences.
Truly think it's the most beautiful song ever written - always manages to enhance whatever emotion i'm currently feeling. Incredible.
there is something about it, isn't there?
When no music is doing it for me…I return to this song and let it wash me.
The aesthetic is great. What a beautiful song, deceptively simple
I came here to post something similar.
Forever brilliant

I am with you Luke and R.
Am I the only one who has an allure for the truck driver and the steel guitar?
You are
I bet the one dislike is one of Billy’s fans who met him and felt he was owed something and left disappointed! Nobody dislikes this gem!
It's 4 dislikes now. I want to know the reasons for disliking this most beautiful song and video. Or maybe I don't care.
It’s because they are stupid... or maybe were looking for horse videos

Actually, I found the original post quite charming and vigorous, alongside a creative use of the word "fuck".

same!
Me too!

When the guitar has the fast-paced part... that's from some 80s song (which I'm sure took it from someone else)... hmm can't think of it
its his own song, he re-recorded it as a country song. He's gone under a bunh of stage names.

Thnxs for the info. Great Album title too from Sally Timms.
„Songs of false hopes and high values.“
@@kylebrown2927 I misspoke. I meant to say, "a few notes of this song vaguely remind me of". I didn't mean to say it was plagiarized in anyway.
