  • Line U6 is the oldest U-Bahn line of the Munich's metro network and also features the oldest tunnel built: the section below the Lindwurmstraße (between Sendlinger Tor and including the station Goetheplatz, built in the late 1930s). This line also has a significant outdoor running portion, the only one on Munich's network. The line operates a mix of all four types of Munich's rolling stock, including the iconic Type A and Type B cars. Enjoy!

    I am from Munich, and I like the older trains so much better! Type B is my favourite!
    Using the U6 was so fun during the EURO games, it was just full of fans :D

      @@DJHammersTrains Of course! But the As are also amazing, especially when accelerating with open windows, the engine sounds fucking amazing! Very close to the B.

    In the summers of 1997 and 1998, I lived in Munich, and almost every day, I would ride the U-Bahn between home and work, otherwise I would take the S-Bahn or bus. At the time, there were only the type A and B in service. Only since August 2003 did I ride the Type C U Bahn cars.
    For those who have ever seen Percy Adlon's 1985 film "Sugarbaby", particularly on the U6, the Type A cars were shown, and the actual U6 line was shown in several scenes, between Sendlinger Tor and Freimann.
    Last year, I went on the U6 as far as Garching-Forschungszentrum, and I was able to tell, where the former terminus was at Garching-Hochbruck. The latter station had been the terminus as far back as June 1998.
    I plan to return to Munich next year, just for a few days. I believe that the type A trains will still be running by then.

      If you want to use the old trains, use the U4 line (my 'home'-line), because there are only short trains operating and therefore only old trains are going there (that's why I love using this line so much!). Only during Oktoberfest, the new trains operate there.

    I absolutely love the design of the A type rolling stock. They remind me of the 115 series of the Japan national Railways belonging to a similar era. I wish I can travel to see with my own eyes somedays.

    The thumbnail photo proves that the design of that particular batch of train is of a terrible design; London Underground trains that were built during the 1930's were of a better design than virtually every other European underground train built during the 20th century.

    • @Mr.A-Wagen
      @Mr.A-Wagen 2 месяца назад +21

      Oh please, the London Underground or should I say every train in the UK has a horrible design. The design of the Type A is really common in Central European Metro systems from the 70s. I think it is beautiful but everyone has a different kind of taste

    • @PSYCHIC_PSYCHO
      @PSYCHIC_PSYCHO 2 месяца назад +3

      @@Mr.A-Wagen Horrible design?; with your liking of the Type A train design it is blatantly obvious that you have no knowledge of what makes great design, let alone having a background in Industrial-Design. With the exception of London Underground trains, all other metro trains of rest of Europe are EXTREMELY linear with flat roofs; whereas London Underground trains have beautiful curves most important of which is the curved roofs, even our Underground trains from the 1930's looked more modern than other European metro trains that were built 50 years later, and this fact has been expressed by someone who has a a qualification in Industrial-Design.
