    Like all the people in the comments I got here just by a random algorithm recommendation. And let me say THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THE ALGORITHM. The vibe, the music, the editing, everything! Such a beautiful, calm, peaceful piece of art. I'm rushing to go listen to the album. Thank you for this!

    RUclips randomly recommended this to me and I’m so glad it did. I’m only a few minutes into this video and I can already tell that I’m about to go through your entire discography. I’m so inspired rn, in a world filled with artists and producers chasing algorithms, you are a breath of fresh air and someone I want to emulate :)

    Commenting so this sees more eyes - a documentary like this made me want to become a producer. I did. I have had a year and a month off from doing it to make money for my family, but documentaries like this rip me apart because I can’t make music AND make money to support my family in the real world. Give life to the next generation. I hope this is the documentary that inspires the next one. It inspired me but I’m too far gone. Life ate me. Don’t let it eat you too

    • @thysweetlord
      @thysweetlord 22 дня назад

      Life ate you brother. Thanks for sharing. It’s trying to eat me now and I’m scared it might be. It’s hard knowing you wont know for sure till whats done is done. But then is this insanity or freedom, my decision to move forward and accept what may come. I tell lovee ones it feels I have to decide between having a family and pursuing what I love. They say just do both. They dont understand and almost noone does.
      I hope your family puts back together what life ate brother. God bless.

    This just proves that a good story will always attract an audience. This has been missing for so long and I am glad that creatives are finally picking back up on this. I have seen many content creators and artists start going to go back to this format and moving away from the algorithm.

    Why do you think you have to compromise on artistic integrity in order to make money? Aesthetically and sonically this indie folk zeitgeist is very popular right now. With anything popular comes money. I'm not sure if you're being modest or artificial by suggesting that what you're making is 'free of any monetary pursuit'; but I think you can expect money off this :)

    • @normalthekid
      @normalthekid  Месяц назад +3

      this is an awesome question! so for me artists keeping their right to choice and their own creative ideas is huge. the process of releasing music within the huge label deals (popular music) is a huge business that runs through large teams. the original art gets watered down to make things more commercially successful. i decided to not take certain opportunities presented to me where i would give over a large part of my art in order to become more commercially relevant. people on my team that wanted me to sing a certain way, have my stuff look a certain way and whatnot. i got rid of all that. i just wanted to make the music that i’ve wanted to make since i started ‘normal the kid’ but couldn’t achieve. i finally achieved that. wether or not it came at the same time as an indie folk surge (which happens every 5 years or so) i would chalk up to a coincidence. i would also say the amount of money i make now doesn’t even hold a hair to the kind of money that i would have made if i had decided to go a bigger route. the way i chose makes enough to keep putting out music and provide for my wife. not enough to turn it into a huge corporation. i appreciate this thought tho, i had predicted someone would ask it and i was excited to get an opportunity to answer! artists losing their right to choose their paths because of fine lines in contracts is huge and something we as a community should have more discourse around.

    • @WOLFGANGPANDER
      @WOLFGANGPANDER Месяц назад +1

      @normalthekid Thanks for the reply, kid. Okay, I didn't know you were referring to the freedom of an independent career vs. a traditional industry deal one. I'd agree with your points there! Corporate capitalism in the entertainment industry has definitely chosen money over artistic integrity. It's a business! Thankfully, we live in a day and age where you can distribute your music independently and still make a living off of it :) Looking forward to listening to your stuff!

  • @japhy6536
    @japhy6536 Месяц назад +1

    Love this...and yes you can make art AND make money - just make sure your music is in service to the masses xxx

    • @dangumbo4835
      @dangumbo4835 Месяц назад

      Good audiences who want art with integrity and who'll stay with you, actively go looking for art that has integrity (these are not the masses). Artists lacking integrity go looking for passive audiences who follow trends (these are the masses). Hence art with integrity tends to rarely appeal to the masses. I think this is what he meant by art and money being like oil and water. It's integrity vs populism. Populism makes money. Integrity unfortunately doesn't.

    Istg you and jeremy zucker inspire me so much that i'm almost at the edge of my chair😭😭...I love it when people make music for telling a story rather than just trying to reach numbers. I hope someday my music will someday be like that!😭🤍
    btw any tips for finishing songs? 😭my process of making music is very moody so when i'm in the right space only then i can make stuff and i personally love some unfinished songs that i wanna complete but i just never get back to them in a fear of ruining them

    • @normalthekid
      @normalthekid  Месяц назад +1

      love is not dying has been probably the most influential project for my ‘normal the kid’ stuff! big fan of jeremy.
      i would say this. do you best to capture as much as you can of the original moment and mood. get as far as you can in the first sitting when you have the idea. film some of the process on your phone even. then to finish it, actually schedule a time on a later date. all the good stuff is already there for you when you come back, it’s just about harnessing that and filling in the holes at that point. i normally keep the creative process and the busywork for separate days so i don’t start to hate the creative part. actually scheduling a time is kinda like treating it as a job or as homework. it’s just something that has to get done.
