1:06:50 Here Delson does an incredibly beautiful job elaborating what Anatta means. I'm by no means a Buddhist scholar, or even really a Buddhist, but have been fascinated by this area for years. Many people throw around the word Anatta and I have NEVER heard it explained like this.
That is to say that what Delson describes here is the notion that Anatta is implying "that which is not the self" and not explicitly "no self" or "without self" as I have always heard. This seems almost like a subtle difference, but to me carries enormous implications.
It implies that we are not striving to get rid of a self, or see that "self" does not exist, but that we are looking to see what is always already here in mind (and beyond mind in the case of Nibbana) and how it doesn't imply selfhood or self-ing. If I understand correctly then would be a critical illustration of what is implied by the core understanding of delusion in Buddhism.
I hope I'm conveying this correctly, but the frame shift for me has been enormously refreshing.

John - right on! Its a great part of his talk. I might create a short with this subject. Its interesting to not that the word "atta" just means essence. Is THAT even a self? Maybe its just the essence of the personality. Interesting to discuss. Thank you!

The word Samma (සං+මා , sighala script, Magadhi sound) has much deep and wider, specific meaning in Damma.
