I remember doing something on him in school about when he came to Scotland and visited Glasgow in 1891-92 Property is beautiful and amazed how much they have saved over time Very good bit of History Rhetty Thankyou
Always fascinating to learn where all he went overseas. That's something I really don't know too much about. I figured they might have had something here or in the museum by his grave but I never saw anything. Thank you for watching and sharing a little more.
What an awesome and historically important place. Big hats-off to Nebraska Parks and Game for preserving and making it available to the public. Great video!
Really enjoyed this one, sir. It's like I was on a little vacation. Countryside is breath taking and I could almost feel the ambiance of being in a house where there's so much history. Thank you ❤️
As I walked the grounds I couldn't help but imagine all of the horses and entertainers roaming the barn and surrounding areas. What a sight that must have been. Thank you for watching Sheila and I'm glad you enjoyed our visit.
Good morning I just love this video that house was awesome and all the land and everything they have there I wouldn't mind living there I appreciate these videos so much with my house the way it is I can't travel but I get to see all these wonderful places through you thank you so much for doing these and sharing I'm sure all your fans enjoy them very much I hope you have a good day stay safe and I'll be waiting for the next wonderful video to come that will take me on another adventure into the past
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this one as much as I did. There is a lot to see here and I really couldn't squeeze it all in. There are tons of artifacts from Bill, his family and fellow performers in cases inside the house. They have done and excellent job preserving the property and his legacy. Thank you for watching Marlene!
This video was Amazing, I loved it 😍 I knew Wild Bill was a huge figure even back in his day but I’m very shocked, I thought he would of lived in a little cabin in the woods. This is a mansion with huge beautiful grounds. He obviously had quite a bit of money. Amazing that all this is still around for everyone to enjoy. There seems to be Wild Bill museums in a few different States. I thought he lived in either North or South Dakota. I’m going to watch this one again later. Just BEAUTIFUL, one of my favourite videos of yours. Thanks Rhett ❤️Jodie 🇦🇺
Wild Bill is different from Buffalo Bill. Wild Bill was q part of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show for a short time but he really didn't care for it. Wild Bill's Grave is in Deadwood, SD and I will have more on him soon. Buffalo Bill worked really hard for what he had. I'll have another video on him tomorrow. Thank you for watching Jodie and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
@@RhettyforHistory oh yes, you are so correct. I just mixed them up with their names, although I am more familiar with Wild Bill Hickok. Now that I had them as one, I shall definitely watch it again later. Very beautiful place, I really enjoyed looking at it. Thanks Rhetty.
That was more than a "little tour" Rhett! That had a massive amount of tack equipment, buggies, photography as well as every piece of utilitarian household paraphernalia necessary for a homestead like that. I am very impressed! I will be sure to donate to your venture to cover the cost of this educational trip. Thank you for taking us along on this story; it was well worth it! ♥️ 👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I really had trouble condensing this video down because there was so much to show. There are a lot of artifacts from performers inside the home in cases. I really enjoyed seeing this home and ranch and I'm glad you did too. Thank you for watching Janet!
What a beautiful place, with rich history to boot. I really love this history! I would have a terrible time going into some of those buildings myself being 6'6. Thanks so much for sharing. I truly loved this one!!!! Great job my friend!♥️💯👍👍👏👏👏🖐🖐🖐🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Yes you are way too tall for many of these and especially that spring house. But this is a great place to stop and see if you ever get the opportunity. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thank you for the tour. My grandmother attended one of Buffalo Bill’s shows. I thought it was interesting that the barn had a cement floor, something I hadn’t expected.
I'm sure they came in later somehow to do that. There is a lot of traffic at this place. That is neat that your grandmother went to one of his shows! Thank you for watching Bill!
Good morning Rhett 🙋🏽. I hope you are having a wonderful morning 🌄😃. Thank you for sharing this with me ‼️🙂 have a great day ‼️👍🏽.I really like some of the furniture in the house ‼️ the house itself is not Bad.😃 . I love this video 📸, interesting and informative. I've always wanted to ride in a covered wagon.
There were certainly a lot of nice antiques in this house not to mention artifacts from Bill, his family and fellow show performers. Thank you for watching and I hope you have a great day as well!
