Yeah I agree because they actually look good in robot mode and transformed mode, the toys look roughly like cars and nothing from car mode is used in robot mode
I can see skimmer swiftly flying through the ranks of decepticons, chopping them up one after another. I can see widow as the most agile on foot, flexibility, silently, and painlessly decapitating anyone in her way. I can see Mantid’s armored two capes (coming from the mantis head all the way down to his knees) helping him with combat as he calmly but ever so strongly snipes enemies afar and flipping out integrated elbow scimitars as well as his deadly sickle for melee combat. Overall a phenomenal combination.

As a bug guy, thorax should be replaced with abdomen, but that's a pretty common mix up. His mantis neck is actually the thorax, but more specifically the prothorax. Also I understand the exclusion of wings, but most male mantids are actually pretty decent at flight and usually have very impressive wing membranes.

Since he is supposed to be the weapons specialist, one would think that his Trimmer would have been customized to help him in multiple scenarios. The firing modes follow as such. 1. Trimmer mode: The primary fire mode and the mode Skimmer has his gun in for most of the time. It pretty much is a laser minigun, great for taking out crowds of enemies. 2. Burst cannon mode: This mode is basically a flak cannon. The shots from this mode airburst, making it great for clearing the skies. 3. Photon beam mode: In this mod the Trimmer fires two beams in an over-under configuration. This mode is mainly used for wearing away through heavily-armoured foes.
I have an origin story for them they are insecticons that were angry for how the decepticons were treating them and so they ran away and were found by Optimus prime and he recruited them to become his autobot squat team

Wow, this guy is awesome! The transformation is really original and both modes look great. I really like the way that the dark grey ball joints on the sides of his chest flow along with the side panels on his legs, almost creating a trench coat kind of look. Wait, with the elbow blades and the cape/coat, he remind me of Mega Gallade! Anyway, a great build, and well done on your part :)
Awesome! He deserve to be the leader of the team. The transformation is interesting. The mantis mode is cool, and certainly looks better than a certain mantis from beast wars series. The robot mode looks badass, i like how the mantis arm becomes an elbow blade on the robot mode. About those "leftover" mantis legs on robot mode, i wonder how he would looks if those are folded to the back.
Ezra Wibowo I actually tried that with the mantis legs and he ended up looking like he had a ridiculously oversized turtle shell on his back. its too bad because I really would have liked for them to fold away more cleanly.
The thing you call a wast cape i like to think of it as some extra arms incase of climbing upsidedown or vertical spaces but they would only be for climbing and the extra armor if needed

I honestly feel that if the SWAT team were official canon transformers, Widow and Mantid would have a intense romantic relationship. I also imagine Widow having a personality that would be a combination of Airachnid and Miko from TF: Prime.
+SCP-049 The Plauge Doctor I know I am a little late but I would see Mantid as a serious commando that puts his duties first and his personal life after and I would See Widow as a independent woman that takes care of herself but if they did have a romantic relation it would be dysfunctional and would take time for the two to get in a truly loving relationship. This is just speculation and my personal opinion you may do what you see fit.
Eric Rumery I would see Skimmer as someone who would not take life to seriously he would do his job but not make the best decisions. Skimmer would be a jealous "Third Wheel" of the group Skimmer would believe if Widow knew how he felt it would be a stable relationship. I think he would feel slight resentment toward Mantid because of his role of authority and his dysfunctional relationship with Widow.
jazz tip 101: if you attach a 1x2 plate or a 2x2 plate and put 1,2,3, or four tiles his mantis head could be split with force to transform yet still be solid. I make transformers myself and I'm 12, it's fun.
I think a good melee weapon for mantid would be those things sticking out of his arms in the back. They could slide onto his wrist kind of like dino and he could use them.
