Hiking with the family to the Kalbe Mountain in the Geo-nature park Frau Holle Land

- Join us in our journey along the P1 trail on the Hoher Meißner mountain in north- eastern Hesse.
This day we went along a part of the side trail 6 on which we climed the Calf (Kalbe) the 2nd highest summit of the region at 720 meters and we also went along the calf Lake (Kalbsee) which is a partial flooded coal mine.
The hiking trails are part of the Geo-Naturpark Frau-Holle-Land which was expanded a bit and renamed from Naturpark Meißner-Kaufunger Wald in February 2017 so at this point (April 2017) the old name is much more present. The home page for example is still www.naturpark-mkw.de (all German)
Coal mining had been going on for hunderts of years on the Meißner partial for the salt production in Bad Sooden (Allendorf) which had the monopol for salt production in Hesse-Kassel.
The last mine was closed down in 1976 and during that time the train connection between Eschwege and Kassel was closed as well.
The Meißner Mountain is recording to local folklore and mythology believed to be the seat of Frau Holle / Mother Hulda which you might recall from the Brother Grimm tales stories.
The Werra-Meißner region had been directly at the German-German border from 1949 till 1990 which put it from a central area of German into a rather inaccessible border region.

That looked like a very nice trail. Well marked and in good condition. Pretty good views also. Your daughter was pretty cute there at the end smiling at the camera. :)
+WVRunning Don I think the time of cuteness is finally at its end, today she complained so much against getting help while eating... terrible twos they call it don't they?
Thanks for watching, do you found it awfully long? I think I'll rather give these videos some more space the next one is almost 30 minutes now before editing... better just have one such long every odd week or so..
I remember the terrible two's with my kids. :) The time was fine considering the content. I just waited to watch when I had more time. Maybe set aside a certain day for the longer videos.
+WVRunning Don I usually want to publish my longer videos on Saturdays but with this one I really had problems, every time I edited something it jumped to public.
I must say I found the video quite watchable for the length and considering it was one of mine (from editing that is) most people just don't have the time it's the same for me. 😉
Somehow youtube wants to send this video onto public every time I edit something, can't even shedule it any more so I give in and give out the video already on Friday not tomorrow.
This is the same area from you winter video you linked it from? Looks different with all the green.
It´s the same area but a little bit above on the mountain - I made a video at the mine drainage shaft and house 1-2 years back but I guss it was in some vlog so I didn´t find it (didn´t search too much for it either since the videos as all over 2 channels...)