One of my favorite places is the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wyoming. My first visit blew me away, and I've never grown tired if visiting it. If you haven't been there my friend , you must visit. Great video!
@@RhettyforHistory The museum has 4 different buildings , one dedicated to the Pains Indians, One dedicated to guns of the West, One dedicated to Western Art ,the US Calvary, A collection that is out of this world! Some of the art in the collection I helped restore years ago. Oh there is also the Hotel Cody opened, and it's still in operation. I always try and watch all of your videos my friend!
That all definitely sounds right up my alley. I knew he had a history there and some hotels but I didn't realize one was still open. Thank you for telling more about all of that.
@@RhettyforHistory You make it over that way , plan on more than 1 day at the museum, I know you would enjoy it my friend. I think it would be awesome spending time with you at the museum ✔️
He was not only a legend but a living figure from the old west. His Wild West shows were original to him but soon copied by many others. He really was the basis for how things were done in Hollywood too. The state of Nebraska has done a excellent job at maintaining this house and property. Thank you for watching Linda!
I was there in 2018, they charge to enter the house. The home was a Sears Home he made change to the porch, came at 6 feet wide and he wanted a 10 wide porch. My great-grandfather knew him he (my GGFather) was a pioneer to North Platte in 1881. There is camping out back of the ranch. You need to remember there was no good wood for building in Nebraska, wood came down from Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. So like my GGFather they were known as sodbusters. Family name is EDIAS or EDIS.
Thank you Rhett, that was stunning. So beautiful. Loved it. So much to see. Loved you talking to the cow's. Remind me of when i used to talk to my Grandad's cows. A very interesting video. Well done. 😊🐘💝
They are curious creatures and they can make a great audience! Especially if you sing which I won't be doing. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate you watching!
That is so Awesome 😎💯‼️ I love it 😍❣️ we have buffalo ❤️ over by the Sandia Casino in Albuquerque NM where we love to eat they serve Buffalo Steaks and Burgers yummy 🤤🥰‼️ It's on the Reservation ‼️
Hello Rhett just found your channel tonight and subscribed. My mother told me her Grandfather, my Great Grandfather was a good friend of Buffalo Bill's. We tried tracing back the history but didn't get far enough back. She passed on in 2011 but maybe one day I'll give it another go see if I can find that link. This video was incredible and I would love to be able to see his house some day. My Uncle named his German Sheppard Scout, the local Fire Department had a special resting spot for him on the back of the fire truck. Maybe that's how my Uncle came up with the name. Thanks for the tour my friend.
Welcome to the channel and I am glad you are here! I have noticed you watching and commenting on several videos and I really appreciate that. What a neat story on your grandfather. This may be a place where you want to go and check out. There are a lot of photos and artifacts that I could not show just because of time constraints. I am curious to know if you could see a name there or perhaps a photo or item of his. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
@@RhettyforHistory My Great Grandfather was lived in Michigan as did my Great Grandmother and Grandmother on my mothers side. My Grandmother married a young man from Germany and they moved to Canada. I don't believe my Mother even met her Grandfather which makes finding information so much harder. I love your channel my friend, keep up the great work.
Spring houses were built low and partially in the ground because they doubled as storage areas for perishable foods, mostly milk and butter. The water and being under ground level keep the air inside cooler. The item in the Cob House was a corn sheller. Drop the dry corn in, turn the handle, and the kernels came out and the cob was available for fuel and also use in the outdoor "privy". The item with the tub and wash buckets was an apple crush for making cider.
@@RhettyforHistory Thank you for an great video of a wonderfully preserved example of a Nebraska ranch from the late 19th/early 20th century. The connection to Cody was great but it would have been excellent even without that!
Rhett, I enjoyed seeing Buffalo Bill's home and ranch. It's an awesome property, I loved the way you conducted the tour, virtually of course. Loved the grounds, house, barn, trees, loved when you spoke to the cattle, loved seeing the bison family, too. Have a fantastic week. Take care 🐎
This really was a great place to visit so I'm glad you enjoyed it too. There will be more to come on Bill but in a different area of course. Thank you for watching Brenda!
