【珍鳥】サンカノゴイ Rare birds！Eurasian Bittern

全長70㎝オスメス同色
葦原の中に保護色で潜んでいて発見が困難なため不明な点が多いサンカノゴイです。
私が撮影したサンカノゴイの生息地は葭原でなく水陸両生の植物であるオオバナミズキンバイが広い範囲に覆われところで葉が殆ど枯れてることもあり見通しよく観察できました。
日本野鳥の会が2020～2022年国内での‟繁殖している可能性のあるオス〟の個体数調査を行った結果、たったの17羽だったそうです。
繁殖個体数が非常に少ない湿地・草原性鳥類の1つであると判明
少数は越冬のため大陸から渡ってきますが琵琶湖では10年前から繁殖が確認さてないなど近年の減少してる要因として葭原などの抽水植物が開発や改修により減少していることが挙げられます。
Eurasian Bittern
The Eurasian Bittern is a bird species within the heron family (Ardeidae). It has a total length of 70 centimeters, and both males and females exhibit similar coloration. Due to its cryptic appearance, it often remains hidden in reed beds, making it challenging to observe.
The habitat where I photographed the Eurasian Bitterns was not a reed bed but an area dominated by amphibious plants, particularly the large-flower primrose-willow. The large-flower primrose-willows leaves cover a wide expanse, and their mostly withered state allowed for clear visibility during observation.
According to a survey conducted by the Japan Bird Research Association between 2020 and 2022, there were only 17 male individuals identified as potentially breeding. The Eurasian Bittern is one of the wetland and grassland bird species with an exceptionally low breeding population. While a small number of individuals migrate from the continent for wintering purposes, breeding confirmation around Lake Biwa has been absent for the past decade. Factors contributing to this recent decline include the reduction of aquatic plants like reeds due to development and modifications.

車内からの撮影でしたのでサンカノゴイの警戒心薄れ10mくらいまで近寄ってくることも😀
最近 復刻版野鳥便覧という本を手に入れたんですが サンカノゴイは1938年時点で希少と書かれていました。
10年前から繁殖が確認されていないそうですが 何とかその生息地の環境を守って 絶滅しないようにしてもらいたいです。

サンカノゴイの繁殖に必要な葭原の保全が必須ですね。
撮影地の水草は餌場としてはサンカノゴイの命を支えていますがこの水草はとても繁殖力の強い特定外来種であるため駆除されるかもしれませんね。

This bird lives near my area and since i discovered about it i was trying to know more about it. Its inoressive that he is present in many countries and yet remains almost unknown.