Great video,,I hollered at you the night Thebforgetten went live,,We have to get y'all the RUclips play button,,great videos!!take care,,stay safe,,,,,
I didn't know he had such a big ranch..Love the tour very interesting..some of the tools we had on the farm..that barn was massive. Thank you very much
i wish i had known you were here, would have loved to have met you, i live 1/2 mile from the ranch and my house sits on land land that was once part of the ranch. my abstract shows all the people that once owned parts of the cody ranch. good luck in your ventures and love your videos
Wow! You are really close! Our time here was really short. We spent the night there and got up early to see this. I didn't realize there is so much more to see there in the area. It's neat to hear of your connection to the ranch though. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Thanks, Rhett, for featuring a man who was one of the most fascinating characters of not only the West, but the United States as well. If you haven't been to Lookout Mountain, just west of the Denver metro area, you should see it. The museum there focuses mainly on his Wild West show career. Many original items, many of which are very rare - like posters and flyers when his show came to any city in the world. At one time, he was the most famous American not only here, but abroad as well. Cody, WY is also very interesting. Your tour and narration were very enjoyable. It's been years since I was there, but maybe this summer we'll take a trip to Nebraska to see it! Keep up the great videos. I really enjoy them and always learn something. Take care, my kindred spirit friend of the historic Old West.
I have been to Lookout Mountain and will have a video of that visit coming very soon. I have not been to Cody but it is certainly on the list of placed to go. Sounds like there is a lot to see there. Thank you for watching and commenting!
WOW NOW THAT IS AMAZING!!! Found my next vacation place to visit!!! Wild Bill Cody Show WOW History an beautiful ranch he had!!! The things it could tell us of an era long ago!!! Can't wait to visit it. Thank You Rhett
There really was a lot to see here and much of it I just couldn't show or it really would have been a long video. It is certainly a great place to stop and experience history. Thank you for watching Brenda!
Hey Rhett really love Cody's museum. The house was amazing!! And the barn. Yeah. The spring house was mostly for storing milk, buttermilk, and the cement trough was for water. Amazing ranch. Thank you Rhett.
This really is an incredible place to see. That barn is very impressive but really everything is. They have done and excellent job at preserving the structures and his legacy. Thank you for watching!
That is a beautiful place, never seen a barn like that. It seems like you went during a good time, wasn't crowded. Thanks for the tour. This one is on my todo list.
Nice ,love the old ornaments in the woodwork We use to have a black cast Iron heater at home when I was a kid It was transformed to gas ,but Just like that a bit bigger 😀
This did have a lot of ornate woodwork. Especially on the outside. Everything on the property was very interesting to see and they have done am excellent job preserving it. Thank you for watching!
I really loved seeing this one, I have been to the Buffalo Bill museum up on Lookout Mt. in CO so it was even more interesting to see where he actually lived. This is my favorite kind of museum and I found myself pausing several times so I could take a better look at things. Thank you!!
There are a lot of great items to see in that little museum. I went there not long after my visit to Scout's Rest. I really enjoyed them both. Thank you for watching!
Rhett, I really enjoyed this video as I do all your videos. Thank you so much for all your hard work in bringing us to all the places that we would otherwise never see. Thanks again.
Incredible Rhett. Thank you for giving us an insight to this legendary western figure. We'd never get to view this as we live in Adelaide, South Australia. Thank you again Rhett.
Thank you Rhett I did enjoy this tour a great deal. I'm glad that they managed to preserve the smaller buildings generally just vanished into The ether such as the spring House and the ice House and I bet money even though it's not there that there's a smokehouse or there was a smokehouse somewhere on the property. The barn was really spectacular. I would not be the one who had to fill that hayloft full of hey however. The apparatus you were unsure about what that was that was part of the the grain elevator mechanism. A lot of the tools in the first room you went and you weren't sure about our farriers tools to take care of horses hooves and shoe in them. Really really beautiful to her. Thanks rhett.
I figured it was for shoeing but I didn't want to say that and then people say no it isn't. It looked like a little bit of blacksmith stuff too. That is why I wasn't hesitant. This was certainly a great place to visit and there was way more to see than I could shoe in a little video. It's definitely worth a stop to see this one if you ever get the opportunity to. It would make sense to have a smokehouse on the property somewhere. I definitely had to wonder what it was like when he and all the performers were there. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing this tour of Buffalo Bill's homestead. I'd just watched a couple of RUclips videos that featured old-time audiorecordings of Buffalo Bill himself in 1898. His voice is still ringing in my mind as I'm virtually walking through the home where he lived. History comes to life!!
Excellent tour of Cody's house! Very well done. But, referring to quotes in the beginning of the video, he wasn't just any famous wild west figure. Buffalo Bill Cody, was THE Wild West figure, and the most famous American in the world for many years. Perhaps even more so than Theodore Roosevelt, for a duration. A true larger than life figure that was in the public spotlight from around 1870 all the way through his passing in 1917. And he was in many regards, the father of modern show business. An extraordinary American legend indeed!
You are correct. At the turn of the century he was the most famous American. He was very well known throughout North America and across Europe. His shows influenced many other imitators and most of those people don't know today but most know Buffalo Bill. He really had a unique life all the way around. Thank you for watching!
This was a very interesting video. I really love western history and Buffalo Bill was one of my favorite old west celebrities. The barn was amazing 👏 🐂🐴🐎
Thank you so much for taking us on such an interesting journey. I have MS and unfortunately can't get out as much as I would like. Being able to watch such interesting history is fantastic. I particularly enjoyed viewing the horse stables, my Dad was a blacksmith so seeing the forge brought back many memories. Wishing you all the best. Jan, New Zealand.
Thank you for watching and coming along on the journey. That's really neat your father was a blacksmith. I've always been fascinated with what they can create!
HEY, RgHETTY Hope All It well . Yup, that was A very enjoyable video of the man And his ranch and property there's just so much to see but you did a awesome job at showing what you could In a short video very Interesting and informative so thank you and Maybe one day I'll get to go see It in person OK Take care stay safe God bless and will see you in the next video
I really had trouble condensing this one down to the size it is. There are a lot of artifacts in cases that are in guest and servant bedrooms but if I had shown them then the video probably would have been at least an hour and a half. Thank you for watching and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it.
@@RhettyforHistory HEY, RHETTY Thank you you have always been very nice and answered me Everytime I've commentary On your videos So thank you for taking the time to make me feel Like true friend Take care stay safe and God bless.
WoW, Rhetty.. What a fabulous tour this was! I am so glad you shared this property with us. It's not just beautiful, it's... absolutely STUNNING! Buffalo Bill REALLY like his creature comforts, didn't he?!! Right down to ICE in the summer! His lifestyle was far above what I expected. I don't know if the property was situated in a remote location for the period, but the house itself is exquisitely built with the finest craftsmanship that was possible back in the day - I love the ornate additions such as the mouldings and lattice and scalloped detailing to the exterior cladding on the upper floor etc... and even the outbuildings have decorative finishes both inside and out. It all says a great deal about the man that Buffalo Bill was! Even the cattle are beautiful to look at.. are they Herefords? They're an excellent beef-cattle breed, and they're so pretty...I think they would have eaten a lot better than most Americans of the day? He had everything on site that he could possibly want or need to be totally self-sufficient all year round. The pond and its connection to the Creek would have to have been all dug by hand, but apart from being a pretty addition to the landscaping, it provided a wide variety of benefits - including swimming, boating, fresh water supply, ice, fish, and attracted all those wild animals mentioned for hunting and trapping etc. It would have watered the fruit & vegetables they'd have grown as well as flowers and the beautiful ornamental trees we still see today. He would have raised a wide variety of poultry and other animals for slaughter - and that's self-sufficient luxury at its best. So that was truly quite some lifestyle he built for himself there! Thanks so much for showing it to us, Rhetty.. I thought it was particularly special XX : )
Thank you for watching and commenting Janelle. This would have definitely been in the middle of nowhere when he moved there. Buffalo Bill was a pioneer in many ways and is legendary in the entertainment industry. He certainly created something special with this property and I'm happy the state of Nebraska has decided to maintain this little Scout's Rest. I feel like they have done a fantastic job with doing that and honoring his legacy. I have a question for you. Are you near Melbourne?
@@RhettyforHistory It's absolutely awesome that Nebraska State is continuing to preserve this gem of American history so that people can still see it today (and you can show it to us!!) I am so impressed at how Cody created the kind of ornate home that you would expect to find on a tree-lined street in a very old, very expensive suburb..but that he did it in the middle of nowhere - and then made it a self-sufficient. He certainly liked to enjoy the finer things in life - and his ranch is a credit to him, really. It's beautiful. To answer your question - no, Rhetty... I'm nowhere near Melbourne! Have a look at a map of Oz - Melbourne is in the Sthrn State of Victoria. I'm in the Nthn State of Queensland, and I'm about 3.5 hrs drive Ńth of our State Capital (which is Brisbane), and the nearest city on the map to my little coastal town is called Maryborough. From there if you follow the road East out to the coast you'll see Hervey Bay and that's ne! It's a lovely little tourist town that looks out to Fraser Island (the largest sand island in the world). Hervey Bay is known as "the whale-watching capital of the world", as it's one of the few places in the world where Humpback Whales stop to just play with their newly born calves on their Sthly migration back to Antarctica. In Winter they leave the frozen Antarctica and come all the way Ńth to the protected, warm tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef around the Whitsunday Islands (which are about 1000 kms further Ńth of here, and are also a World-class tourist destination - very beautiful!) where they give birth to their calves which were bred in the same waters the year before. On the return journey, for a 3 month period between early August and late October, thousands of Whales and their new babies stop in the protected waters of my bay between the mainland coast and Fraser Island where they teach their new calves to deep-dive and fish, while they grow stronger on 600 litres of mother's milk every day. Otherwise they mingle with other Humpbacks, socialising and just playing in the warm waters - before the inevitable trip all the way back to Antarctica for the Sthn Summer when plankton and krill are at their most plentiful. There's a fleet of specially equipped Whale-watching boats based here which takes tourists and locals out onto the calm bay waters just to observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat, and most of the boats have underwater viewing windows in the hulls for an amazing view of them. The Whales will swim up to the boats - perhaps they are as curious to look at us as we are to look at them, because they love to watch us too. Then they will start to show off - disappearing under the boats and diving down - and just when we're looking to see where they went to they'll come flying out of the water in a full breech, just feet from the boats. You can see they're laughing! Others will swim on their tails whilst spying on us, or they'll be slapping their pectoral fins on the water. They love to show off their new babies - and they respond to human voices. They are truly magnificent creatures of the deep, and we go out to see them every year. Note that private boats aren't permitted to go near them - and the whale-boat Captains must follow strict rules around them - like turning motors off in the vicinity of the Whales, etc. I just thought you'd like to know what drives my little town - and that's tourism to Fraser Island, and Whale-watching. But Hervey Bay is beginning to expand very rapidly.. I came here 15 yrs ago for it's excellent small-town vibes and community- mindedness..but it's growing so fast - and I don't see all growth and progress as a good thing. But it's still a far better alternative, imho, than city living... No thank you! I wonder if you are asking me about Melbourne because you are considering a holiday to Australia??? Now THAT would be too cool for school, Rhetty!!! In which case, you and your family simply must consider visiting Queensland! At least to our Capital of Brisbane - in which case I'd be delighted to travel down there to meet you all! Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself, LOL - but that would be awesome, as I'd LOVE to meet you and Sarah : ) Australia is a gigantic island continent (it's not that much smaller than the US) and it has so many incredible places to see. I've been settled for a long time now, but I've travelled all over it, all the way around it, and through it several times in a variety of ways - including 4 wonderful years of just travelling around Oz in a Denning Coach that my husband and I had converted into a beautiful d very functional motor-home. After a few years of total freedom we were looking for our special place in the sun to call home and set down our roots - and I can't think of a prettier, friendlier, more community - minded place to live than Hervey Bay - although of course there are thousands of other places just as pretty and as friendly as this. But Qld is my homes-state (I grew up in the Whitsundays) and it's my husband's too, so we wanted to be within a day's drive of our families go we settled between the two. When people visit us from the US they usually tell us that Australia reminds them of the US back in the '50's, LOL. I hope that's true! Of course, our population hasn't hit 25 million yet - and although it's a big island, much of it is desert - in fact, most of our arable land is already farmed, so we aren't really able to accommodate many more people than are already here. Our maximum ability to produce food means that we are restricted to a maximum population of around 30 million. If we ever exceed that number, then we would have to import food to feed them. And I don't doubt that time will come quite quickly - and more is the pity for it. Anyway, I do hope you're considering a visit Downunder - and I wouldn't forgive you coming so far if we didn't get to catch up! That would be incredible - as I feel like I've known you for years! Lots of love, 🇦🇺 Janell XX
That whale adventure sounds incredible to experience. I have never been on one before. It is interesting to hear about them being as curious on humans as we are on them. We don't have a trip planned for Australia. I wish we did but I'm not sure when that would happen. I do have a story on a young man that is from Melbourne and he came to Oklahoma and was murdered. I was hoping that I could get someone to go and film his grave I'm Melbourne. It doesn't look like there is anyone close though. He has a sad and tragic story and I wanted to try and do something to have him remembered here and there.
I really enjoyed this video...It is nice that you took the time to show so much of this place and not just skim through.........................thanks for bringing me along....
You're welcome and thank you for coming along on the adventure. There really is a lot to show on this property and many of the artifacts just couldn't be shown or the video would have been really long. It's certainly a nice place to visit.
Enjoyed this video. My late father was a big fan of Buffalo Bill. I'm surprised her never took us there when I was little He would've loved it. We did go the museum in Cody, WY back around 76.
Such a BEAUTIFUL house and outbuildings!! I love finding out how people lived in the past!! I was just waiting for one of the cows you were talking to to ACTUALLY talk back to you!! LOL!! XXXX
Fabulous video! It’s super great that the house, barn and land have been preserved and not urbanized. I call the spring house nature’s refrigerator! And love the ti. Bathtub in the cob house. It sure is beautiful. I’ve been to the Cody burial sit in CO - the museum there is amazing! I could have stayed longer but the family wanted to move on😄😄. Thanks.
It is a neat little museum and grave to visit. I have a video that I released right after this one where we visit his grave site. Thank you for watching!
I'm from Western TN and the largest tree east of the MS River was about 30 miles from me. It was a cypress and estimated to be 2000 years old when finally toppled a few years ago. I saw it a couple of times and it was 68 feet in circumference at head height. It was hollow and you could drive a buggy inside and turn around while still attached to the horse with ease.
That really wouldn't be to bad of a trip for you. Of course I'm sure you have seen his grave and museum on lookout mountain near where you are. Thank you for watching!
Great video, Rhetty, also wonderful look back in time, I recognize many of the artifacts there in the house and outbuildings. Quite green and lush, too! Thanks for posting this video
It was really green and the whole property was very well maintained. I think they have done a very good job at maintaining Buffalo Bill's legacy. Thank you for watching Bryan!
What's amazing to me is how mobile these early pioneers were! I guess the railroad help alot but horseback and wagon were most common. Wasn't an easy trip in those days from Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming as well as everyplace he did show's. Logistics weren't easy! I've also read about Molly Brown, born in Missouri, moved to Denver, traveled the world and died in NY. They all were definitely explorer's and contributed so much to this country. Both Bill and Molly spent a lot of their money helping the less fortunate.
You need to visit his ranch in Cody Wyoming. And his hotel with the 100 thousand dollar crerry wood bar given to him by the queen of England for a show he put on for her
Wow that is impressive with that bar! I knew about his history there but I definitely need to put this on the list. Thank you for telling me about this.
I grew up in North Platte in the eighties and nineties. We took a lot of school trips to Scouts Rest Ranch. Those were always fun times. I remember they showed us how Native Americans built their Tipis, inside the big barn. It was supported be outside, but it was raining that day.
Really enjoyed this video Rhetty what A wonderful place. Buffalo Bill sure seen alot of places in his life and done alot of traveling. I would like to do that myself someday. I was trying to remember, did you ever do a video on Pawnee Bill? I know that he done Wild West Shows also and was a short time business partner of Buffalo Bill's.
I have not done a video on him but I have been to his grave. I will most likely do one on him this year. He is another interesting one. Thank you for watching!
John Fogerty met and hung out with Buffalo Bill's son, William Cody Jr. Fogerty said he was one wild character and owned a camp in Northern California in the 60s..every chance he got he got he hung out at Cody's camp and the old man told him all the wild west stories. John was so blown away he gave him a shout out in his song Green River...Old Cody Jr took me over
You have a good clear voice. Well done video! When we visited the site, a couple of cops showed up. We were nervous. Did we need to buy a parking permit? But no they were looking for a suspect on foot 😂. Maybe he is still living on the grounds. You better keep a lookout!
This was last summer and we weren't there very long. I felt like we needed more time there because there was a lot more to see in the area than I realized. Thank you for watching!
Buffalo Bill was best friends with my great grandfather John Wesley Hitt. I have copies of local papers that wrote about him coming to see the farm and having shooting matches. He even gifted my GGrandpa with a Winchester? rifle..family members say that after jw died they kept hearing the rifle in the kitchen. One of the boys broke the stock across a tree on that farm.😊Rebecca Hitt Martin
That is interesting to hear of your great grandfather and Bill. It's really too bad one of the boys broke the stock. Did it get repaired and is it still in the family?
@@RhettyforHistory never got repaired so it could be on the grounds of the farm. It’s not in the family anymore, but the owners have said we could come visit. Much of the stuff went to a family member that was adopted into later in life. I tried talking to her but not friendly. I do have many pix of the farm and such. I would love to have found an image of the 2 together. My great grandfather looked like BB. If anyone would want to dig into history, the farm was called seven gables and was in Williams county Ohio..or Bryan,Ohio.
I was there about 40 years ago. Thanks for refreshing my memory.
You're welcome and thank you for watching! This really is a great place to visit!
Yes they have done an excellent job with preserving his property for all of us to see as well as his legacy. Thank you for watching my friend!
So interesting. My grandmother got to see Buffalo Bill when she was a very young child. She remembered it well.

As I walked the grounds I couldn't help but imagine all of the horses and entertainers roaming the barn and surrounding areas. What a sight that must have been. Thank you for watching Sheila and I'm glad you enjoyed our visit.
@@RhettyforHistory It makes me miss my Oklahoma farm life.
This was certainly some luxury living and especially when Bill was living there.
They are easy to mix up for sure. Both were very big figures in the old west.
Wonderful tour. Bringing the past to the present. This is what it is all about.
They have done a wonderful job preserving the history and legacy of Buffalo Bill. Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory you're welcome w👍🏽😃
One of my favorite places is the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody Wyoming. My first visit blew me away, and I've never grown tired if visiting it. If you haven't been there my friend , you must visit. Great video!
I have not ever been to Cody but I would love to go there. Thank you for watching David!
I know Sarah and I both want to see Yellowstone as well as Montana.
Enjoyed. He appears very successful. Quite a layout he has there. Beautiful property indeed. Love the wagons not the hoofs so much lol
He was not only a legend but a living figure from the old west. His Wild West shows were original to him but soon copied by many others. He really was the basis for how things were done in Hollywood too. The state of Nebraska has done a excellent job at maintaining this house and property. Thank you for watching Linda!
@@RhettyforHistory yes they really have even the old cabin with the grass growing roof was stable
It was almost like a mixture of a log cabin and a sod house.
Yeah with no trees I figured the wood had to come from somewhere else. Thank you for watching and telling us q little more.

Beautiful property! Love seeing historic homes. Many lighthouses here in Michigan worth a visit.
That is definitely on our list to visit. I'm not exactly sure when but we really want to go. Thank you for watching!
Thank you for watching and explaining more about what we were all looking at.
@@RhettyforHistory Thank you for an great video of a wonderfully preserved example of a Nebraska ranch from the late 19th/early 20th century. The connection to Cody was great but it would have been excellent even without that!
It really is a great piece of preserved history for us all.
Take care 🐎

He certainly created something special here and I am glad that Nebraska decided to preserve it for us all. Thank you for watching!
Those are always great to watch. Thank you for watching Lila!
Great video thanks for sharing. Thanks from Texas USA
You're welcome and thank you for watching from Texas Nancy!

This really is a great place to visit and it is very picturesque. Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory
It's absolutely awesome that Nebraska State is continuing to preserve this gem of American history so that people can still see it today (and you can show it to us!!) I am so impressed at how Cody created the kind of ornate home that you would expect to find on a tree-lined street in a very old, very expensive suburb..but that he did it in the middle of nowhere - and then made it a self-sufficient.
I came here 15 yrs ago for it's excellent small-town vibes and community-
mindedness..but it's growing so fast - and I don't see all growth and progress as a good thing.
Lots of love, 🇦🇺
Janell XX
That whale adventure sounds incredible to experience. I have never been on one before. It is interesting to hear about them being as curious on humans as we are on them. We don't have a trip planned for Australia. I wish we did but I'm not sure when that would happen. I do have a story on a young man that is from Melbourne and he came to Oklahoma and was murdered. I was hoping that I could get someone to go and film his grave I'm Melbourne. It doesn't look like there is anyone close though. He has a sad and tragic story and I wanted to try and do something to have him remembered here and there.

Thank you Rhetty for this awesome video. Love the way you tell a story. Thanks have a Blessed day
Thank you and I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Such a BEAUTIFUL house and outbuildings!! I love finding out how people lived in the past!!
I was just waiting for one of the cows you were talking to to ACTUALLY talk back to you!! LOL!! XXXX
I figured they might too but they were pretty captivated. I should have tried mooing to see if they would respond. Thank you got watching Nadia!
Wow that is a huge tree and sad to hear it is no longer around. Thank you for watching and telling us about that one.
Definitely beautiful property! We live in Fort Collins Colorado, might be worth the small trip from here 😚 thanks so much for sharing!
That really wouldn't be to bad of a trip for you. Of course I'm sure you have seen his grave and museum on lookout mountain near where you are. Thank you for watching!
I've been here twice, last time in 1995. Great place to visit, so much to see and take in.

Great video. Really enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing Rhetty

Wonderful tour! Thank you!
You're welcome and thank you for watching!
Fun video - I grew up near Golden so I've always had Bill "in my backyard" :-)
You sure do! Thank you for watching!
They were masters at traveling and coordinating everything they needed. Thank you for watching!
Thanks for sharing very enjoyable.
You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching!
Love the opening music and photos!
Thank you for watching and I'm glad you love the intro!
Awesome video ❤❤❤❤
Thank you and I appreciate you watching!
Really enjoyed it. It was awesome.

Beautiful peaceful place
It really is and I really enjoyed our visit here. Thank you for watching Shelby!
I grew up in North Platte in the eighties and nineties. We took a lot of school trips to Scouts Rest Ranch. Those were always fun times. I remember they showed us how Native Americans built their Tipis, inside the big barn. It was supported be outside, but it was raining that day.
Awesome 👍😎 thanks for this 😊💯‼️
You're welcome Josele and I appreciate you watching!
John Fogerty met and hung out with Buffalo Bill's son, William
Cody Jr. Fogerty said he was one wild character and owned a camp in Northern California in the 60s..every chance he got he got he hung out at Cody's camp and the old man told him all the wild west stories. John was so blown away he gave him a shout out in his song Green River...Old Cody Jr took me over
Thank you for watching and sharing a little more with us Brad!
I love this place.. stop in once a year when I go thru..
Oh how cool! It really is a great place to stop and see. Thank you for watching!
You have a good clear voice. Well done video! When we visited the site, a couple of cops showed up. We were nervous. Did we need to buy a parking permit? But no they were looking for a suspect on foot 😂. Maybe he is still living on the grounds. You better keep a lookout!
Thank you for watching and telling us about your experience there. I could see where that would have made you panic about the parking.
What I remember most about that place was the extremely thin staircases.
They are thin and plain too. Thank you for watching!
You might like to check out the Erma Hotel, Buffalo Bill Cody Ranch and His house in Cody, WY.
That is definitely a place I would love to visit. Thank you for telling me about that.
Fabulous tour
Thank you for watching!
Darn wished I would've know I live in North platte could have taken you to lunch or dinner. Oh well maybe next time 🤠
This was last summer and we weren't there very long. I felt like we needed more time there because there was a lot more to see in the area than I realized. Thank you for watching!
Buffalo Bill sweet!
Thank you for watching!
@@RhettyforHistory yes sir thank you for posting !
You're welcome
That's too bad on the rifle. It really would made an incredible item to have and a great conversation piece.
